Episode 237: Songs Under The Microscope, Vol. 31: "You Know My Name (Look Up The Number)"

In this episode, we talk about one of the songs featured on the Beatles' penultimate single as the B-side of "Let it Be" : "You Know My Name (Look Up The Number)." Known as one of the group's quirkiest tunes, we talk about the production that took place over two different years, the music that works like a theme and variations, the ska section that was excised from the final version, and of course all the silly voices and sounds on the song. Oh, and a member of the Rolling Stones who played the sax solo too. Give it another listen if you haven't heard it in a while! We also talk about some recent Beatles news including the upcoming Capitol mono vinyl set, the Living in the Material World deluxe set, and more. Enjoy! Episode 236: Our Guide to The Beatles, "Live at the BBC," Vol. 1 (1994)

The Beatles: Live at the BBC was released in 1994. The album contained 50+ tracks from some of the 50+ programs the Beatles played on for the BBC during 1962-65. The album was a big hit, selling over 8 million copies, and it was a particular favorite for Dave and Chris who waited in line at a Best Buy in Champaign-Urbana, IL to buy it and get a free poster! We talk about the album, choose our top 10 songs from the album, choose some of the songs that didn't work very well (usually because of the sound quality), and much more. If you haven't pulled out the album in years, now would be a great time to do so! It was also remastered in 2013, so you could get that version as well. Feel free to email or record a message to [email protected] and we'll include you in our "Please Mr. Postman" segment. Also, please rate us wherever you listen to your podcasts. Episode 213: Making a Beatles 1973 ”Reunion” album!

What would've happened if the Beatles reunited to make an album in 1973 based on the four albums recorded that year? We draw from Mind Games, Band on the Run, Living in the Material World, and Ringo to compile a 12-track album that we think would be even better if all four Beatles played and contributed to the songs. Chris and Dave both had different approaches to their album construction, but they both work well as listens. If only that had happened... Dave's album: Band on the Run, Jet, Photograph, Out The Blue, Don't Let Me Wait Too Long, I'm The Greatest, Give Me Love (Give Me Peace on Earth), Mind Games, Bluebird, Bring on the Lucie (Freeda People), Who Can See It, and 1985. Chris's album: I'm the Greatest, Band on the Run, Sue You Sue Me Blues, Mind Games, Photograph, Let Me Roll It, One Day at a Time, Give Me Love, Bluebird, Be Here Now, I Know I Know, 1985 Enjoy! Episode 203: Put Them In The Movies, ”How I Won The War”

Many people know about Richard Lester's 1967 movie How I Won The War that starred Michael Crawford (the future "Phantom of the Opera") and John Lennon, but most haven't seen it. It's most famous because of Lennon, of course. But Dave and Chris have now seen it and share their review of the movie. Is it worth seeing? How is John Lennon as an actor? Why is the movie so hard to find? (maybe there's a good reason?) How does it hold up today? Let us know what you think! If you want to watch the movie, you can do so here: https://archive.org/details/3_20191230/5.m4v An interesting review by movie critic Roger Ebert: How I Won the War movie review (1968) - Roger Eberthttps://www.rogerebert.com › reviews › how-i-won-the...   Complete episodes can be found at https://ivegotabeatlespodcast.podbean.com. Episode 199: Songs under the Microscope, Vol. 25- ”Any Road” by George Harrison...plus an Epic Rant!

In this episode, we go back into the lab and dissect George Harrison's song, "Any Road" from his posthumous 2002 album Brainwashed. How does the song stack up in George's catalog, what's interesting about the music and lyrics, and can Chris find any covers of note? Following our discussion of "Any Road," Chris launches into an epic rant about the latest McCartney release (the McCartney I,II, III box set) and why the McCartney camp doesn't seem to be listening to what fans actually want. Episode 197: The 1975 John Lennon Compilation ”Shaved Fish”

In Episode 90 ("Compilation Compilation") we discussed all the different compilations for each Beatle, including all the John Lennon collections up until 2016 (we didn't have Gimme Some Truth yet). We mentioned 1975's Shaved Fish, but didn't give it much thought since it left out all of John's later music. This episode digs deep into the only "greatest hits" album released in Lennon's lifetime. How did John do choosing his best-of?   Complete episodes can be found at https://ivegotabeatlespodcast.podbean.com. Episode 196: A Hypothetical 1967 Beatles Set List!

In this episode, Dave and Chris challenged themselves to come up with a hypothetical early 1967 setlist of songs from albums (or unreleased tunes) that the Beatles never performed live on their tours from 1963-66. We selected some tunes from the familiar to the obscure, and put together a list of fun songs we wish the Beatles had played. What do you think? What songs do you wish they'd played? We also weigh in on the "Got Back" setlist and Paul McCartney touring today. Complete episodes can be found at https://ivegotabeatlespodcast.podbean.com. Episode 195: Review of ”Wings At The Speed of Sound!”

We go back to 1976 for a review of Wings At The Speed of Sound, the album that propelled Wings's 1976 tour across America. This was intended to be a democratic effort where each member of the group sang a lead vocal, and it was supported by two big hit songs, "Let 'Em In" and "Silly Love Songs." How does the album hold up now? Check out the episode to hear our thoughts.   Complete episodes can be found at https://ivegotabeatlespodcast.podbean.com. Let's go back to 1965 and the release of The Baroque Beatles Book, "arrangements" by composer/musicologist/performer Joshua Rifkin, casting music by the Beatles in the styles of J.S. Bach and G.F. Handel. Sounds like a bad idea, right? Quite the contrary, the album was very popular and even hit the charts for a time.
