Students forgetwhy they are in college – to get a job. There is no need to take advanced coursesin your first two years or double major if there is no need. You don't havetime to be spending on problem sets as a computer science major if you know youwant to work in Investment Banking. If you are at a Non-Target (e.g., countycollege or another random state school), you need to maintain a high G.P.A.,prep for technical interviews, be involved on campus, and spend time buildingyour network. That is all you should be doing. . Third, getstarted on your Reaching Out Initiative (R.O.I.) by building out a list of professionalsyou want to reach out to, firms you are interested in, and make sure yournarrative & story is perfected. . Fourth, this isthe step that never stops. Ongoing preparation for technical and behavioral questions,conducting 1:1's / informational interviews, and successfully navigatingthrough actual interviews. . Further, can youleverage excel as a tool to complete an analysis (whatever it might be, e.g., accretion/dilution,LBO, DCF, forecasting analysis, etc.) &nbsp;Soft Skill Set meansthe following (again, to me): can you take a blank PowerPoint and use it toconvey a story to a buyer or seller to speak to why the transaction orinvestment is worthwhile, i.e., should we buy or sell or raise capital ordivest an asset, etc. .3. All of that is just noise. Students need actual, tangible advice that they can follow to land interviews and secure offers.
