Tariq Nasheed Talks New Movie "Microphone Check", Hidden Colors, FBA, Reparations, DJ Vlad, And The P Diddy Scandal.

Tariq Nasheed is known online for his controversial commentary on race. He is a proponent of "Foundational Black Americans" (FBA), an ideology and movement he founded, which is defined as, "any person classified as Black, who can trace their bloodline lineage back to the American system of slavery. To be designated as an FBA, at least one parent must come from a non-immigrant background in The United States of America." Nasheed believes FBAs must "seek out reparations for their own" and that American-born descendants of the American Slave Trade have not adequately sought out resources for themselves. Nasheed is known for his use of the term "bed wench" and the related term "Negro bed wench mentality". He uses the term to refer to black women who date interracially. He revived and popularized use of this term, which historically was used to disparage black women who were raped by their masters during slavery. Ebony Magazine described Nasheed's conception of the term "bed wench" as a put-down of successful black women who challenge the institutions of black patriarchy. Nasheed also uses the term "buck breaking" to refer to the sexual abuse of Black men, particularly in the context of slavery, via a documentary of the same name, which MEL Magazine described as containing "uncooked nonsense" and being largely inaccurate.[2 Learn more about your ad choices. Dave Weiner: Part 2- Dave Weiner Talks Signing Brotha Lynch Hung To Strange Music And Issues With Black Market Records.

Dave Weiner’s quiet power has helped to form hip-hop history as we know it. He has set the pace for independent success from behind-the-scenes. The Los Angeles native turned an entry level job in the mailroom of Priority Records into an explosion of rap music history. As he grew into West Coast Sales Representative, he presented the concept of the distributed label to Priority—signing a label as the company would an artist. The distributed label blueprint was the first of its kind with the 1996 signing of Master P’s No Limit Records. From 1997 until 1999, Dave’s distribution deals were duplicated and revenue from these partnerships skyrocketed to over 300 million dollars. He went on to head Interscope-distributed JCOR Records and consulted for various labels before becoming Vice President of Strange Music in 2009. There, he and his team led the company to becoming “the most successful independent rap record label in the industry” with multiple RIAA certifications and Top Five debuts on the Billboard Top 200 completely outside of the system. During this time, Tech N9ne released 19 albums that all charted Top 10 on the Billboard Top Albums chart, giving him the title of “most Top 10 albums on the rap chart in history.” Once again, Dave was at the forefront of developing a groundbreaking industry prototype which would soon be known worldwide as Strange Music. This model would be emulated by independent labels globally. Even 31 years into his career, it still feels like the beginning for Dave. “It comes back to hard work and hustle,” he leaves off. “I’m honored to work with artists who remain true to their vision without compromise. That’s what inspires me every day.” Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Rhythm D Talks Producing Real Compton City G'z For Eazy E, Jerry Heller, And The Movie Straight Outta Compton. Part 2

David Weldon grew up in South Central Los Angeles. As he was coming of age as a hip-hop producer in the early '90s, he got caught up in a feud between the two biggest West Coast rap names of the time: Eazy-E and Dr. Dre. The pair had great success together with N.W.A, bringing gangsta rap to the masses, but Dre left the group over a financial dispute and allied with former bodyguard Suge Knight, as part of the upstart label Death Row Records. Weldon, who goes by Rhythm D, was initially aligned with Death Row, and left not long before the release of Dre's legendary 1992 album The Chronic, complete with its eviscerating Eazy-E disses on "Fuck Wit Dre Day." "You fucked with me, now it's a must that I fuck with you." Weldon instead joined the camp of Eazy's Ruthless Records, stepping into Dre's role as the label's in-house producer. Weldon's most memorable production to come out of this era, Eazy's "Real Compton City G's," was a response to "Fuck Wit Dre Day," and was equally raw: "Watch the sniper, time to pay the piper," Eazy rapped, as well as mocking Dre for the feminine outfits he'd worn in his previous group, World Class Wreckin' Cru. Weldon went to great lengths to convince Eazy that the G-funk sound on "Real Compton City G's" set the appropriate tone. That the song was a hit — and helped Eazy get the last word in the famous battle — owed much to its sinister beat. Rhythm D's star was in orbit. But his newfound notoriety came at a cost: Those involved with the Ruthless/Death Row dispute had reason to be scared for their lives, and Weldon was watched over by a bodyguard named Big Animal. "I couldn't go nowhere," Weldon says. "It was a real beef." Indeed, such beef would take the lives of Tupac Shakur and Biggie Smalls, and by the early 2000s Weldon had had enough. The Southern rap sound was ascendant, and he began making frequent trips to Atlanta. "Our music was caught up in gangsta rap instead of making people dance and have a good time," Weldon says. "The business was flourishing out here more than anywhere else. Instead of being mad at the South I came down here." Working with rapper Bonecrusher and shown the city's ropes by V103's DJ Nabs, he became increasingly enchanted with Atlanta. "People here are a little more warm, with the Southern hospitality," he says. Following the death of his sister from cancer, he quietly moved down here permanently in 2010, and now resides near where Atlanta meets Cobb County, off of Marietta Street. Not a lot of Atlantans realize they have a '90s production legend in their midst; Weldon also crafted the classic Paperboy track "Ditty," and helped Bone Thugs-n-Harmony define their sound on their first album. Bigg Jah talks creating Balvin Bunningham,Tiberius, LA Comedy Politics, being a successful content creator, and working with Tyler Perry.

Jahdai Pickett promises exactly one thing when you tune in to his YouTube content: “hood good comedy.”Better known by his channel name Bigg Jah, the Los Angeles-based actor, writer, director, and comedian (and YouTuber, of course) has been turning his stand-up skills into millions-viewed sketches since 2017.Like many comedians, Pickett gets his gold material by sourcing stories from real life and embellishing for entertainment as needed. His individual videos tend to clock in between five and ten minutes, and while each tells a complete story, he’s grown his dedicated audience by turning fan-favorite sketches into series.Arguably the top fare on his channel is The Lesbian Homie, a recently concluded ten-episode series that chronicles a fictional Pickett’s comical suffering when, for the first time, he sees his one-of-the-bros lesbian friend glammed up to go out. Collectively, it’s racked up nearly 40 million views.Latter episodes of the series feature Pickett’s clever brand-building in the form of merch from his Hood Good Store, which offers T-shirts, hoodies, headwear, and more emblazoned with slogans from his videos that became popular with fans–like the “got yams?” shirt referencing aforementioned lesbian friend’s bodacious posterior. With Lesbian Homie wrapped and one million subscribers in the bag, Pickett is looking at a future with content that’s less Quibi, more Netflix. His fans have been asking for longer videos since the beginning, he says, and he plans to deliver.

Mob James talks childhood, growing up with Suge Knight and Reggie Wright Jr, Bountry, FG, Alex Alonso, Death Row Records, and redemption.

In the early ’90s, Death Row Records had a roster that could compete with any label’s top talent, and CEO Suge Knight earned a reputation as one of the most feared men in the industry. James McDonald, then known as Mob James, was the instrument of Knight’s intimidation. McDonald served as Death Row’s muscle and Suge’s go-to-guy for years.Knight and McDonald used “any means necessary” to get their point across to the label’s opponents. That was then and this is now. McDonald wields a starkly different kind of influence today. Through his podcast, “The Gangster Chronicles,” he draws on his experience and wisdom to steer vulnerable young men away from gangs and street life. Knowing how deeply he was affected by the absence of his biological father, McDonald strives to be a positive male role model in the lives of young men; he feels that if he can just help one individual, then his efforts have not been in vain. The podcast has a bright future: It was picked up by the Black Effect Podcast Network, a joint venture of Charlamagne Tha God and iHeartMedia to amplify black voices.
