when life gets hard, remain soft.
life has been throwing me so many hurdles this year in general but more specifically the past couple of months. through these challenges, i noticed myself becoming numb, lacking empathy and kindness to myself + even to others. as well as being defensive and expecting the worse. while this perspective and practice slowly and discreetly became habitual, my body + nervous system noticed the shift in energy— low energy, pessimistic and just an overall lack of recognition in self. so, i decided it was time for a change. i literally remember saying to myself— i can't live like this anymore.
without knowing exactly how but sure that i would shift my energy to an elevated state where it was once before, i began to be more intentional with my thoughts, energy and time (implementing more journaling, meditation, movement + solitude). the other day during a journaling sesh, the following words were written so effortlessly: when life gets hard, remain soft. remain human. remain sensitive. remain kind. remain creative. remain open-hearted. remain optimistic. remain empathetic.
the answers i didn't even realize i was searching for came to me... just like that. ever since this moment, i've been making it a priority to practice softness. sensitivity. kindness. creativity. and optimism. this practice (like any) takes time but i have to admit, i feel so much lighter + so much more connected to source energy. my hope is that if you're feeling out of alignment with spirit + with self, this message will allow you to feel more connected to divine as well.

there’s a fine line between crashing out (losing the essence of your aura) and standing on business (taking up for yourself). to help myself distinguish the two, i stop and notice how i feel afterwards. do i feel depleted? out of body? or do i feel relieved? better than i did before hand? was it worth it? sometimes the answer is yes. sometimes the answer is no. but i always find my way back to my natural state of being. and that’s what matters.

emotional awareness is the ability make sense of not just your own emotions but also those of others. being emotional has carried a lot of negative connotation in society. so this has made it difficult for us to lean into and embrace our emotions to self let alone express them to others. as human beings, we were meant to feel- not suppress our emotions + radiate only happiness 24/7. when we don't allow ourselves to feel, not only are we hiding from our true selves but these feelings tend to fester and manifest into things that evoke self-sabotaging behavior. it is okay + very necessary to be emotional. feeling is an innate part of the human express. using your emotions as introspection + digging deeper to uncover parts of you that have been hidden for so long is the best thing that can be done for self but also for the world. tap in to you. and watch the evolution that is you unfold.

the arrival fallacy.
the arrival fallacy refers to the belief that attaining a particular goal will lead to long-term happiness. in other words- when i (fill in the blank), i will be happy. when happiness is placed on a goal or tangible outcome outside of self, then we have unconsciously wired our brain to believe that happiness is not in the present moment. while the arrival fallacy isn't something to overcome overnight, actively searching for the root cause of the need to fill a void with things, people, and places outside of self is a great place to start. within this journey, you'll understand that happiness, peace, joy, and love exists inside of you. it's not in this far away space in the future. you are whole now. you are worthy now. you are enough now. so, search no further.

i cared too much most of my life. this caused me to lose a sense of self + quite naturally, live a life crafted and determined by others. at age 18 is when i unconsciously decided to live life on my own terms + get closer to being my most authentic self. however, there were a few bumps in the road on this journey. my actions, interests and appearance were questioned- creating a battle within making me questions myself. i found myself conforming + performing to be liked and understood, losing bits and pieces of myself in the process. the past few years is when it really began to be unbearable. the pressure of living for others interfered with the pleasure of living at all. a life isn't well lived if it isn't lived for you + on your own terms. the burden of conformity forced me to an unstable space. and for that, i am grateful. every f*ck that i ever gave vanished into thin air. who will i be if I can't be me?

what you focus on expands.
the power of our attention and focus is something that often goes unnoticed. so many of us are unconsciously manifesting the very thing we say we don't want by lending our attention to it. what we focus on magnifies in various ways. as humans, our brains are wired to find the familiar. and with that familiarity, we unconsciously replay a certain narrative within our inner worlds over and over again. by doing so, we allow ourselves to believe that narrative is truth. then we unconsciously take certain actions to make the narrative truth- expanding the focus into our physical reality. in another instance, when we focus on something (whether we want it or not), we are sending a signal to the universe that we are energetically aligned with the thing that we are focused on. hence, magnifying our focus and attention. for many of us, we have unconsciously lended our focus to a multitude of energies that didn't serve us on all levels. when you intentionally allow your focus to expand to higher energy fields, not only will your inner world align with that energy but your physical reality will very much be in alignment as well.

the culture of consumption.
today's conversation was inspired by an article i read titled, are we losing ourselves in the pursuit of wellness by HURS official. this article got me thinking about how wellness (among other things) has shifted to this consumption first culture allowing us to lose sight of what it actually means to be well. it also doesn't help that the lives of others is so accessible to us. we're exposed to tons of routines on social media (that only reveal highlight reels of those sharing) and without discernment on these apps, we start to believe that we need to do more and be more + we make impulsive decisions to temporarily fill a void. there is nothing outside of ourselves that can determine our worth. we are worthy just be existing. wellness is as simple as harnessing the power of your breath or remembering that movement seamlessly releases unwanted energy. wellness begins within. wellness is about remembering who you truly are. and when you know who you are, it is so much easier to avoid becoming an active member of the culture of consumption.

the fear of being seen.
the fear of being seen has so many layers to it: 1) the fear of being seen by one's self, 2) the fear of being seen within (both romantic + platonic) relationships, 3) and the fear of being seen by society. this fear of being seen could exist for a multitude of reasons— from being hurt in the past when being vulnerable to caring way too much about the opinions of others. either way, when you truly see yourself without all of the labels, opinions, + domestications placed upon you by society, it is easier to be vulnerable enough to be seen in relationships as well as be seen by society in a creative aspect. believe it or not, fear is good. it's a sign that you are doing the things that you need to do to get to the life that you desire. as cheesy as it sounds, feel the fear and do it anyway. people are going to talk if you're chasing your dreams + people are going to talk if you do absolutely nothing at all. you might as well do wtf you want to do.

stillness in the mental sense, the spiritual sense is something i used to run from but now find myself craving- not only for answers but also to continue to get to know the ever-changing being that is me. only through stillness will we find the answers to the questions we ask ourselves both consciously and unconsciously. the solution to the recurring themes that always seem to appear. although the world seems to be as chaotic as it’s ever been, our mind does not have to reflect it. with a still mind, we create inner peace. inner peace within creates space for world peace. in this episode, we discuss stillness, entering a state of flow, and how to cultivate stillness via movement + everyday life.

the side effects of perfectionism + how to overcome it.
perfectionism is something that i struggled with for a while. for the longest, i masked this truth with being super passionate or wanting only the best. and a whole lot of other things i would tell myself. while being the best version of myself is what i'll always strive for, aiming for "perfection" never really did serve me. i was so focused on perfection that it ignited so many negative behaviors within my life. negative self-talk. simply not showing up at all. adopting a lack mindset. the list goes on and on and on. perfectionism can be a challenging thing to escape but if i did it (and still currently doing so), so can you. in this episode, i share some of the side effects of perfectionism that i noticed within myself as well as some habits i incorporated into my life to escape the toxic energy that is perfectionism.

before i began my podcast journey, YouTube was a huge creative outlet for me. somewhere along this journey, i decided to take a step back because of some things that was happening in my life and i truly just needed to. that was about six months ago. during this time, i lived, learned, rested, and got to know myself a little better without a camera in my face. i finally feel ready, inspired, and excited even to return back to YouTube. needless to say, this episode was inspired by my recent return to YouTube. before i took my break, i spent a lot of time in my head— second guessing myself, not feeling good enough, and so many other low vibrational feelings. through introspection and self-actualizing, i've learned that the only thing i need to do is show up. honestly and authentically. i am the blueprint. as long as i continue to look inward and refer to the blueprint that is me, everything will fall into place and flow as it should. and that is my message to you today. you are the blueprint. show up. honestly. authentically. in whatever it is that you do and/or desire to do. don't second guess your light. you are enough. as you are. trust your dopeness + magical things will start to happen for you.

the law of least effort.
if you've been here for a while or know me personally, you have definitely heard me talk about the seven spiritual laws of success by deepak chopra. i read this book about four or five years ago when i needed it the most and it completely transformed my perspective on life. the seven spiritual laws taught me so much about myself and debunked so many of the myths i was conditioned to believe about success, abundance, and so much more. i still reference it and practice every single law since i've learned about it. while every law in this book contains utter importance, today we were called to talk about the law of least effort— which simply means to accept, surrender and release. do the work. spiritually. physically. mentally. because the work must be done. but do it without force. and understand that everything will work out for you because the universe makes no mistakes.
in today's episode we covered:
acceptance: accepting people, situations, circumstances and events as they occur. everything is as it should be. the universe never misses. even when it feels like she missed. she didn’t. everything that you have experienced in the past led up to this exact moment. this moment is as it is because the entire universe is as it is. once you’ve accepted things as they are, you are ready to take responsibility for your situation and all the events you see as problems.
responsibility: when you have accepted this circumstance, event or problem, responsibility then means the ability to have a creative response to the situation as it is now. all problems are rooted in opportunity and this allows you to take the moment and transform it into something unfathomable. there is a hidden meaning in everything you experience and this hidden meaning is serving your evolution. surrender the fight and see the opportunity.
defenselessness: you’ve relinquished the need to convince or persuade others of your point of view. once you’ve relinquished the need to persuade others of your point of view, you will gain access to so much energy that had been previously wasted. when you become defensive, blame others, and do not accept and surrender to the moment, your life meets resistance. any time you encounter resistance, recognize that if you force the situation, resistance will only increase. release.

you may have heard me mention the phrase limiting beliefs quite a few times here but i've never discussed in depth exactly what it is. simply put, a limiting belief is a state of mind that you believe is absolute truth. these beliefs keep us in our comfort zone and hold us back from becoming the truest versions of ourselves. a limiting belief isn't always necessarily about yourself. it could be about how the world works, certain ideologies, relationships, etc. these beliefs in a sense act as a defense mechanism to protect us from pain that our subconscious mind remembers from past negative experiences. so many of us are living in an illusion based on someone else's beliefs. this is because most limiting beliefs derive from our parents' values and beliefs as well as lived experiences (ie. beliefs that are not our own). it is essential to grow and understand that although your subconscious mind (your inner child) is trying to protect you by believing in these limiting beliefs, it is not necessary and is actually hindering your evolution, stopping you from reaching your full potential. healing your inner child, unlearning, and crafting a new belief system that will challenge your old limiting beliefs and allow you to take risks is a step in the right direction for overcoming old ways of thinking, living, and believing.

how to be human. this phrase really spoke to me. after reading an article along with the book, tuesdays with morrie a few months ago, i immediately knew that “how to be human” was something that i would one day explore and discuss on this platform.

running away from myself is the easiest thing i've ever done.
it's been awhile since we had a solo episode but my mom's recent visit brought up a lot of emotions, feelings and reflections. in the midst of me hashing out my feelings, i realized that for a large part of my life, i invalidated my feelings and suppressed a lot of my emotions. this led me to running away from myself, not being able to confront my feelings or why i was even feeling them in the first place. running away from myself was the easy part. working through trauma and built-up emotions is the hard part. but as i did (and am still doing) the inner working + healing from childhood trauma, it does get easier. the air is a bit more breathable. the weight gets lighter and lighter everyday. in current times, i find myself in a space that i've never been in before. finally embracing the uncomfortable. finally at a space where the discomfort of the unknown outweighs the comfort of my safety net. open and ready to evolve + receive all good things that the unknown has to offer. had i not stopped running from myself, i don't know if i would have ever arrived at this space. if you're currently in a race to outrun yourself, this is your sign to finally cross the finish line and embrace all versions of you (past, current, + future) with open arms.

balance your ambition. a phrase that i recently heard that will stick with me forever. in the fast paced world that we live in, it seems as if everyone is... well, busy. and if you're busy, you're getting things done. you're making moves. you're bossed up. but... you're wrong. so often in my life, i've tried to juggle so many different goals and ambitions all at once and i found myself doing everything and nothing at all. i was caught in the illusion that i was getting so much done but in reality, i was getting nowhere. thankfully, i learned so much from this experience. i now understand the importance of simplicity, micro shifts and compound interest. i know there are so many things that we all want to accomplish in this lifetime. and we will. in due time. but first, we must balance our ambition.

healing from past trauma is a necessary part of the human experience. however, obsessing over your healing journey can be detrimental to your well-being and sort of have a reverse affect. it is the small but effective daily rituals that will enhance your experience here on this earth. healing simply put is living, learning, experiencing and growing. it doesn't have to look a certain way and definitely is not a one-size-fit-all solution. your healing journey should be individualized to YOU. if you like to read, do that. if you like going on walks, do that. do WHATEVER calms your nervous system. remember not to take life too seriously. laugh at yourself. have fun with it. and last but absolutely not least— remember this healing journey that we're all on is a marathon. so happy to be having this conversation. definitely one of our favorite episodes so far. <3

money + spirituality. whew. a topic not spoken about enough but so necessary. can't lie. it was even a bit uncomfortable for us but we got through it. our thoughts and ideas surrounding money begin to form around early child (unconsciously). as we grow older, we'll realize that these ideas begin to manifest into everyday habits. just like everything else, we must unlearn these negative concepts regarding money by first acknowledging your current ideas and feelings about it. you'll soon realize that money is neutral and takes on whatever energy you give it. you are money. the more you explore yourself and uncover the truest version of you, the closer you are to abundance in all areas of life— financial, health, joy, peace, etc.

imposter syndrome is a psychological phenomenon in which you feel like you don't deserve your accomplishments. you might feel like you don't belong, don't deserve your success, or are "out of place". you might even be constantly worried others will expose you as a fraud. more than likely, you've experienced imposter syndrome at some point in your life. anytime you are growing or experiencing something new, you may feel this. since imposter syndrome will more than likely keep occurring (because we are always growing), it's better to learn how to deal with it rather than run from it. in this episode, ri shares her most recent encounter with imposter syndrome and how she's dealing with it. plus a new way to look at the psychological phenomenon.

grieving the old version of myself.
when we talk about grief, we are often referring to the grieving process of someone other than ourselves— a loved one, a friend, a partner, etc. while grieving is a natural and very necessary response to the loss of someone close to you, it is just as necessary to grieve the old version of yourself that you are holding on to. in order to move forward and blossom into the person that you are meant to be, you must first go through this process. the best thing you can do for yourself is feel all of your feelings, forgive yourself, nurture yourself, and acknowledge the fact that it is okay and necessary to move on. the old version of you did what they had to do to survive. and that's okay. there are so many beautiful things waiting for you on the other side of this. <3
