3 Areas Caribbean Businesses are Failing Digitally in 2024
In this episode, Keron Rose dives into three critical gaps where Caribbean businesses are missing out on digital advantages. From the lack of a searchable web presence to the overlooked importance of content indexing and AI and the shortcomings of short-form content, this discussion highlights the pivotal areas where local enterprises must improve to remain competitive in the digital landscape.
Key Points Discussed:
Searchable Web Presence:
Many Caribbean businesses lack an effective online presence, which is crucial for being discovered by new customers. The absence of a robust, searchable website leads to missed opportunities in both local and international markets.
Content Indexing and AI:
As AI technology becomes more prevalent, the need for content to be indexed by search engines and AI tools is essential. Caribbean businesses are falling behind because their content is primarily on social media, which does not interact with these advanced technologies.
Shortcomings of Short-form Content:
While short-form content on social media is engaging, it lacks the depth required for significant customer decisions. Long-form content, which is more detailed and searchable, tends to provide more value by leading to better customer engagement and retention.
Closing Remarks:
"Doing business in the Caribbean shouldn't be arduous. By addressing these digital gaps, we not only enhance our operational efficiency but also improve our global competitiveness."

Where To Start My Content Creation Journey as a Business Owner
In Episode 157 of the Digipreneur FM podcast, we discuss the common overwhelm that business owners and entrepreneurs face when considering how to begin creating content. The episode dives into the pervasive advice of prioritizing video content, recognizing that this may not suit everyone due to various personal reasons. We emphasize exploring different mediums based on comfort levels, and I share personal experiences of starting with blogging due to its flexibility and ability to edit. We also highlight the importance of confidence in content creation, by starting in a comfortable medium to eventually expand into other formats like video and podcasts.
Three key takeaways from the episode are:
1. Start Where You're Comfortable: Begin your content creation journey in a medium that feels most natural and comfortable to you, whether it's writing, audio, or video. This approach helps build confidence and eases the transition into other content formats.
2. Content Quality Over Format: Not all video content is effective. High-quality content is key, and forcing oneself into a medium like video without the necessary skills or comfort can do more harm than good. It's important to produce content that reflects well on your business.
3. Utilize Various Content Creation Strategies: For those uncomfortable with direct content creation methods, we provide strategies for generating content indirectly, such as recording your voice and transcribing these thoughts into written form, then polishing with AI tools like ChatGPT for blog articles or converting them into carousels for social media. This method allows individuals to start creating content without having to be in front of a camera or write extensively from scratch.
The episode underscores the significance of content creation in today's digital landscape for building a business's presence and authority. It encourages finding a personal path to content creation that aligns with one's strengths and preferences, ensuring a sustainable and effective content strategy.

Professionals feel like there is no room for growth or to learn locally. Even when you travel, go to school abroad, or go to professional conferences or workshops abroad, returning to Trinidad to implement any of these doesn't happen for many reasons.

We look at critical data to support that Google is still the top platform in the Caribbean. Society Forgets Those Who Play It Safe...Especially In Business!
In 2022, I had to get to a place mentally where I could give myself permission to no longer play it safe within my brand & industry.
Playing it safe in your business, being politically correct, and fitting in, will have you undervalued, broke or meeting the bare minimum and most of all, your brand will not stand out from the noisy digital world.
The business community plays it safe in the Caribbean, and nobody wants to step on anybody's toes. Still, we have become complacent & accepted mediocrity in all aspects of our society because of that.
The thing is, nobody gets remembered for playing it safe and our industries don't grow when we aren't pushed by those who are willing to take risks.
In this episode, I dive into my morning thoughts and some lessons I've learned this year as I have pushed myself to get out of my comfort zone and no longer ride the fence for the sake of being politically correct.

How I Hit Over 10k Followers On TikTok in 2 Months
I'm sure by now you have heard about the generous organic reach happening on the TikTok platform and how some people are experiencing viral growth. However, that isn't happening for everybody!
I decided to double down on TikTok at the start of February and cracked the 10k following mark before we finished March. This episode dives into what I did to grow my following and engagement on TikTok with predominantly business-related content.
I also give a comparison of my growth on TikTok vs Instagram for the same period. My hope is that you can take some of the strategies and observations and make them work for your business as well.

Business Pet Peeve: DM For Price!
In the Caribbean, our business owners love to entice with their amazing products and services, only to then hit you with the DM for price.
Listen, in 2022...The last thing any customer or potential client wants to do is to DM you for a price.
There is no excuse anymore. We don't DM for prices on Amazon, nor do we DM for prices on Freelance platforms when we are looking to hire professional services.

7 Ways To Spot a Bad Business/Marketing Coach
In 2022, I am hoping that more and more of the population is equipped to determine who are the coaches and people they should be investing their money and time with to help them grow their own businesses.
It's hard for people to determine who can actually help you just by looking at their social media and many of the Business/Marketing/Social Media coach out here talk a good game. So in this episode, I am giving you 7 ways to check whether or not these coaches are worth investing in or even following on social media.
Following this guide will help you save your money from a bad investment, wasting your time or even allowing these people to take up precious space on your social media feeds.

What is the cheapest way to do E-Commerce in the Caribbean?
Even though the pandemic is fading and the world is starting to open back up, consumer habits have changed. They still want the convenience of being able to order from your website and have your products delivered to their addresses or book their appointments online.
That being said, 1 of the questions I got this week from a small business owner was "What is the cheapest way to do E-Commerce in the Caribbean?"
I break down the popular platforms like Wix, Shopify, Squarespace and WordPress, their fees and how to get paid on them.
The 2 hosting companies mentioned in this episode are Siteground and Overmill.

Companies Are Morphing Multiple Marketing & E-commerce Roles Into 1
We have seen more and more companies looking for digital marketers and E-Commerce specialists in the Caribbean in their push to go digital.
However, when we go through the job descriptions, we are seeing their role 8 roles into 1 and are trying to pay people next to nothing. We have seen companies like J&K Signature and Excellent Stores engage in these practices but when we look at the number of roles laid out and the remuneration of $6000ttd=$884USD to start for these jobs, there is something grossly wrong.
I hope this episode will help the companies understand that whilst they need these roles fulfilled, they would be better off seeking freelancers on platforms like Fiverr, then wrap multiple disciplines into 1 and underpay that staff member.
This should also let job seekers know that you need to value yourself and know that your skillsets have much more value than these companies are willing to pay you for and that you should stay away.
You can check out the J&K Signature Role Here -> E-Commerce & Digital Technology Admin

Is Brand Photography Dead For Social Media?
Back in June 2021 the CEO of Instagram, Adam Mosseri came out and announced that major changes would be coming to Instagram.
The message that Instagram sent was clear: it no longer wants to be thought of as the “square photo-sharing app,” as Mosseri puts it, but instead as a general entertainment app driven by algorithms and videos.
In December of 2021, The Caribbean region finally got the long-awaited feature Reels and creators across the region have started to see some growth in their numbers after many complaints of stagnation on the platform.
The question I wanted to tackle in this episode is...is brand photography dead for social media? If the top photo-sharing app is no longer focused on photos, as a business, does it make sense to pour budgets into photography for social media?
We dive into that question.

The Banks Are Holding Back Caribbean E-Commerce
In Ep 60, we take a look at how the banks in the Caribbean are severely holding back E-Commerce.
In 2022, the mistakes the banks continue to make are unforgivable, we are going into year 3 of the pandemic and they have shown no growth in how they are helping the business space understand & develop their transition into the world of E-Commerce.
This episode only happened because whilst I was doing my research for another episode, I realized that I couldn't get any of the information required from any of their websites and I literally had to get the information from networking.
If the banks want to see the region finally start to excel and tap into E-Commerce, they are going to have to do a lot more when it comes to educating, guiding and onboarding merchants better.

In this episode, I introduce the concept of the Brand Ecosystem and give you examples of what my ecosystem looks like.

When Should Businesses Use Brand Ambassadors & Should You Become One For a Brand
Signing a Brand Ambassador for your business has some tremendous upsides in the growth of your business both for awareness and sales.
Whilst we see many brands across the Caribbean using Brand Ambassadors, we often don't see a symbiotic relationship that makes sense for either party. What we tend to see is popular people with large followings sign deals and there is almost no visible strategy beyond awareness or any correlation with the brands & influencers.

How I Take 1 Content Idea& Turn It Into 11 Pieces of Content Across Multiple Digital Channels
When it comes to creating content as a business owner, I'm sure most of you have gotten those headaches about where to begin, how many times should I post, what platforms should I use and do I really need to post 3x per day? Lol.
Well in this episode, I am going to dive into my content repurposing strategy and show you how to take 1 idea and give you 11 ways to repurpose your content.
One of the biggest mistakes I keep seeing online is people telling you to double down on 1 platform...Forgetting that every platform is a key cog in an overall digital strategy.
Things don't need to be complex either and you don't need to start out doing everything...but over time, I would recommend learning about the various digital channels and learning how to repurpose content across the spectrum.
This will allow your brand to be omnipresent, get in front of different audiences, create content in a manner that people learn best in and help pull in leads and sales from all over the interwebs.
This is about 80% of what I do on a daily basis for everything I post...I would have included the other bits but then you would probably get overwhelmed and not think it possible lol.
The goal is to work up to this over time...and keep in mind...I am a Solopreneur doing all of this on my own...so it can be done!

Why TTT‘s Social Influencers Segments Were Terrible!
TTT recently did their Generation Next segments with Khary Roberts diving into the world of Social Media Influencers and interviewed 2 popular ladies on IG.
The segments in my opinion were really really bad. The purpose of the segments was to highlight how people could become social media influencers and how to turn this into a way to make money.
Unfortunately, they missed the mark entirely. There was no homework done on the industry to have a good conversation to actually help people learn how to turn this into a viable business.
Instead, we got 2 segments where they interviewed 2 ladies who highlight everything that is wrong with Social Media and why marketing agencies have lost faith in working with people with large followings.
They also focused on only 1 way to make money, which was to work with brands. Not only is that the lowest hanging fruit, but it is also the most inadvisable way for popular people to make money on social media.
We dive deeper into the topic in this episode.

Is It Time For Caribbean Businesses To Ween Themselves Off Instagram?
If you are a Caribbean-based business then nobody needs to educate you on how frustrating it has become to use Instagram to build your business.
You follow all the gurus, the experts, hire coaches and then begin to realize that all of the things they are teaching you in order to grow your brand exponentially are with tools or features that are not available in the Caribbean region.
At this point, to hope and pray for features to come to the Caribbean is foolish and you cannot build a business plan around the things you do not have access to.
That being said, when you start looking at all of the digital channels you can have or the other social media platforms that offer specific benefits, it may be time to start evaluating your digital strategy.
Linkedin, TikTok, Facebook and Youtube offer major benefits for Caribbean businesses and creatives that aren't available to us here in the Caribbean.
In this episode, we dive into detail why we should begin weening ourselves off of Instagram before it's too late and how the other social media and digital channels can be used to help grow our businesses in a big way.

The Digipreneur Foundations Workshop Series
ooking to grow your brand, business, spread your message, generate leads or sales?
To do all of that digitally, there are things we need to put in place that goes beyond the realm of social media.
I call it our Digital Foundations.
A website is not a static brochure to display a product or contact info...It is the #1 Employee and Sales rep for your brand. It collects data, shows up in front of people who are looking for things related to your niche, takes your bookings and makes you money.
For your website to do this, you will need to learn how to extract data from the search engines to craft the right content and optimize your pages to be found via the search engines.
Your Blog or Post Section should be getting the most love on your website. This is where you create content on your website from the written blogs, audio and video posts. Learning the type of content to create, optimizing them for search and how to properly distribute it on the various digital channels is a key part of success.
So join me on Oct 23, Oct 30, Nov 6 for the Digipreneur Foundations Workshops...Each session builds on top of the other.
Each session is $30usd/$200ttd but if you take all 3 sessions, you can use the Code: Foundation and save $15usd/$100ttd off.
To register for the workshops or get more info, visit The Digipreneur Foundations Workshop Series.
I look forward to seeing you there.
In Ep 41, I dive into marketing and branding lessons that I learned from watching a battle rap interview and the boxing match between Tyson Fury vs Deontay Wilder.
What really stuck out for me was the content business model, the importance of your own platforms in order to have more control over key elements in your business, that talent isn't enough to win and that ultimately building a brand surrounding your talent is the key to digital success.
I watch Battle Rap and Boxing for my own escapism this weekend and I ended up having to pull out the notepad to take down some really good lessons.

How I Hit Over 30kusd Profit In 1 Month
This was 5 years in the making but the month of Sept allowed me to hit my highest month in profit within my business.
I was able to hit over 30kusd with my ecosystem of products & services.
One of the best things I did during this journey is learning how to monetize your content and scale your business through digital products & services.
When I started off my business Droid Island, I learned real quick that with a brick and mortar store, there are just so many costs associated with running it and any disruption in the value chain can throw off your costs or delivery times to your consumers.
Becoming a 100% digital business, allowed me to scale and put more profit into my bank.
While I know we have people on Linkedin making a heck of a lot more lol...we all have to start somewhere and I'm glad to have hit this milestone in the middle of this pandemic.

Sunday Motivation: Is Entrepreneurship For You?
Want to hear some good and bad news?
Remember the "New Normal" that you have been hearing about for some time now?
Well, we are transitioning again to another new normal and who knows how society has been reshaped whenever we finally get past the pandemic.
With costs of goods/services raising and industries being transformed, I have been starting to feel more and more that the only way for people to be able to ride the upcoming waves, is by learning how to tap into our suppressed entrepreneurial spirit and learn how to generate new revenue streams for themselves and families.
Entrepreneurship is something that needs to be taken more seriously during these times, especially because people are becoming discouraged by the limitations of the current job market. Not everybody will be able to get a job but everyone can leverage their knowledge and skills to create revenue.

Why Becoming a Business Content Creator Was Great For Business
One of the best things I ever did was focus on creating business content.
It's different than creating random videos for entertainment purposes on social media. When you focus on solving problems for people that they value and you are educating them on things happening within your niche, you become the go-to resource.
Once that happens, this begins to open up a new world of opportunities for you.

6 Reasons Why A Solopreneur Does Not Need A Team
In this episode, we dive into 6 reasons why a solopreneur does not need to build a team to create or scale a business.
The beauty of being a Solopreneur lies in the flexibility we have with our time and location freedom but we can also leverage tools, automation and freelancers to perform tasks within our business.
It all comes down to a choice. We are now able to scale a business through digital means, as long as that that is what we desire to do.
In 2021, a Solopreneur no longer needs to scale by adding a team but can create multiple streams of income and still be the lone wolf in their business. It will also give you the freedom of only relying on yourself and not have to worry about other people within your business.

Sunday Motivation: The Time For Creativity Is Now
Growing up, whenever I heard people say that "You could be anything you want", I never believed it because I never got to see people around me becoming what they wanted.
I saw people who did what they had to do to survive but never become what they wanted to be.
Fast forward to the time we live in now and with all of the tools and resources available to us, my belief now is that we are only limited by our creativity.
Everyone's situations are different but it is encouraging when you see people being able to support themselves and families by just learning how to use their smartphone.
The time for creativity is now and I hope that whatever life you are creating, you lean into thinking outside of the box to innovate within your respective niche.

If there is 1 message I want to repeat to everybody, it is this one.
You do not need people to understand your journey, understand where you are coming from, give you permission, to cheer you on...you don't need this from anybody.
People will always doubt or critique, what they cannot wrap their minds around. Whether this is family, friends, people we are in relationships with...we do not need their permission or validation to pursue our dreams.
This is how people never get their ideas off the ground!

5 Reasons Why Marketing Doesn't Do Well In The Caribbean
In 2021, we here in the Caribbean need to step up our marketing efforts.
We have yet to make the shift necessary to understand that marketing is a revenue-generating activity and learn that great marketing sells or generates leads.
Social media marketers of the Caribbean...likes and engagement means nothing to CEOs who are looking at their bottom line & you can't show how your work generates revenue.
These 5 areas outlined in this episode are key areas for improvement.

Sunday Motivation: #NoExcuses
We live in a time where it's harder to give excuses for our situations.
We can learn skills right from home, start businesses with just a smartphone and connect with anybody across the globe.
Limitations are for those who aren't creative enough to create a solution.
Let's take the time this week to learn how to change the stories in our heads when we come across the challenges that we face. Most times, when faced with something that is giving us a tough time, we create more excuses as to why to quit than reasons we need to press on.
If we learn how to change the stories we tell ourselves to complete tasks, we can limit the excuses we give ourselves to not get something done.
I know for me, this episode is serving as a pep talk to myself to finally change the narrative in my head about working out and getting back into physical form that would allow me to find better mental focus.

Sunday Motivation: Why I Do Not Get Burnt Out
One of the biggest issues that have been popping up frequently during the course of the pandemic is "Burn Out".
It's a question that I get asked a lot because of the amount of work that I do and to be honest, when I give people my response, they are usually a bit shocked.
Since starting my business back in 2016, I have never felt burnout or coming close to it. I have needed to kind of sit with the reasons why I may not feel those feelings that people describe and I have narrowed it down to 6 key things within my life that has helped me.
Burnout is definitely real and I am not telling you that it doesn't exist. The people who do feel it, their feelings and reasons are valid. I think you should listen to them and take lessons from them and then also take notes from those who haven't experienced burnout. That way you have 2 perspectives that you can now use to help guide you.

The Key Infrastructure Needed For Your Marketing & Digital Success
When it comes to taking our businesses online, collecting data and measuring our marketing success, Caribbean Businesses struggle in this area because of the lack of infrastructure in their business.
Without things like your Website, CRM, Analytics Tools, Email List and more, it is very hard as a business to build online and measure the activities that you are doing.
If you don't know things like which platforms are generating the most traffic or business for you, what are the top questions/keywords that are leading people to your business, which influencers are driving the most traffic or sales to your business, then you are doing this wrong.
The struggle comes down to a lack of understanding of the tools and infrastructure needed in order to answer some of the most basic questions on how our brands are performing digitally.
In this episode, I cover 6 key pieces of infrastructure that your brand needs in order for marketing and digital success.
