Dependency on the Lord is an essential part of our relationship with Him. Despite this, many of us are still hell-bent on doing everything ourselves. We typically refer to this act as "trusting in the flesh". God is not a fan of this. In fact, He's cursed the Israelites for doing this in Jeremiah 17. Not only is trusting in the flesh offensive to God, it can also lead to a life of anxiety, stress, fatigue and rocky relationships. God's love is much easier to recognize when we get past our sense of entitlement. Entitlement writes off the ways God shows us His love as the bare minimum. I decided to make this episode to speak about the recent tragedies in Gaza and Israel. There's been a lot of rallying and split-support for both sides, which has made it hard to really discern truth from lies. I'm someone still being careful to fully understand the present and history of this issue. When we are angry, we end up doing or saying things that we regret. That's because our anger does not produce the righteousness of God (James 1:20). The Bible says all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. That means we've all done things we are not proud of, and sometimes that makes a gag at the thought of who we once were. I see that a lot of us can get caught up trying to make ourselves holy for God's approval. Many of us are tortured by the pressure of trying to sanctify ourselves, as if we ever had the power to. Our suffering often tempts us to think God hates us, left us or disapproves of us. However, the Scripture tells us that even we who have peace with Him through Christ will experience tribulations. Galatians 6:1 instructs us to restore our brethren who've been overtaken by sin with a spirit of gentleness. However, it seems a lot of Christian critique tend to come from a place of resentment and pride. In 2023, there are too many false teachers and doctrines to keep track of. God created us to bear His image, not build up our own. To do this, He's given us gifts and blessings all meant to glorify His name. Our pride has a way of turning other people's testimonies into our reasons to envy them. I think we all want to be happy for other people when good things happen to them. We all have visions of where we think we "should be" in life. However, it's important to remember that saying yes to God's plan is saying yes to His timeline as well. How often do you pray for your pastor, spiritual mentor, or favorite gospel artist? It's time we as Believers stop focusing on only "getting" but also incorporate "giving" into our walk. Last week we talked about how our obsession with overcoming our insecurities can lead us to sin. This week, we're going to expand on things and talk about how self-denial is the pathway to self-discovery, confidence, and a number of other blessings that come as a packaged deal with following Christ. I recorded this episode in Sept, 2019. Many of us deal with insecurities, but don't realize that oftentimes the enemy uses these insecurities to provoke us to sin. This week I had an epiphany about God's faithfulness. As I enter my sophomore year of my Masters Program, I am at peace knowing God is faithful (loyal) to me and will help me endure and overcome the semester. Think about it this way, God is more faithful to you than a person who decides to remain with their spouse after they've committed adultery. There i was... scrolling down Tik Tok, when I stumbled upon a Tik Tok Creator that had some interesting things to say about Yahweh. She argued that God was egotistical; why else would He be forcing us to worship Him and give Him all the glory, honor and praise? There's so much art and media out there in the world...and for some reason not many of them have something positive to say about Christianity. Happy Juneteenth! Today we celebrate the freedom of the African American people here in the States, who didn't know about their freedom until 2 years after the Emancipation Proclamation. Like these enslaved people, there are many people today who aren't aware of news of a freedom that is accessible to them, which is Jesus Christ. The shortest verse in the Bible reads, "Jesus wept." Despite the brevity of the verse, there is so much that needs to be unpacked here. Does God have emotions? Does He ever get sad? A couple of weeks ago I suffered from burnout. God has recently been pushing me to take my resting periods more seriously. We all need time to rest and regroup, and this time needs to be accompanied with fasting, prayer, meditation on the Word or all of the above. Resting is not laziness, it's necessary. A lot of us think we are pleasing God when we overwork, but in reality, pleasing God doesn't always look like "working hard." Knowing that the calling God has placed over your life is actually a command comes with huge benefits. For starters, God does not command humans to do anything we cannot accomplish with His empowerment. This gives us confidence to move forward in our calling, knowing that God has already made a pathway to a successful mission. All we need to do is listen, trust and obey. You are never too unqualified or unclean to follow a command of God. When we lose sight of grace, we lose sight of God.  Some of us think we are morally superior to others because we follow more rules in the Bible. This week God told me to "be present." I asked Him how, and this is the message I've been inspired to preach on today. I don't think being present is the goal, as much as it is the product of reaching the goal. I think the real goal is learning how to not linger in the past nor worry about the future. It's hard to feel content while comparing other people's blessings to yours. The truth is, our envy and covetousness for other people's things root from our urge to glorify ourselves. This is a problem, because we were created with the purpose to glorify God. I pray this one doesn't go over anyone's head. There must be a balance between acknowledging the the trauma, upbringing, and environments that cause us to have a tendency to behave a certain way, and taking responsibility for our actions. Sometimes, we hear "hurt people hurt people" as a way to pardon people from their bad behavior. I've been fed these messages by the Holy Spirit, encouraging the people who think they are too dirty or don't have what it takes. #askchurchboy: I have doubts on my salvation...how do I know if I am truly saved? Today I answer what it means, and looks like to truly be saved. As elementary as this topic may be for some, it is the most important message that I could ever preach on - as being sure of salvation is the most important thing in all of our lives!  I honestly don't preach about this enough. But the key takeaway from this message is that we are saved by faith in Jesus Christ. When God places us on a seat at the table, we can expect there to be people (or even our own thoughts) that try to convince us we don't belong there. #Askchurchboy Question: How does pride cloud our understanding of God's character and His fullness?; Comparison truly is the thief of joy, and today Emmanuel explains why he calls it the "never-ending cycle of self-inflicted, mental, torment."

Rejection is something we all hate to experience. We fear it because it makes us feel like we are not enough or that something is wrong with us. However, the life of Jesus is an example of someone who remained the Son of God, even when the world rejected Him. In this episode I cover why rejection is nothing to fear, and has no power while you are walking in God's path.

Jesus dying for us means more than our sins being washed away. His death gave us access to a relationship with the Father, in which we have freedom, identity and purpose. In this episode I talk about how since we've accepted Jesus into our lives, we then no longer have to allow sin, failure and comparison to define us.  Note: These past couple of weeks I've been mourning the passing away of a loved one. I had to take time away, as I didn't even know what to say and did not want to talk to or about God. But I'm back because I rediscovered that God is good and loves us all even through death. 2020 has been a year filled with many emotions - a prominent one has been anger, as there has been much to be angry about. So what does the Bible say about anger management? Cuz we can all use the advice right now... This episode is for the folks that are always mad all the time.

This episode is for those who may have a problem with complaining and murmuring too much. The message highlight a man named Caleb, who was able to acquire God's promise because of his "different spirit." Sometimes the spirit we operate with is the deciding factor of whether we enter God's promise or not. 

First, prayer was always that boring, painstaking thing I had to do when I was a kid. Then it became the thing I only did when I was scared about the future. I've witnessed a lot of growth, and now prayer has truly become a peace-evoking action for me - here's how.

Why is it easy for us to talk about God but hard for us to mention the name of Jesus? Jesus has been omitted from our speech, our TV shows, even some of our prayers. Do we even remember why Jesus is important?

We all fear being the version of ourselves we visualize at rock bottom. It's a shameful depiction. And our fear of that vision becoming reality sometimes hinders us from saying "yes" to God. This is a problem. 

There are 2 types of people in this world: the afraid and the aggressor. Are you the one that shrinks back in fear or the one that's confident enough take the first step? What makes the aggressor so confident anyway?

What's the prize? And is the prize worthy of being your prize? Does your vision of the perfect life do anything to advance the Kingdom of God? If it doesn't, then is there a point to it?

I've been running God's company for 2 years now and the #1 lesson I've had to endure revolves around what it means to "walk by faith and not by sight." A simple saying - but very difficult to act on. In this episode I breakdown the importance of living life with your eyes closed. #DTDOYY20

Through faith, not only are we justified, but we are also qualified. Jesus dying for our sins gave us the free gift of justification - the same way our faith in God has given us the qualifications to fulfill our life purpose no matter how big they are.

It's hard to do the right thing at inconvenient times. However, in these inconvenient times, our responses hold the most weight. What we decide to do at our most uncomfortable periods can yield the most growth.

Faith is like the gateway between everything God wants to do in our lives and the physical realm. We have the responsibility of keeping that gateway open and maintained. If it closes down, we don't receive what's ours. Without faith, we have nothing.

Has the way you've responded to the crisis aligned with the vision of one that has unquenchable faith in God? If not, then there is room to grow, and that starts with acknowledging that we could do better. This is your test, your next response will determine whether you pass or not. Trust God.

When in crisis, the thing that will get you through it all is your knowledge of the truth. The truth is something you must know, it goes beyond feelings - it has the ability to change everything. Our faith in God rests on the truth, so make sure you know it. 

Raise your hand if you don't know what's going to happen next, and fact of not knowing it's been killing you inside. Raise your hand if the pressures to be successful - whether it comes from society, your parents or even your pride - are eating you up. It's time to fear not. Please have a listen.

Oftentimes we allow out eternal identities to be determined by our temporary feelings. This is dangerous, as it makes us vulnerable to satan's influences. We need to find a way to make our feelings conform to our identity, not the other way around.

Jesus never did a miracle with the purpose of PROVING anything to anybody. Everything He did was to serve others. He didn't make a reputation while concerned with the superficial, but by being concerned with service. This is an example we need to emulate. No need to proving what you already know - let your service reveal to "them" who you are.

The obstacles you faced in the past did not make you, nor do they define you. This is a myth. Your responses to those obstacles are what have the true influence on who you are now; Correcting the negative images of the "past you" is imperative. How we view our past selves can very well have an impact on how we approach our future.

We may encounter situations that are great and others that are bad, but that does not mean our mindsets or the narratives of our lives have to follow that fluctuating pattern. There is power in being moderately-minded.

God can chastise us for us to be stronger, not to harm us. Chastisement may not be joyful, but oftentimes those experiences are what we need for our faith to grow. When your faith grows, you grow.

Too many of us waste our life away waiting for everything to be perfect before we chase our dreams or be obedient to God. You're busy waiting to see "it" so you can move, while God is waiting for you to move so you can begin to see "it." No more waiting - work. - R.I.P. Kobe

Can students be "too goal-oriented"? Is it okay for students to get so caught up in academia they neglect all of their other passions? Today Emmanuel sits down with his very first guest. Close friend, Michael Okene, got to a point in his academic career where he had to make a decision on whether or not he should continue to manage the UCLA basketball team or focus more on his med-school route.

The reason you came down off that spiritual high is not because God wore off. Sometimes the reason we lose the new ideas and messages God has given us is because we still operate with an old mindset. New wine needs new wineskins; God needs your imagination to grow parallel to the visions He's giving you.

When our prayers have aligned with God, God gives us what we ask for. The true mission comes in our process of receiving that blessing. We need the faith and attentive ears needed to follow instructions and not faint. When we realize how God has already given us what we prayed for it helps us to acknowledge the inevitability of our destiny.

God isn't helping you to fulfill your life purpose JUST for you to be happy. He's using you to bless others. When we realize that, we are able to focus less on ourselves (insecurities, fears, doubts), and just know that God will use us according to His will for the sake of helping the people He loves.

I have mistakenly lived a life of seeking affirmation from other people in order to believe I was special. I didn't feel special until other people treated me like I was special. That is no way to live, as compliments are just as inconsistent as people are. The only person you need to treat you like who you are in order to be you, is you.

Being a Christian doesn't mean life becomes easy. You will still face problems, still have hardships - however the difference lies in how you are able to conquer them. Building a foundation on Christ is like building your foundation on the rock - it will allow you to withstand the flood.

Optimism is a result of our faith in God. This is what we must use to access God's promises for us. Positive thinking, and hope for a better future is what will get us through our current, hard times. Optimism is more than a feeling, or a word used to describe a type of person, it's a tool that opens doors and a keeps us from giving up.

When we realize that everything is not about us - but about others - we are able to stress less about our personal insufficiencies and focus more on God's ability to change lives through us. When we serve God we don't have to know "how", we just need to make sure we are obedient and serving as He wishes.

Sometimes, amidst being 100% goal-oriented, we become too fixated on an action plan - then loose sight of the actual reason behind us accomplishing said goal. Ultimately, each of us have a purpose to serve God and other people, and when we get distracted from service, we lose all authenticity when approaching a task. Remember - service is everything.

Many of us spend our entire life preparing for the future. This is great, however, this habit - like all habits - need to be managed. Too much preparation for the future can distract one from living and loving their life in the present. Everyday of your life has purpose - even now, before you're financially stable, with a family and big house.

Somehow at the end of a week in which I took 2 fat L's - I managed to be very proud of myself and content with life. This is because ultimately, I've been growing, and starting to understand more about the purpose behind L's and the best ways to respond to them.

There is a difference between "guilt" and the Christian definition of "conviction". The latter means to be remorseful and know wrong - while the other is a device used by the enemy to make you think you are too unworthy to have a relationship with God. It's time to get rid of the guilt before it kills you.

Yes, your Churchboy has indeed been stressed out. I've been praying, I've been doing my best - but there's just so much to do and so much pressure. School work, job work, side-hustle work. What can us stressed folk do in a time like this?

I don't think theirs a step-by-step process or a blanket rule for everyone to follow - however there are some common denominators in all of our journeys. 9 times out of 10, how you view yourself or your future is indicative of how you end up. You have control of what goes on in your head - use that ability to your advantage. You can envision the best, or you can envision the worst - the choice is yours.

True freedom is found when you know who you are. True freedom is kept when the knowledge of your identity withstands the attacks of the enemy.

What is a Perception Prison? It is the box we put each other in. The low expectations we place on others that we never want them to overcome.
