These minisodes will help you shake off any negative studying baggage from the week before and offer a moment to pause, reflect and change your approach so you can move off in a new, more successful direction. In this week’s minisode, we’re gonna normalise something that is not spoken about nearly enough; the fact that studying is SUPPOSED to be hard. To learn effectively involves a significant amount of uncomfortable, stretching processes. The issue comes when students believe that finding studying really difficult is a sign that they’re just not that great at it. And when we regularly feel unconfident as learners we’re more likely to procrastinate, self-sabotage and just generally feel poopy. Ep.131 How to Overcome the Biggest Disadvantage of Distance Learning
#131 – I am a HUGE fan of studying in a way that fits into your life, and learning from home is a great option for many students, however there is one pretty hefty disadvantage of distance learning. Isolation. Studying at home alone. Studying without ever meeting your peers. Studying without much interaction with your tutor. There are lots of practical issues with this but there is one area that’s often overlooked – the emotional toll of studying by yourself. It can be harder to motivate yourself to study, and more difficult to pick yourself back up after a setback. It can be a struggle to keep yourself disciplined and focused too. But don’t worry. Today’s episode is all about addressing this biggest disadvantage of distance learning. I’m going to share multiple ways that you can feel more connected in your studies and we’ll dive into exactly how you can become a calmer, more focused student and how you can more easily make positive changes in your studying. Sound good? OK, let’s dive in. To get the links and shownotes for this episode, head to: https://chloeburroughs.com/episode131. Enrol in the Kickbutt Students Club. Ep.073 Studying Timelines and How to Know Whether to Keep Striving or Slow the Feck Down
#073 – Who comes up with the studying timelines we’re supposed to stick to? Us? The education system? Society? We live in a world where it’s still seen as ‘different’ and ‘non-traditional’ to still be in education past your early twenties. But we also live in a world that’s telling us we need to become life-long learners, that we’ll have multiple careers, and that we need to continually upskill ourselves. No wonder our studying timelines are all out of whack. In this episode I’m going to talk all about these unrealistic, stressful studying timelines we can put on ourselves. I’ll cover goal setting, managing expectations and where failure comes from. And I’ll share all about the very necessary distinction between healthy striving and healthy slowing down – that we need BOTH to become life-long learners without burning out. #065 – There’s a lot of bad studying advice out there, so it’s no wonder that a lot of students are revising for exams in the wrong way. Could this be you? Do you find exam revision stressful? Ep.063 How to Plan and Revise Effectively for an Online Exam
#063 – Sitting an exam in person, in an exam hall, can be a pretty stressful experience. But in-person exams have been the norm for most universities forever so it may feel a little daunting to have to sit an online exam at home. Or you may be thinking ‘yippee!’ at the thought of an online exam. Because they DO have their upsides. But they do require a different revision strategy than an in-person exam. When it’s less about memorisation and more about application...your revision strategies need to change. Yes, you may get to have your books and notes around to help, but that can actually cause more issues than it solves. In the past year I’ve worked with A LOT of students who took their first ever online exam from home...and failed...because they didn’t take it seriously, or because they didn’t think their exam strategy would have to change. In this episode, I’m going to share with you my simple 7-step process to help you plan and revise effectively for an online exam. Ep.039 How to Heal the Education Scars That Are Holding You Back
#039 – I don’t think I’ve yet come across a student who doesn’t have some education scars. These are what I call the long-lasting imprints of a bad study experience. Whether you were told by teachers that you weren’t academic, or that you’d never amount to anything...or your parents highlighted your ‘weaknesses’ and shortcomings...or your sibling was known as ‘the smart one.’ Unfortunately, our education scars don’t stay in the past – they come back to bite us in our present-day studying. When we go through challenges and stuck points these scars can reappear, make us miserable and stop us from achieving our full academic potential. In this episode, I walk through exactly what education scars are and how they hold us back in our studies and all areas of our life that require learning. I then share six ways you can start to heal your education scars so you can overcome your limiting beliefs, quieten your doubts, and progress in your studies as a more confident, positive learner. Ep.002 The Awesome Advantages of Being a Non-traditional Student
#002 – Every student is sold the traditional route to higher education. Finish school at 18, move away from home and complete university full time before entering the world of work. But this route is outdated and ineffective for a lot of students who could benefit instead from going down a non-traditional route to advance their career. In this episode you’ll learn why going straight to university does NOT always work, the reasons why it can go wrong, and in what situations it would be more effective to return to education later in life and/or in combination with work. I’ll share more of my non-traditional journey and the reasons why going straight into higher education wouldn’t have worked for me. Then you’ll discover six key advantages of being a non-traditional student. I share my story as well as the experiences of six other students who’ve kicked tradition to the curb and taken their own unique higher education path. By the end of this episode, you’ll feel proud of your non-traditional route and will see that it’s not a lesser option but an exciting option that has many incredible benefits.
