Ep. 45 App for Teens to Build Good Habits an Interview with Kountinya Sai

How does the sport of cricket get more viewers than the NBA? Why does an app featuring games of cricket get a mind-blowing 200 million downloads? You’ll find out all of this and more in this episode featuring Kountinya Sai, an impressive marketer from India.  Learn more about the Carlsbad Chamber. After earning an MBA in 1998, Kountinya Sai started in the advertising business. During the dotcom boom, he built India's largest online bookstore. It had over one million books—all the books you could buy on Amazon.com, you could buy on SIFI mall.com. In 2012, he joined a sports publisher and started handling advertising sales for them globally. They went from 10 million downloads to 200 million downloads in a couple of years. They were the largest sports publisher in the mobile space. “We started taking that model to other countries. So we took it to Canada, South Africa, UK, Australia. Cricket as a game has transformed to target the younger audience, so that's where the advertisers need to spend their money. The game is getting onto platforms, which were not there earlier. For example, mobile. Let's say they're commuting to work in New York…. or San Francisco, when a big cricket match is going on in India. They cannot watch the game in front of their television sets at home. So their platform of choice became mobile. They're watching the games through our app.” Through helping his daughter with a runathon fundraiser, marketing genius Kountinya Sai realized that teens need motivation to build habits like exercising and doing the next right thing. So he started building his product, a gamified rewards wallet for teens to practice good habits. Find out more by listening to the episode. Bio Twenty years ago, Kountinya Sai started his career by joining a dotcom start-up. His world has turned a full circle as he launches his own startup: Harmoney.  Interview Links Kountinya Sai Co-Founder & CEO  [email protected] http://www.harmoney.ai https://instagram.com/harmoney_ai?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y= https://www.facebook.com/kountinya.sai https://youtube.com/channel/UC21UXSjoISwfojyPTJVD9YA http://linkedin.com/in/kount Read the full blog here - https://harmoney.ai/our-journey/

Ep. 44 What Can I Do For You? Helping Students Succeed feat. Claude Jones

Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce | City of Carlsbad, California  Claude Jones has a passion for creating opportunities to help others succeed. For over a decade, his life’s mission has been focused on encouraging, inspiring, and motiving others through his words and actions. A seasoned technical leader with over 15 years of experience, Claude was responsible for establishing the Walmart Lab office in Carlsbad and is VP of Engineering for Strava. More information on the series can be found at https://astrothemonster.com/ In one program, Claude worked with high school seniors. He took them through an entrepreneurship bootcamp, which was a great opportunity for the high schoolers to bring one of their ideas to fruition, saying, “Hey, this could be a business.” They worked on building their brand, marketing strategy, business plan, and a pitch deck that they could present. “It was a six-week program,” Claude explains. “You could see the confidence of folks go from not wanting to speak in front of an audience in the beginning, to speaking and having a great time by the end.” Claude says the key is to “bring people together and ask the question, ‘What can I do for you’ instead of ‘What can you do for me?’” “This is a volunteer-based organization. You have passionate people that want to give back, that have a purpose. They care about their city and they want to make an impact.” Join us for the interview. Ep. 43 Dr. Kanika Bembey: Doing Right by Treating Only One Patient at One Time

Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce | City of Carlsbad, California  Dr. Kanika Bembey is with Encinitas Periodontics and Dental Implants. She grew up in India, went to dental school there, and currently lives in California. In an unusual move, she took over a practice from an owner and worked for him for a few months as an associate, then switched, so he's now her associate and she’s the business owner. It’s going well. Dr. Bembey performs LANAP, laser assisted gum surgery. “It's minimally invasive. That means we are not using the traditional blades to cut away your gums. Laser is just light and does minimal cutting. It's also no sutures or stitches that I have to put in because I'm not doing a traditional surgery.” She also uses what she calls platelet-rich fibrin procedure, which uses the patient’s own blood plasma. “Plasma has concentrated growth factors, which helps you heal faster and better. If there's a one-day-old wound and we are putting a plasma dressing on top of it, it behaves like a one-week-old wound.” Her motto is “Treat only one patient at one time and we always do what is right for the patient at that time.” Dr. Kanika Bembey says it only takes five minutes to take care of your oral health if you do proper steps. Take good care of your oral health. It’s so important.
