Blue-in-Green:PODCAST_#139_Honest Lee
Welcome to Episode #139 of the Blue-in-Green:PODCAST which this week sees Imran connect with producer, DJ and musician, Honest Lee whose music comes to us via the innovative hub of creative talent, Growroom Productions.
And through that very lens of the Hyattsville, Maryland-based, Growroom, one Mylie ("Honest Lee") Durham has managed to chart a thoroughly impressive and engaging musical journey that has afforded himself - and many others - a platform in which to create music steeped in sincerity and unhindered in its design. For Durham, whether his releases have been presented under the banner of Honest Lee, igloo two, The Mighty Heard or Three Man Soul Machine, it's very much a journey that celebrates his continual compulsion and passion to create.
It's been an excellent year for Growroom with the unveiling of the second full-length album release from Honest Lee, 'Cosmic Justice', and the release of igloo two's 'between time remixes' compilation so it was an absolute pleasure to be able to secure time with Lee to discuss each of those projects, his initial start in music, his ongoing desire to create and plans for Growroom going forward.

Blue-in-Green:PODCAST_#138_Allysha Joy
Welcome to Episode #138 of the Blue-in-Green:PODCAST which this week sees Imran connect with the singer, songwriter, musician and producer, Allysha Joy.
The phenomenally-talented Allysha Joy has long served as a prominent name within Melbourne's ever-creative nu-jazz-meets-future-soul landscape that continues to introduce new names to wider audiences. As a member of the now supergroup 30/70, Allysha and company helped to usher in diverse and eclectic new soundscapes that have gone on to leave an indelible mark on the genre and impact each of their individual solo successes outside of the group.
Allysha's mind-blowing versatility has seen her garner praise and plaudits as an in-demand collaborator having chalked up work alongside New Sector Movements, Sarah Williams White, Skygaze, David Versace and Finn Rees. Able to flit between a variety of musical realms from spiritual jazz to neo-soul to broken beat, Joy's limitless perceptions on music make her one of the most captivating artists working today.
We were beyond thrilled to spend time with Allysha Joy who generously shares so much of her own journey, discusses her creative processes and delves into the release of her third sensational full-length project, 'The Making of Silk'.

Blue-in-Green:PODCAST_#136_Edy Forey
Welcome to Episode #136 of the Blue-in-Green:PODCAST which this week sees Imran connect with the Edinburgh-based duo, Edy Forey, to discuss their sensational debut album, 'Culture Today'.
Ultimately coming to the table from vastly different musical backgrounds, Polish-born singer-songwriter Edy Szewy and Parisian pianist Guilhem Forey were able to find common ground through each of their unwavering passions for music. With Szewy predominately influenced by neo-soul and hip-hop, and Forey a devoted jazz fan, their combined efforts resulted in a sublime sonic palette that paid due praise to each's musical affections.
'Culture Today' showcases an inspired perspective on contemporary jazz-inspired neo-soul and is a project bolstered by some incredible guests including Ezra Collective's Femi Koleoso and Snarky Puppy's Michael League and Mark Lettieri. The album boasts the added distinction of Bob Power's studio wizardry throughout.

Blue-in-Green:PODCAST_#135_Ciara Moser
Welcome to Episode #135 of the Blue-in-Green:PODCAST which this week sees Imran connect with the Boston-based bassist, composer, band leader and educator, Ciara Moser.
With the release of her debut solo offering in 'Blind. So What?', Moser firmly establishes her inspired perception of contemporary jazz-funk and jazz-fusion for her music going forward. But more than solely serving as a project that is exemplary for its bold and creative compositions and songwriting, the album also seeks to provide insight through a first-hand account of life as a blind musician. Across the album's twelve tracks, Moser imaginatively explores these themes, and recounts from her own experiences, outlining issues pertaining to trust, spatial distance and memory.
As a highly-educated and highly-decorated artist, Moser's inumerable successes to date continue to inspire and serve as the framework for even greater achievements in time to come. We were thrilled to have secured time with Ciara to discuss the transition to band leader for this project, her desire to bring more awareness for the blind musical community and we delve into everything that went into the making of 'Blind. Blue-in-Green:PODCAST_#134_Benjamin Samuels
Welcome to Episode #134 of the Blue-in-Green:PODCAST which this week sees Imran connect with the Sydney-based saxophonist Benjamin Samuels.
With the release of his debut solo offering in 'Dissensation', Samuels firmly asserts himself amongst a really fascinating crop of Australian musicians keen to present inspired and broad perspectives to jazz. Artists like Godtet, Horatio Luna and David Versace are becoming renown for their effortless ability to regard jazz as a lawless entity, free to be adapted and representative of contemporary styles and trends. As a seasoned performer, Samuels regards the genre in the same loving context, creating a record in 'Dissensation' that thrives off of its inspirations and influences. Having performed and toured alongside the dynamic off-beat electronica of Grouch in Dub, the tribal drum'n'bass of Seb Taylor and the global musical perspectives of Balkan Bump, Samuels has clearly relished in these experiences and fuses them all, along with so much more, into 'Dissensation' - his own perfect vision of contemporary jazz.
We were thrilled to have secured time with Benjamin to discuss the transition to band leader for his project, the Australian music scene, music in a post-quarantine time, what makes jazz jazz and of course, we explore everything that went into the making of 'Dissensation'.

Blue-in-Green:PODCAST_#133_Amanda Whiting
Welcome to Episode #133 of the Blue-in-Green:PODCAST which this week sees Imran connect with the revered harpist, composer, author and educator, Amanda Whiting.
Already an established artist with album releases through Jazzman Records, Amanda's boundless talents have really risen to prominence this year with the last six months generating some incredible successes. The 'Lost in Abstraction Remixes' EP came at the tail-end of 2023 through the Scrimshire-helmed Albert's Favourites label and was swiftly followed by her collaborative First Word Records release with Don Leisure, 'Beyond the Midnight Sun'. Three projects that go a long way in demonstrating the scope of Amanda's skill and capability. Recognising her immeasurable talent, First Word were keen to induct Amanda into the label's hallowed halls recently releasing her amazing project, 'The Liminality of Her'.
We were thrilled to have secured time with Amanda as a feature presentation for our International Jazz Day celebrations (28th April 2024) so you can now catch the complete unedited conversation here. During our chat, we discuss the aforementioned three projects, her connection to First Word and her journey to jazz via the harp.

Blue-in-Green:PODCAST_#132_Tim "Chiminyo" Doyle
Welcome to Episode #132 of the Blue-in-Green:PODCAST which this week sees Imran connect with London-based drummer, percussionist and composer, Tim Doyle.
Doyle has seen long cemented himself amongst one of London's premier musicians amidst its pioneering jazz scene. Boasting a résumé that has seen the musician serve as a key contributor to spiritual jazz ensemble Maisha as well as the genre-defying Cykada, Doyle has further established his sound via his own Chiminyo project which seeks to celebrate the union of jazz with more electronica and club-infused soundscapes. With his latest release through Astigmatic Records, Uniri's 'Infinite Reflections', Doyle & company once again seek to reimagine contemporary jazz this time using hip-hop luminaries as their jumping off point.
We were so grateful for the chance to catch-up with Tim to discuss his approach to making music and establishing new collectives, what constitutes jazz in today's musical landscape, Chiminyo releases and of course the new Uniri project. We also have an involved conversation about how listeners consume their music today and the ramifications of streaming culture on the independent artist.

Blue-in-Green:PODCAST_#131_Mike De Souza
Welcome to Episode #131 of the Blue-in-Green:PODCAST which this week sees Imran connect with London-based guitarist and composer, Mike De Souza.
Having just released his second full-length project at the end of 2023, 'Chrysalis' further held the distinction of having found a home on the revered Spanish label, Fresh Sound Records. Despite being a project that initially found its life during the quarantine period, 'Chrysalis' became an album about hope through adversity and a stunning piece of work to add to De Souza's burgeoning catalogue.
With two albums and an EP ('Road Fork', 2018) now under his belt, De Souza continues to cement his name as a solo artist in his own right in addition to his already stunning résumé which includes a slew of releases via collaborative projects, session work and global touring duties. Perhaps best known for the genre-defying Big Bad Wolf project which generated the fantastic 'Pond Life' album in 2017 and was subsequently followed by a selection of standalone singles, De Souza can further boast collaborations with Twospeak, Alex Paxton, Simon Read and Phil Meadows as well as having secured touring duties alongside the revered US trumpeter Terrence Blanchard.
We were grateful to catch-up with Mike to discuss the new album, his early connections to music and the guitar, the creative process and Big Bad Wolf. We'd love to extend a gratious thank you to Mike for his time and for gifting us with a really fascinating conversation.

Blue-in-Green:PODCAST_#130_Eki Shola
Welcome to Episode #130 of the Blue-in-Green:PODCAST which this week sees Imran connect with the immeasurably talented, Eki Shola.
As a singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and composer, Eki has cultivated a strong reputation for her inspired and all-encompassing approach to music-making. Always revered for her ability to incorporate various genres and styles within her music - from jazz to neo-soul to twinges of electronica - her current, fifth album release '還 (Kaeru)', ushers in an even more ambitious creative scope...
Recorded in Japan alongside a team of musicians, the combination of cultural styles breeds sensational results and provides an incredible new aesthetic to anything we've heard Shola bless previously. An album that finds itself immersed within the themes of identity and the concept of home, Eki has long proved herself to be an artist that wears her heart on her sleeve, creating impassioned and sincere music as a result.
We were grateful to catch-up with Eki to discuss the new album, recording and touring the release in Japan, the creative process and her family's deep-rooted connections to music. We'd love to extend a gratious thank you to Eki for her time and for gifting us such a wonderful episode.

Currently promoting new single 'Company', the immeasurably talented artist is steadily ammassing an excellent collection of music with a mix of independently released singles and releases as part of the contemporary soul label, Big AC Records. Whether Abi's releases find her addressing wider societal issues or whether they find her speaking to more intimate dynamics, her songs seem to permeate through to audiences and resonate with those fears, concerns and joys that we all experience.
A consistent live performer having supported contemporary luminaries including Izo Fitzroy and MF Robots as well as headlining her own shows, Big AC Records' Third Anniversary Show is currently set for 30th November 2023 at Oslo Hackney, London, and finds Abi sharing the stage with labelmates Nick Corbin, Carmy Love and Emma Noble.

Blue-in-Green:PODCAST_#127_Simon S (a.k.a. Peter Franks)
Welcome to Episode #127 of the Blue-in-Green:PODCAST which this week sees Imran connect with DJ, producer, Simon S.
As founder of Futuristica Music, Simon S has always strived for the label to showcase an exemplary perspective on progressive and innovative new sounds from various quarts of the contemporary soul music landscape. Just from a quick assessment of the label's recent releases, there's the neo-soul sounds of the sensational Georgie Sweet, the hip-hop inspired aesthetic of vocalist LaNote, the soulful electronica of As Valet's 'Virgo Stellar' project and of course the always exceptional releases of Deborah Jordan, most recently via her phenomenal pairing with K15 for 'HUMAN'.
The Simon S helmed Jazz Chronicles and Peter Franks projects afford the DJ and producer the opportunity to nurture his affections for a series of interwoven jazz-meets-hip-hop narratives with The Peter Franks Group in particular forging ahead with a creative path born of samples-based compositions fused with lush live instrumentation.
And forging "ahead" in this instance is the key term.
While the initial Peter Franks release in 2018 sought to pay loving tribute to influences and inspirations via a series of exquisite, nostalgia-driven compositions in 'Days Past', 2023's 'Days Ahead' - as the title suggests - is an infinitely more assertive and confident record. Its commitment to creating its own identity is very much an ideal that gives focus to the album and unifies much of its context.
With Simon S/Peter Franks credited for the album's production along with drums, samples, bass, keys and percussion, the 'Days Ahead' table is set for an exalted line-up of contributors including Amanda Whiting, Nat Birchall, Robert Mitchell and Marc Rapson among others.
We were fortunate to catch up with Simon to discuss the making of the new record, the collaborators involved and discuss some upcoming Futuristica info for the year.

Welcome to Episode #126 of the Blue-in-Green:PODCAST which this week sees Imran connect with singer-songwriter, Laura Llorens.
Initially raised in Lake Michigan, Llorens' affections for the French culture and lifestyle saw her relocate to Paris where she has since called home over the last twenty years. But wherever Llorens would eventually settle, being able to reach an audience through such an immense level of talent was always destined to be in her future. With three independent releases under her belt, a meeting with Q-Sounds Recordings founder, Ludovic Bors, led to the formation of Laura Llorens & The Shadows of Love who can boast two fantastic albums with the incredible home of French funk & soul.
Currently riding high with the release of the sensational 'No Love No Peace', we're very appreciative to have secured time with Laura to discuss her transition from the US to Paris, her musical journey to Q-Sounds, the incredible new album, defining success and what it means for someone to challenge themselves through the art that they make.

One of our favourite guests for the podcast, La Molly, turns the tables on this episode assuming the position of host and asking Imran all the tough questions to unpack the origins of Blue-in-Green:RADIO. It's a great conversation that delves into the passion to create, evolving trends in music consumption, getting started in radio and the importance of finding your own voice when it comes to presenting.
We'd love to extend a heartfelt thank you to Molly for this episode who affords us the chance to tell a little of our story which has been a wonderful gift. We hope you enjoy the episode.

Welcome to Episode #120 of the Blue-in-Green:PODCAST which this week sees Imran connect with brand new member of the Blue-in-Green:RADIO line-up, Bob Hill.
It's with immense pleasure that we announce our partnership with DJ, presenter, podcaster, Bob Hill and the inclusion of his illustrious Illicit Grooves radio show now launching as part of the Blue-in-Green:RADIO airwaves. Starting Sunday 5th February and broadcasting every Sunday 1-3pm, Bob will be bringing his discernible talents as one of the UK's preeminent and distinguished tastemakers celebrating the innovative and the independent.
-----
With regular features, the Amen Corner, The Sunday Afternoon Jump-Up, Back in the Day Belters and the focus on new, recent and future music Bob Hill programmes the show to bring you two hours of #GroovesForTheGlobalLEFTfield. Exploring Black Music through the prism of the groove rather than genre, tracks are selected and juxtaposed to reflect all that is wonderful, joyous and diverse from a wide range of producers, musicians, composers, vocalists and artists. 'Selecting music for the show is a throwback to my early days of DJ-ing from the late 80s into the 90s when Rare Groove, Acid House, Drum and Bass, Jungle, Jazz, Hip-Hop, Afrobeat, Acid Jazz, AOR and various fusions would all find their way into my sets', says Bob.
-----
It's an immeasurable pleasure to present our in-depth conversation with Bob discussing his early connections to music, starting out in radio, his affections for UK jazz and his own Talking Grooves podcast.

Blue-in-Green:PODCAST_#119_Karu (Alberto Brutti & Andrea Di Nicolantonio)
Welcome to Episode #119 of the Blue-in-Green:PODCAST which this week sees Imran connect with members of the Milan-based collective Karu, Alberto Brutti and Andrea Di Nicolantonio.
With their second full-length project now available through Italy's diverse Beat Machine Records, 'An Imaginary Journey' continues where its predecessor ('Kuru', 2020) left off, boasting a phenomenal and bold interpretation of contemporary jazz that draws from a wide array of influences from its tribal aesthetic mixed with electronica, spiritual jazz and hip-hop production.
Comprised of band leader and double bassist Alberto Brutti, guitarist Andrea Di Nicolantonio, saxophonist Mario D’Alfonso and Cristiano Amici on drums, Karu create intricate soundscapes which relies heavily on improvisation and music created within that specific time and space. A live album released early in 2022, 'Live at Commerce', provides a thrilling insight into Karu's infectious live performances and spontaneous interplay between its closely-knit band members, and a cover of MF DOOM's 'One Beer' kicks the project off in spectacular fashion.
It's a tremendous pleasure to introduce Alberto and Andreas to our podcast to discuss the new album, how Covid and quarantine impacted the release of the project and our shared affections for the music of MF DOOM and Madlib.

Blue-in-Green:PODCAST_#118_Clement Regert
Welcome to Episode #118 of the Blue-in-Green:PODCAST which this week sees Imran connect with guitarist and founder of jazz trio, Wild Card, Clement Regert.
With a core trio comprised of Regert, Hammond organist Andrew Noble and Sophie Alloway on drums, the trio get set to unveil their sixth studio album. Having initially played together in 2011 at a club where Regert hosted a residency, the chemistry proved undeniable and the trio have - thankfully - remained together ever since.
With the brand new Wild Card album release due at the end of this month, 'Cabin 19 Fever' serves as a reflection of the extensive quarantine period brought on by a certain worldwide pandemic - with the majority of the album written and recorded separately, the circumstances would go on to open the doors to working with collaborators both old and new including Marcus Strickland, Rosie Turton, Binker Golding and Maurice Brown amongst ten other sensational names.
Wild Card's blend of high energy, funk-filled and Latin-laced jazz is once again on full display on 'Cabin 19 Fever' - they've become a band that continually find ways to out do themselves and raise the bar with each release so check out the episode to hear Imran and Clement discuss the new album, its collaborators, quarantine life as a creative and as a touring musician.

Welcome to Episode #117 of the Blue-in-Green:PODCAST which this week sees Imran connect with singer-songwriter, Carmy Love.
As a vocalist for New Street Adventure - whose debut release with Acid Jazz came in the form of 'No Hard Feelings' in 2014 - Love is accustomed to sharing the studio and stage with premier London-based talent within the realms of funk and soul so the recent transition to solo star in her own right is absolutely a welcome move. Having amassed a series of incredible singles for the London-based Big AC Records including 'Thinkin' About You', 'Together Again' and 'Rebel', Carmy's fantastic vocal sits right at home over the blissful 60's-style, horn-heavy soul soundscapes.

Blue-in-Green:PODCAST_#114_Deborah Jordan & K15
Welcome to Episode #114 of the Blue-in-Green:PODCAST which sees Imran connect with Deborah Jordan and K15.
While the inspired pairing of revered singer and songwriter, Deborah Jordan, alongside the boundless versatility of producer and musician Kieron "K15" Ifill for a whole album seemed too good to be true, this is actually a project that each of their respective roads had been converging towards for years. With a musical union that stretches as far back as Jordan's sophomore album release 'What You See' (2011), K15's immaculate production has become a firm staple within her music since having gone on to contribute remixes for 'Love From The Sun' and 'Amina' as well as four staggering productions on Jordan's monumental 'See in the Dark' album.
As much of a meeting of the musical minds as this project is, the album undertakes a deeply spiritual exploration on what it is to be human. With songs delving into fear, grief, remorse and love, 'Human' boldly places those character traits under the proverbial microscope and faces them with a sincere and honest openness.
With great pride, we welcome Deborah and Kieron to discuss the album at length as well as their long-standing history of collaborations and their respective approaches to making music.

With a series of stunning singles available in advance of the album's release including 'A Beginning', 'BlindSpot', 'Hewester' and 'Orange Triangle', 'We Aren't Just' is a bold and incredibly enjoyable listen that has long been in the works and provides the perfect platform for Enser's skills amassed from over ten years of creating and performing music.
The episode delves into some of Jonny's meaningful inspirations, the joy of performing, his time as a member of Nubiyan Twist and of course all things related to the creation of the new album.

Welcome to Episode #107 of the Blue-in-Green:PODCAST which this week sees Imran connect with Chris Bestwick and Kishon Khan from Archie the Goldfish.
Headed up by guitarist Bestwick and trumpeter Graeme Flowers, the duo set about this new musical venture during the pandemic lockdown in 2020 resulting in their debut 'Hidden Depths' released through Ropeadope Records that same year. UK-born but now residing in Helsinki, Chris Bestwick boasts an incredible resume that has seen him perform alongside revered names including James Taylor and Ali Slimani as well as creating music as part of the Finnish collective Timeforsoul, not to mention his releases as a solo artist in his own right. Bestwick's credentials are matched by his Archie the Goldfish collaborator, Graeme Flowers, who can not only boast serving as a member of the funk & soul band Down to the Bone but also chalking up performances with the Brand New Heavies and Kyle Eastwood among countless more names.
The sublime five-track, instrumental EP presented some inspired compositions that has since paved the way for even more music under "Archie" umbrella.
Last year's 'Water & Light' EP saw the inclusion of vocalist Nadia Basurto amongst the band's line-up along with the incredibly versatile Kishon Khan on Rhodes and a new label home with the hotbed of global grooves, Funkiwala Records. As co-founder of Funkiwala along with trombonist Justin Thurgur, Khan is a boundlessly talented musician and composer in his own right having performed with an array of artists and bands as well as having released a slew of projects as founder of Lokkhi Terra.

Blue-in-Green:PODCAST_#106_Randa Khamis
Welcome to Episode #106 of the Blue-in-Green:PODCAST which this week sees Imran connect with singer and songwriter, Randa Khamis.
It's incredible to think that Randa and The Soul Kingdom's debut, self-titled album was released as far back as 2009. Still sounding as fresh and innovative now as it did upon first release, Randa Khamis led the charge with a personality-driven, powerhouse vocal. Backed by an all-star cast whose initial iteration featured Lance Ferguson (Menagerie, The Bamboos) on guitar and Ivan Khatchoyan (Cookin on 3 Burners, The Traffic) on drums, Randa and The Soul Kingdom went on to steal hearts of funk & soul fans the world over through dare-you-to-sit-still tracks like 'Feel It In Your Soul', 'Not Gonna Let You' and 'Lysistrata's Quest'.
With two albums released through the revered Freestyle Records, this year marks the tenth year since the band's last album release and excitingly offers a thrilling reinvention of their sound. With the release of the collective's third full-length album, 'Put Your Hands Up' presents Randa's inimitable vocal with broader soundscapes that dabble within the realms of classic rhythm'n'blues, 60s psychedelic soul and blazing funk & soul numbers.
We hope you enjoy this episode where we discuss Randa's past releases, the serendipitous set of circumstances that kick-started her career as well as the brand new album, 'Put Your Hands Up'.

Welcome to Episode #101 of the Blue-in-Green:PODCAST which sees Imran and Rhonda catch something of an impromptu conversation to discuss their respective Covid situations from different parts of the world and, on a more positive note, to discuss Rhonda's visit to the 2021 Monterey Jazz Festival.
The conversation between Imran and Rhonda was actually the prelude to the actual conversation which was to be recorded for the 90s State of Mind podcast and would have seen the duo record delve into Brandy's self-titled debut album. You can catch that conversation, as well as other 90s album discussions, at 4ever in Electric Dreams:

And seeing as this is the final podcast before Christmas, we thought we'd inject an element of the festive season into the episode by housing Blue-in-Green's first play of Majamisty TriO's new Christmas single, 'The Days of Cakes and Christmas Trees'.
From Novi Sad, Serbia, the piano-led trio make a welcome return with the affectionate and warm compositions that have endeared the Majamisty TriO to listeners the world over. Their genuinely incomparable ability to create music that straddles the rarely-visited space between contemporary jazz and classical music has made past releases 'Mistyland', 'LOVE' and 'Organic' genuine treasures.
Lots to get through in today's episode so we hope you enjoy the show.

Blue-in-Green:PODCAST_#100_Leona Berlin
Welcome to Episode #100 of the Blue-in-Green:PODCAST which sees Imran secure time with singer, songwriter and producer, Leona Berlin.
With her self-titled debut album initially released in 2018, Leona Berlin's neo-soul rooted take on contemporary R&B was spearheaded by some fantastic tracks including 'Thinking About You' (featuring Casey Benjamin), 'Walking', 'Cruel' and an excellent cover of Prince's 'Nothing Compares To You'. A real pleasure of a release but one that may very well be bettered by Berlin herself if the run-up of singles gearing towards her sophomore album 'Change' are anything to go by. Currently boasting the singles 'Feminine Energy', 'Too Good' and 'Who You Are', Leona's music has always demonstrated her charm and distinct personality, representative of an ever-evolving artist.
During this episode, we talk to Leona about the new album 'Change', the singles leading up to the release, the lost art of the album, past collaborators and a look back to Leona's debut album of three years ago.

Blue-in-Green:PODCAST_#99_Alex Hitchcock
Welcome to Episode #99 of the Blue-in-Green:PODCAST which sees Imran secure time with saxophonist and composer, Alex Hitchcock.
As well as serving as a member of numerous projects including Resolution 88 and AuB, Hitchcock's role as a band leader has led to some fantastic pieces of music and now, with his second release with the revered Spanish label Fresh Sound New Talent, Hitchcock seems poised to subvert expectations once again with the release of 'Dream Band'.
With the release of 'Dream Band', Hitchcock assembles an inspired line-up of musicians to comprise his own dream band. With artists including Cherise Adams-Burnett, Joe Downard, Will Barry, Luisito Quintero and Midori Jaeger amongst a host of others, and recorded in London over the course of three days with the band arrangements mixed up for each session, the end results of this album must serve as a wholly satisfying experience for Hitchcock - hand-picking a range of fifteen world class artists whose talents each hold personal significance and being able to establish the artistic course for a project that is built around discussion, trust and open collaboration must all result in a career high for Hitchcock.
During this episode, we talk to Alex about 'Dream Band', the project's collaborators, his role within Resolution 88 and AuB, live performances and jazz today.

In Focus ::: Q-Sounds Recording; mixed by Christelle Amoussou and Ludovic Bors
In an episode that first aired 16th October 2021, Blue-in-Green:RADIO was overjoyed to broadcast an episode of their In Focus record label series celebrating the catalogue of Q-Sounds Recording.
Founded in 2009, Q-Sounds is an independent funk & soul label who can boast a veritable treasure trove of contemporary gems from an inspired roster of vocalists and musicians. Calling Seine Saint-Denis their home, the label that thrives off of that quintessential analog sound was set up by Ludovic Bors and Chris Thomas who have strived to present some of France's brightest stars in today's revered scene.
Bolstered by a dream team of acts including The Supertights, The VOGS, Lisa Melissa & the Mess, Principles of Joy, Little Clara, Laura Llorens & The Shadows of Love, The Adelians plus much more, Q-Sounds Recordings have earned the right to have their music cited in the same conversation as any of the forerunners of today's soul music scene.
This episode of In Focus serves as a fantastic introduction to the label's phenomenal releases with a 2-hour selection prepared by the Q-Sounds team themselves showcasing some of their classics along some stunning exclusives.
A massive thank you to Christelle Amoussou and Ludovic Bors for this incredible episode celebrating Q-Sound's monumental releases!

Welcome to Episode #98 of the Blue-in-Green:PODCAST which sees Imran and Rhonda dive into the latest project from The Purple Majesty himself 'Welcome 2 America'.
Amongst the swathe of P releases to see the light of day since his passing, 'Welcome 2 America' holds the distinction of being the first full-length album to be released as originally intended. Shelved by the artist himself, inexplicably, for 11 years, Sony/Legacy bring the project to peoples' attention. Hailed for its sometimes harsh assessment of contemporary America, the thoughts and views expressed throughout are just as relevant today as they were 11 years ago.
Join in the conversation to hear us discuss why we love the album as much as we do, why we feel the posthumous releases have just nailed it every time and what we'd love to see tackled by the Estate next. Also, this conversation took place in September - it was supposed to take place in August but Rhonda was unavailable due to plans to see Vanilla Ice in concert so you definitely want to hear her explanation for that comment if nothing else :)

Blue-in-Green:PODCAST_#97_Kathy Kosins
Welcome to Episode #97 of the Blue-in-Green:PODCAST which sees Imran secure time with Detroit's own, Kathy Kosins.
With six solo albums to her name, the singer, songwriter and producer boasts such an incredible music career that charts back to early recording sessions with the revered bass guitarist Michael Henderson, Was (Not Was) and Gene Dunlap. Having performed all over the world, Kosins solo career has seen immeasurable success with her most recent full-length 'Uncovered Soul' (released in 2018) embraced by entirely new markets with its dance and house-orientated remixes courtesy of Simbad, Gilles Peterson and OPOLOPO.

Blue-in-Green:PODCAST_#96_Matt Wilde
Welcome to Episode #96 of the Blue-in-Green:PODCAST which sees Imran secure time with pianist and producer, Matt Wilde.
Released through Root Records/DeepMatter, Wilde's debut four-track EP - 'Believe in Things' - delivers as a wonderful response to events of the last year, while also serving as a project indicative of Manchester's booming hub of beats-inspired productions. From its celebration of diverse club culture, hip-hop, dance and electronica, Manchester has long been at the forefront of an open-minded approach to music. And it's a perspective shared by Wilde and wonderfully realised by the producer and musician.
'Believe in Things' boasts intricately woven, multi-textured compositions that celebrate hip-hop's influence on contemporary UK jazz. Having been surrounded by strong hip-hop influences for years, Wilde's affection for the piano eventually grew following introductions to jazz and the music of revered Miles Davis collaborator Bill Evans, jazz-funk legend Herbie Hancock and "American classical music" icon Ahmad Jamal. The fusion of the two worlds was the union that made sense, particularly in light of the tracks presented on 'Believe in Things'.
We're thrilled to have secured time with Matt to discuss the 'Believe in Things' EP, the creative process, signing with Root Records and what comes next.

Blue-in-Green:PODCAST_#95_Carol C
Welcome to Episode #95 of the Blue-in-Green:PODCAST which sees Imran & La Molly secure time with singer, songwriter, producer and DJ, Carol C.
Perhaps most notably serving as the lead vocalist and co-founder of Si*Sé - the New York-based band were revered for their unique ability to effortlessly present their music as an amalgamation and fusion of various styles from hip-hop, dub, Latin rhythms and down-tempo electronica. With two full-length releases to their name - 'Si*Sé' (2001) and 'More Shine' (2005) - along two accompanying EPs, Si*Sé had amassed a devoted following due to their progressive and visionary approach to music-making.
Carrying those exciting elements into her subsequent projects, Carol's awesome résumé boasts collaborations with a dynamic selection of talent including Gitkin, Atropolis, Nickodemus and finds her currently performing and recording with the Pimps of Joytime. Produced alongside Justin Filmer and mastered by Bob Power, Carol C's debut solo outing came in the form of 'Seven' in 2019 and once again sees the indelible artist redefine expectations through a scintillating seven-track selection.
With great excitement, we have the opportunity to sit down with Carol C to discuss 'Seven', her time with Si*Sé and the fact their debut album reaches the milestone of turning 20 next month, the music-making process and we delve in to many of her incredible successes across a glittering career.
And as mentioned at the top of this write-up, the episode is bolstered even more by the presence of La Molly from the Super Sonido Show making the episode all the more special.

Blue-in-Green:PODCAST_#94_As Valet & LaNote
Welcome to Episode #94 of the Blue-in-Green:PODCAST which sees Imran secure time with Futuristica Music recording artists, As Valet and LaNote.
With so much personal history for each intertwined with the label - dating back to 2007 with the release of the Parisian future soul quartet Electric Conversation's debut album - it's a fitting turn of events that sees the former EC members return to the fold during the label's fifteen year celebrations to release solo projects serving as awesome extensions to the Electric Conversation legacy.
As Valet's 'Virgo Stellar' presents a stunning ten-track album that steers the versatile DJ/producer away from recent instrumental hip-hop compositions towards a decidedly more electronic and future soul presentation featuring vocals throughout the album by LaNote and J.Mcfysian. LaNote's 'Rebirth' from earlier this year marks the artist's debut solo project with production courtesy of As Valet whose beat-tape style, use of lush samples, hip-hop inspired production and soulful aesthetic makes this an incredible return for LaNote's unmistakable delivery.
With great excitement, we have the opportunity to sit down with As Valet and LaNote to discuss both projects, the music-making process, Futuristica Music and what's next.

Blue-in-Green:PODCAST_#90_Sunim Koria
Welcome to Episode #90 of the Blue-in-Green:PODCAST which sees Imran secure time with musician and producer, Sunim Koria.
The release of Koria's debut album scheduled for the end of this month comes with great excitement seeing as it is the culmination of a 16 year journey. Inspired by the pioneering efforts of those glorious early broken beat acts like Silhouette Brown and Kaidi Tatham, Sunim's 'Ecstasy and the Apple Tree' is an excellent fusion of a variety of styles and influences - very much a love letter not just to that era of music but to the period that inspired his passion in the first instance.
Put together with the help of fifteen friends and musicians, it really is our pleasure to have secured time with Sunim at this incredible point in the album's journey. We discuss the album's creation, influences and life as an independent musician navigating the digital realm of marketing.

As part of Futuristica's 15 year celebrations, a number of albums from their revered catalogue have been announced as being subject to having exclusive reissues prepared. With some fantastic releases scheduled for this year, the label kicked things off with Marc Rapson's 'Dark vs Light' - originally released as a seven track project back in 2010, 'Dark vs Light' finds itself bumped up to a thirteen track expanded edition featuring additional songs born of those recording sessions.
Beyond the reissue of 'Dark vs Light', Rapson has been responsible for so many of Futuristica's most cherished tracks over the years. Blue-in-Green:PODCAST_#88_Magro
Welcome to Episode #88 of the Blue-in-Green:PODCAST which sees Imran secure time with Berlin-based drummer and producer, Magro.
The release of Magro's debut full-length, 'Trippin', would have come as exciting news for listeners having been hooked on the artist's music since his releases dating back to 2019. Over the course of several singles, Magro introduced his distinctive style - an inspired fusion of jazz, hip-hop and neo-soul - as an extraordinary voice amidst a continually thriving scene. While still boasting that indelible vision when it comes to composition, 'Trippin' confidently takes those elements to the next level with a bolder and, at times, broader landscape.

Blue-in-Green:PODCAST_#87_Rico Garofalo of Lasperanza
Welcome to Episode #87 of the Blue-in-Green:PODCAST which sees Imran secure time with saxophonist, musician and producer, Rico Garofalo of Lasperanza.
With his debut record, 'Seeds', released on the revered Dome Records back in 2019, our conversation looks back at the album two years later along with the recently released footage of the album's accompanying performance from The Hideaway in the summer of that year. 'Seeds' serves as a genuine treasure from Dome's hallowed catalogue and along with the footage of The Hideaway performance, the album finds itself further bolstered this year by the revisiting of Gwen Guthrie's 'It Should Have Been You'. Featuring a great vocal from Izzy Chase, Garofalo updates the rousing soul number from 'Seeds' presenting the track through an entirely different aesthetic - boasting a tinge of Roy Ayers and a tinge of 70s-style jazz-funk, the aptly-entitled Sunrise Mix provides a worthy extension for the incredible ground work established by 'Seeds'.

Blue-in-Green:PODCAST_#86_Joe Pignato (of Bright Dog Red)
Welcome to Episode #86 of the Blue-in-Green:PODCAST which sees Imran secure time with Bright Dog Red drummer and founder, Joe Pignato.
The improvisational jazz collective from Albany, New York, are set to release their fourth album with Ropeadope Records - a fantastic live set recorded in November 2020 at Shapeshift Lab studios which sees its official release June 2021. Entitled 'In Vivo', the live and improvised set gives wonderful insight to how Bright Dog Red create music in this context and it's genuinely a thrilling set.
The band's debut album, ‘Means To the Ends’ (Ropeadope Records, 2018), served as a fascinating introduction to BDR’s incomparable concoction of improvised jazz boldly mixing with elements of hip-hop and electronica; their follow-up record, 'How's By You?', would come as soon as the following year and incredibly seemed to plunge the band deeper within its own creation of psychedelic electronica but still managing to see them soar under these even more extreme conditions. 'Somethin' Comes Along' (2020) saw BDR revisit the rule book once again for a two-disc album showcasing some stunning compositions brought to life by an awesome line-up of musicians.
Imran caught up with Joe Pignato to discuss 'In Vivo', the day of recording at Shapeshifter, Joe's production moniker of u.joe and what's next for Bright Dog Red.

Welcome to Episode #83 of the Blue-in-Green:PODCAST which sees Imran connect with Deborah Jordan and Simon S of Sun Circle.
With the release of Sun Circle's new 'Life Stories' EP, it is with great pleasure that we've been able to secure time with both Deborah and Simon to discuss the fantastic new release. Futuristica Music has long been a beacon for contemporary, future- and nu-soul music - the label's inspired vision has been established by a range of projects that embody that ethos over the course of the label's 15 incredible years.
Sun Circle's debut full-length 'Reborn' helped to cement that vision and it's a thrill that 12 years later, the duo can inspire all over again with Simon's atmospheric and ethereal production paired with the typically extraordinary vocal of Futuristica's First Lady.
During the episode, we discuss the origins of the Sun Circle project, the 'Reborn' album from 2009, the collaborative process between the two, how the timing was right for the new EP, some general Futuristica musings and discussion and we have another look back at the year since Deborah's 'See in the Dark' was released and everything that album has gone on to achieve.

Blue-in-Green:PODCAST_#82_LaNote
Welcome to Episode #82 of the Blue-in-Green:PODCAST which sees Imran connect with Paris-based singer, songwriter and producer, LaNote.
'Rebirth' marks the brand new album release from vocalist and producer LaNote marking her return to the Futuristica fold. Courtesy of her efforts as part of the Parisian quartet, Electric Conversation, LaNote's name will forever be etched into the annals of Futuristica Music's history but with the label now celebrating their fifteenth year of releasing music, her official return makes the year all that more special.
With production on the album courtesy of Electric Conversation partner, As Valet, and a bonus disc including remixes by revered names including aCatCalledFritz, Simon S, DJ Spinna and others, the project's beat-tape style, use of lush samples, hip-hop inspired production and soulful aesthetic makes this an incredible return for LaNote.
LaNote discusses the circumstances around the album's creation, the theme of 'rebirth' that runs throughout the project and those early days as part of Electric Conversation.

Blue-in-Green:PODCAST_#81_Misery Loves Company 'The Hero's Journey'
Welcome to Episode #81 of the Blue-in-Green:PODCAST which sees Imran flying solo for the third in his Misery Loves Company series.
This episode sees the podcast embrace the concept of The Hero's Journey - through wide-ranging discussions and examples we explore the concept using Joseph Campbell's 17-step template of stories that involve a hero who goes on an adventure, is victorious in a decisive crisis, and comes home changed or transformed. And that's just as a starting point. From there, we explore soundtracks created for movies that don't exist and, even more niche than that, soundtracks created for video games that don't exist. There's a lot to unpack for this episode and it's a real joy to do so so join us on our own journey through music.

Blue-in-Green:PODCAST_#80_Shola Adisa-Farrar
Welcome to Episode #80 of the Blue-in-Green:PODCAST which sees Imran connect with Brooklyn-based singer and songwriter, Shola Adisa-Farrar.
Following the release of 'Lost Myself' in 2016, listeners were introduced to the indelible talents of Adisa-Farrar as her beautifully presented debut record partnered her with Florian Pellissier and his Quintet. Released through the "afro soul & tropical funk label", Hot Casa Records, the album was an exquisite take on contemporary jazz and thrived from its gentle amalgamation of styles and influences - from tinges of reggae and hip-hop to respectful nods towards icons like Herbie Hancock and Nina Simone.
'Lost Myself' remains a rare treasure still and an exciting launch-pad towards the artist that Shola continues to evolve into. With the years in the interim taken up by extensive touring and performances that have seen the artist grace stages in the US, France, Mauritius, Ethiopia and Jamaica - this year marks an exciting return to the forefront as a slew of new music is scheduled so far resulting in the singles 'Lately' and 'Feel Immortalised', and the upcoming EP with producers, The Hogstad Brothers.
Shola Adisa-Farrar presents a distinct warmth and charm into her music that is infectious. Driven by her unwavering passion and commitment to her craft, her journey is genuinely thrilling to watch unfold. This week we have the pleasure of Shola's company and we discuss life as an independent artist during such extraordinary times, performing overseas, maintaining creativity during quarantine and, of course, her full range of new music.

With his sophomore album release due out in March 2021 through the independent Netherlands-based label, ZenneZ Records, Sam Newbould and his Amsterdam-based Quintet follow-up '2019's 'Blencathra' in spectacular fashion.
'Bogus Notus' seeks its inspiration from Newbould's years growing up in the Yorkshire Dales. It's an album that strives to capture the stark contrast of these beautiful surroundings while also addressing the somewhat harsh restrictions that come along with them. With his roots now firmly in place within Amsterdam, Newbould has solidified his position amongst a thriving musical soundscape with no shortage of world-class talent in which to surround himself with.
This episode sees Sam delve in to the excellent 'Bogus Notus', discuss Amsterdam's incredible and diverse jazz scene, how quarantine life has been over the last year and also delve into the importance, as an independent artist, of using the internet and social media to your advantage.

With her debut album due for release later this month through the UK's revered future soul label, Futuristica Music, Georgie Sweet's 'Misunderstood' is a versatile, confident and self-assured album serving as a genuine highlight for an already fantastic year in music for Futuristica. Having initially come up under the guidance of the inimitable Deborah Jordan, the boundless talents of Georgie Sweet have actually been bubbling away on Futuristica for a couple of years now having chalked up scene-stealing guest appearances on DJ Simon S's 'Music 4 Alternative Souls' (2018) and later how own solo singles 'Here' and 'Sorry', paving the way for the 'Misunderstood' full-length.

Her natural versatility as a vocalist, creative penmanship and her overall presentation make her such a natural fit for Futuristica so it's with great pleasure that we're able to secure time with Georgie to discuss the new album, developing the art of songwriting and having the fantastic Deborah Jordan and Simon S as musical mentors.

Blue-in-Green:PODCAST_#64_Joe Pignato (Bright Dog Red)
Welcome to Episode #64 of the Blue-in-Green:PODCAST which sees Imran secure time with Bright Dog Red drummer and founder, Joe Pignato.
The improvisational jazz collective from Albany, New York, are set to release their third album in three years with Ropeadope Records. With their debut album, ‘Means To the Ends’ (Ropeadope Records, 2018), serving as a fascinating introduction to the band’s incomparable concoction of improvised jazz boldly mixed with elements of hip-hop and electronica, their follow-up record, ‘How’s By You?’, would come as soon as the following year. While Bright Dog Red’s debut masterfully dabbled within these different genres and styles, ‘How’s By You?’ incredibly seemed to plunge the band deeper within its own creation of psychedelic electronica but still managed to see them soar under these even more extreme conditions. 'Somethin’ Comes Along’ sees Bright Dog Red revisit the rule book once again for a two-disc album showcasing some stunning compositions brought to life by an awesome line-up of musicians.
Imran caught up with Joe Pignato to discuss the new album, releasing - and making - music during quarantine and all things Bright Dog Red.

"So, uh, what ARE you?" is probably the most frequently asked question of Denver based music lover La Molly. Like many Latinx people, La Molly has been on a search for what, or rather, who she is her whole life. Having grown up rather rootless La Molly turned to music and the Super Sonido Show. This radio show explores the blending of traditional sounds such as cumbia, champeta and Andean folklorico with modern technology and digital sounds, music that mirrors the identity search of many in the Latinx community. How can we both hold tight to our traditions and be present in modern society? The Super Sonido Show aims to provide the soundtrack to that question.

Never one to enjoy only one type of music, my interests change like the seasons, shifting from funk and soul, to house and techno, to hip-hop and jazz, to disco and Latin.

Blue-in-Green:RADIO presents... "4 Corners: FEAR"
Very excited to announce Episode #2 of Blue-in-Green:RADIO's new series '4 Corners' as we pull together four of the BinG team from different parts of the world to tackle a single theme which aired 1st October 2019.
The rules are simple - 4 Blue-in-Green:RADIO presenters, each with 30 minutes to explore a one-word theme in any way they see fit. And for our second episode, through music, the team is tackling the concept of FEAR.
We often boast about how proud we are to host shows from all over the world so helping us to explore FEAR today is Vahé Vishapakagh Koshayan (presenter of CONFESSIONS OF A CURLY MIND from Melbourne, Australia), Imran Mirza (presenter of the Blue-in-Green Sessions from London, UK), Sean Sophiea (presenter of Raw Select Music from Niigata, Japan), and Molly Gallegos (presenter of the Super Sonido Show from Denver, Colorado).

Welcome to Episode #27 of the Blue-in-Green:PODCAST which sees Imran catch up with BinG team member, Sean Sophiea.
Based in Niigata, Japan, Sean presents Raw Select Music every Wednesday on Blue-in-Green:RADIO and for this episode we hear about Sean sharing the bill on club nights with Tall Black Guy and Toshio Matsuura, playing out live versus a radio recording and the usual dalliances into the realms of contemporary jazz and instrumental hip-hop.
"Part time DJ. Part time record collector. Full time music lover just trying to shed more light on the less recognized, more obscure side of music. Never one to enjoy only one type of music, my interests change like the seasons, shifting from funk and soul, to house and techno, to hip-hop and jazz, to disco and Latin.
The one thing you can expect from my shows is that they're gonna have a little bit of everything on them. Hopefully you enjoy them."

For this episode, we delve into the catalogue of jazz trumpeter's off-shoot jazz-funk project, The RH Factor.
www.blueingreenradio.com
November 2nd 2018 marked the sad passing of trumpeter, composer, band leader - Roy Hargrove. The Texan native, under the initial turorage of Wynton Marsalis, released his first album in 1990 and was just as adept at playing in trios as he was commanding a big band or an orchestra.
Signing to the legendary Verve Records in 1994, Hargrove won his first Grammy in 1998 for his Afro-Cuban project 'Habana' but it was his work with contemporary soul and hp-hop artists including D'Angelo ('Voodoo'), Erykah Badu ('Mama's Gun') and Common ('Like Water For Chocolate') that really introduced his work to a new generation. His offshoot project, The RH Factor, inspired by these collaborations say him venture into the world of jazz-funk through the releases 'Hard Groove' (2003), 'Strength' (2004) and 'Distractions' (2006).
The projects were brought to life through a wide selection of musicians and vocalists including Renee Neufville, Pino Palladino, James Poyser, Meshell Ndegeocello, D'Angelo, Q-Tip, Erykah Badu, Anthony Hamilton, Stephanie McKay, amongst many others.
The importance of projects like Hargrove's RH Factor really can't be over-stated: while many can sometimes feel that jazz may not be as accessible as other forms of music, crossover and fusion projects like these do wonders in introducing jazz to a wider audience.
