Throwing Away Her Entire Wardrobe at 17 - Modesty with Joana Sosa

Have you been feeling a nudge towards dressing more modestly but don’t know where to even start? We often overcomplicate modesty while failing to see the heart behind it. The way we dress and carry ourselves as women of God is an outward expression of inward transformation. In today’s episode Milena sits down with Joana Sosa, a modest fashion influencer who has been instrumental in helping Milena embrace a modest wardrobe by proving that modesty can still be stylish! Joana shares her journey from intentionally showing off her body in revealing clothing, to throwing away her entire wardrobe at 17, and how she truly encountered God right in the midst of it all. We all have to start somewhere and we pray this episode is a starting point for many women to embrace the beautiful call to modesty from the inside out.

Honoring Toxic Parents

“What if my parents aren’t deserving of honor?” “You don’t know what they did to me!” You’re right. We don’t know your exact story and we’re not claiming to. The truth is our parents will not always be deserving of honor. And yet the truth is we’re called to honor them anyway. In this episode we publicly acknowledge the mistakes that we’ve made regarding honoring our own parents and what honoring them can look like practically speaking. There’s a promise attached to this biblical mandate and our God always keeps His promises. When the world screams “cut them off!” and “never speak to them again!” God’s word says “honor them” and “pray for them”. We pray this episode is an encouragement and a reminder that the redeeming grace of God is truly our only hope.

Stop Letting Other Kids Raise Your Kids

Who has the most influence over your children? Whose voice does your child value the most? As parents, we’d love to think it was us, but more often than not, it’s actually other children. Peer-centered settings in school, church, sports, and extracurriculars have created an environment where our kids are solely around children their age for the vast majority of their days. What’s the problem with this? Kids are unable to raise kids. Duetronomy 6 and numerous scriptures demonstrate that it’s the duty of parents and elders to properly raise their children— not the tv, not cellphones, and definitely not other kids. Join us as we share our strategies to combat this and what we’ve implemented along the way!

We Can't Keep Outsourcing Our Kids' Education

How can we expect our children to have a biblical worldview and know their identity according to God's word when they're so influenced by the world? Why is it so weird that parents want to actually have a say in the education of their children? Christian parents are often told we're "indoctrinating" our kids, yet as we continue our "world vs. word" series, in this epsiode we explore the idea that it's *all* indoctrination. Public school, home school, higher education, etc. all have an agenda and an end goal in mind. For us, our goal is simple- to follow the example given in the Scriptures and teach our children the word of God.We created an app! Dear Parents, the World is Lying to You.

Continuing our World vs. Word series, today’s “hot take” is God’s original design for raising children. When we look at the Scriptures we see how much emphasis God places on family, yet when we look at our society today we see more and more people choosing to delay starting their families or even opting to not have children at all. Our hearts behind today’s episode is to get back to the significance of why strong families are still important and desperately needed. Our children need Biblically sound parenting, but more importantly they need Jesus.

Family Vision and Mission

Hey friends! We are thrilled to hear your feedback from last week’s episode, and how so many of you are thinking and feeling the same as we are regarding the need to take an objective look at the world around us. As we delve into our series on opting out of the ways of the world, we—like you—desire to re-examine our approach to things like marriage, raising kids, and finances in light of everything happening in the world around us. Of course, there’s no better foundation to start with than the Scriptures and how God envisioned the meaning and purpose for family from the very beginning. Genesis 1:27-28 serves as the origination point for how we can think about making changes in our family for the better, and how we can opt into what God has called us to. In this episode, we will share our thoughts as well as some rich insights from our friends Jeremy Pryor and Jeff Bethke from Family Teams. Be sure to check out their website, podcast, and resources for more content that has inspired this podcast tremendously!

Opting Out of the World’s Systems

Hey friends! Have you felt that it is becoming increasingly difficult in our world today to raise children in the way of the Lord and seek to live out the Scriptures in a practical way? We shouldn’t be surprised by this, as we are told throughout the Bible that we are in a spiritual battle and that we who know Jesus are “in the world but no longer of the world.” Still it seems that we are highly under-resourced, or simply not even having the conversations we ought to be having about what we should do in light of this reality. Over the next few weeks, we are going to share some ideas regarding how we plan to implement a God-honoring approach to raising our kids in 2024 and beyond. We want to preface by saying that with this approach comes the likelihood of opting out of certain systems or ways of thinking that have become commonly accepted and considered standard—even for many Christians. We are simply opening the door for conversation and not shying away from asking questions like “why do we do things in *this* way?” or “Should we do something different instead?” If you’ve felt the same or are considering your own options, we welcome you to join us as we unpack this new mini series and we welcome your feedback and insight also!Thank you to Caden Lane for sponsoring this episode! Stop Parenting Your Children

Hey friends! This week’s episode is probably going to be a spicy one, but necessary. We want to encourage our listeners who have children how important your role as a mother or a father are in your child’s life. Confusion around the specific roles and identity of mother and father in our world today has caused a ripple effect to our children. It’s our desire to revert to an ancient, Biblical model of raising children and have a discussion around just how vital fathers and mothers are. If you’ve ever felt inconsequential to your child in your role, think again! God has made you (and no one else) the mother or father of your children for a specific purpose. Please do not take that fact for granted. If you are not yet a mom or a dad, there are many ways you can spiritually father or mother others who are younger than you who desperately need your encouragement and fellowship. If you are a single mom or dad who is seeking to honor the Lord in the way you raise your children, please know the Lord has a very special place for you in His heart. Your ability to live in such a super-human way ought to be celebrated, never shamed! Let us know your thoughts in the comments and how the Lord has called you to care for your children either biological, adopted, fostered, or spiritual.

Teaching Your Children The Gospel

Hey friends! On today’s show, we are discussing some practical ways to implement rhythms of instilling Biblical truths in your household from the time your kids are very little all the way through their young adult years. The Bible tells us that when we train up children in the way of the Lord, they will not depart from it when they are older (proverbs 22:6). And when Jesus was asked about the heavenly kingdom, he took a child and said “the Kingdom of Heaven belongs to such as these” (Matthew 19:14). Little children have a special place in God’s heart, and he has entrusted us as parents and guardians to care for them in the same way the Lord cares for us. Let us know what you found helpful in the comments below! We are also excited to officially announce to our AFM+MH family a special project we’ve been working on called “Bible Stories for Kids” app! If you want a screen-free, immersive audio experience for your children that can be played at home, in the car, or as your child is being lulled to sleep, this is the app for you! Why We're Not Celebrating Halloween

Hey friends! As we pivot slightly away from our most recent series on the Spirit Realm, we thought a discussion on Halloween is both timely and relevant to what we've been discussing previously. While we both grew up trick or treating, dressing in costumes, and even going to ghost and ghoul-themed parties, our perspective on how we choose to observe Halloween has shifted greatly since becoming parents and journeying with the Lord in recent times. While we do not seek to pass judgment or condemn anyone who doesn't see eye to eye with us on this topic, we do desire to share our thoughts and convictions on why we are choosing to not celebrate Halloween and what we are still trying to figure out ourselves. The Spirit Realm Part VIII: Post-Flood Nephilim

Last week we examined some of the discussions surrounding the first-generation Nephilim and what the ancient historical records mention about their reign of terror in the antediluvian (pre-flood) world. This week, we are discussing the post-flood return of the Nephilim and looking at some theories surrounding how they came to be. Regardless of how exactly they reappeared after the flood, we know they were found all throughout the Tanakh/Hebrew Bible/Old Testament, and God had good reason for ordering Israel to wipe them out. When one begins to unpack the extent of corruption that was happening on the earth in those days, it is easy to see how sending a worldwide flood to destroy everything was actually an act of mercy by God on behalf of His "true" creation. Tune in to hear more on this and we encourage you to weigh in by leaving us a comment below on your thoughts!

Hey fam! We hope you enjoyed the last episode featuring the Alexanders, but we are also very excited to pick back up with our conversation on the Spirit Realm! The Spirit Realm Part V: The Seed War (Continued)

Well, we wish we could say we are surprised that we had to make a part 2 to this topic, but we aren't (LOL), and if you've been around here for a while, you know we can be long-winded on things. The depth of the subject matter doesn't help with how much there is to cover in only so much time, but we hope our excitement and passion for the Bible makes your time invested with us worthwhile! We are picking back up on the Genesis 6 events in today's show as a continuation of last week's discussion. We are far from over on this series, and by the looks of it, y'all are here for it! The Spirit Realm Part IV: The Seed War

Ok y'all, buckle up. If you've been intrigued by the content in this mini-series thus far (which is the overwhelming majority) then get ready to go even deeper with us today. So far, we've taken a look at the first rebellion which happened in the Garden of Eden, but now we are going to examine the second rebellion, which we are calling "The Seed War" because of the prophecy God proclaimed to satan after Adam and Eve ate from the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil, and fell into sin. Among other judgements, God told the serpent, "I will put enmity between your seed and the woman's seed. You will bruise his heel, but he will crush your head," (Gen. 3:15). Did you catch that? Who's seed will have their head crushed? The serpent. You mean the devil will have offspring? It would appear this is the case when one takes the Scriptures seriously and at what it says. So if you're the serpent receiving that prophecy, what would you do in order to prevent the seed of the woman from crushing your head? You'd try to wipe out the seed who comes from Eve, right? Well, after Adam and Eve are driven out of the Garden, their sons Cain and Abel are born. It's logical to believe that the devil used/influenced Cain (the ungoldy) to kill his brother, Abel (the godly). This would accomplish the devil's plan of preventing his head being crushed--or so he thought. With Abel killed and Cain having blood on his hands, Adam and Eve have another son (Seth) and the promise God made is preserved through the line of Seth. But that doesn't mean Satan and his fallen angels don't stop trying to wipe out the seed of the woman. This is where we pick up today's discussion surrounding the events that took place leading up to the flood of Noah. We are so glad you're here!

The Spirit Realm Part III: The Serpent

Welcome back for another installment of our series on the spiritual realm! If you are new to the show, welcome! You might want to check out the previous episodes in this series, as they build onto one another each week. So far the response has been overwhelmingly positive, and we are so glad y’all are enjoying this particular topic! It has been a blast for us to research and take a dive into this very interesting subject matter. This week we will examine the fall that took place in the Garden of Eden when the serpent tempted Eve. What’s really going on in this story, and what might’ve we missed in Sunday school? How can understanding this rebellion in its context help us know our Bible and know the Lord better? We are so glad you’re here, and hope you enjoy our take on this account from Genesis 3!

Understanding the Spirit Realm Part II: The Three Rebellions

If you were to ask a Bible-believing Christian, what the reason for all the evil in the world is, the answer you’ll most likely get is “Adam and Eve giving into temptation by the serpent.” While this is certainly a major part of the story, it is not the full answer. In today’s episode, we are continuing in our series on the spirit realm by taking a tour through three events detailed in the Bible which scholars have identified as “the three rebellions.” Dr. Michael Heiser is one of the most notable scholars who has done extensive work on the subject in his publications. For more on this topic, please check out his books—namely the Unseen Realm—and his podcast, The Naked Bible podcast. In the coming weeks, we will take a deep dive into each of these rebellions to get a better idea of what happened, why it happened, and how to better understand the world around us today in light of these events. it is an absolute joy and honor for us to study alongside you in these extremely fascinating topics. Lord Bless you!

Understanding the Spiritual Realm Part 1: Intro

Dear AFM+MH Family--It is a joy and honor to bring you our first ever miniseries! It is our hope and prayer that this series builds up over the coming weeks and gets better with every episode to leave you eager for the subsequent episode. And we couldn't think of a better subject to discuss than the Spiritual Realm. Shrouded in mystery and misunderstanding, the Spirit Realm is a widely discussed topic in both the Church and pop culture. But how many of us really understand what's going on in the domain of the supernatural? In this introductory episode, we seek to set the stage for the rest of the series by explaining our motivation to delve into these subjects and where the Church has misunderstood some key elements of God's Word. We are so honored you are along for the ride with us and eager to see where the Lord takes us over the course of this series. Leave us a comment below to let us know your thoughts and what specifics you'd like to see us get into over the coming weeks. Be blessed!Thank you to ReliefBand for sponsoring this episode! The scriptures parse out multiple different kinds or classes of spiritual beings. The following is a list of the various types of beings and at least one scripture reference for where they appear in the Bible. Among the types of Angels (or Messengers of God), we find: Archangels (1 Thess. 4:16; Jude 9), Cherubim (Genesis 3:24; Ezekiel 10:4; Hebrews 9:5), Seraphim (Isaiah 6:2; Revelation 4:8), Fallen Angels (2 Peter 2:4; Jude 6; Revelation 12:7-9), and the Watchers (Daniel 4:13, 17, 23). Additionally, you see further subsets of spiritual beings referenced throughout the Bible, such as: Shedim (Deuteronomy 32:17, Psalm 106:37), Rephaim (Joshua 15:8, 18:16), Nephilim (Genesis 6:4), Principalities/Powers/Rulers of Darkness (Ephesians 6:12). It is our intention to examine some other ancient historic literature which is outside the canon of Scripture, but endorsed or directly quoted by the Biblical authors. It is important to note that while these extra-Biblical books may not be regarded as divinely inspired, that does not mean they aren't helpful in providing important context to help us gain a historical picture of what was going on in their culture and worldview as the Biblical authors wrote. For more on this subject, we refer you to Dr. Michael Heiser in this episode. Dr. Heiser sadly passed away earlier this year, but his legacy for the Kingdom continues on. Let's be students together on this subject and discover some amazing truths in God's Word!

Healing After Miscarriage

Dear friends,Today’s episode is by far the most difficult one we’ve ever done, but it was absolutely needed. Fair warning—this discussion may be triggering if you’ve gone through a miscarriage, but our hope is to offer encouragement to you and your family that God is near to you in your pain. Jesus tells us in Matthew 5:4, “God blesses those who mourn, for they will be comforted.” May you find peace and strength in Jesus Christ who heals all things and will one day wipe every tear from our eyes when we get to heaven. This show is part of the Spreaker Prime Network, if you are interested in advertising on this podcast, contact us at https://www.spreaker.com/show/4867953/advertisement

Thoughts and Prayers: Praying the Scriptures through Adversity

Hey friends—many of you know by now that we are currently walking in the middle of a pretty deep valley. We were expecting our 4th child to be born in late October, but sadly we found out we miscarried and our baby is now with the Lord. While we took several weeks to grieve and mourn, God has wrapped His arms around us and brought us tremendous comfort through His Word, even in spite of the most difficult of seasons we’ve experienced. We will share more about our journey of healing in the next episode later this week, but wanted to share some Scriptures we’ve really clung to during this episode of Thoughts & Prayers. We pray this will serve to bless and comfort you when you experience pain and hurt.Thank you to ReliefBand for sponsoring today’s episode!Go to reliefband.com and use our promo code “myhouse” for 20% off plus free shipping! This show is part of the Spreaker Prime Network, if you are interested in advertising on this podcast, contact us at https://www.spreaker.com/show/4867953/advertisement

Thoughts and Prayers: After You're Convicted

Hello dear friends—thank you so much for joining us on this week’s show. As Christ-followers, we believe one of the most important disciplines we can practice is having a posture of repentance. Even after our conversion to Christ, we still do wrong and succumb to our flesh on the side of heaven. But by God‘s grace, He has already forgiven every sin of ours—past, present, and future. And while that is comforting news, we are to never take advantage of God’s grace as a license to stay stuck in our sinful ways. In this episode, we want to submit to you some steps we personally take in our walk with the Lord after we’ve been convicted by the Holy Spirit. Paul implores us to examine ourselves in the faith, and reminds us that God’s kindness is what leads us to repentance. As His children, we do not fear His discipline and correction, rather, we can boldly approach the Throne of Grace with confidence as we repetitively return to the feet of the cross. This show is part of the Spreaker Prime Network, if you are interested in advertising on this podcast, contact us at https://www.spreaker.com/show/4867953/advertisement

After A Fight With Your Spouse

Hey friends! We are excited to bring you this episode because it hits home for us and no doubt many of you who are married and/or in a serious dating relationship. You don’t have to be together long to experience tension and struggle within your interpersonal dynamics. The good thing is, it is healthy and even at times necessary to work through such issues because it’s part of maturing and growing closer together. In this episode, we go through a recent “fight” we had and share some practical steps you can implement to seek resolution and reconciliation. Ultimately, with Jesus continually at the center of your relationship, there is no conflict too big that a humble heart and attitude of repentance before the Lord cannot resolve. “Above all, keep loving one another earnestly, since love covers a multitude of sins.” - 1 Peter‬ ‭4‬:‭8‬A big thank you to our show sponsors!BetterHelp:Get 10% off your first month at https://www.betterhelp.com/myhouseKiwiCo:Get 50% off your first month plus free shipping on any crate line at https://www.kiwico.com/asformeEarth Breeze:Get 40% off at https://www.earthbreeze.com/myhouse

The Dangers of Gentle Parenting

Hey friends! As you know we have been exploring and researching various approaches to parenting that seem to best reflect the Scriptural instructions given to us by God. For the last couple of years, we’ve been implementing many of the tenants of what is called “gentle parenting.” The term and movement itself if left undefined can be misleading and even unbiblical. In today’s episode, we seek to take the good attributes of gentle parenting into account while “spitting out the bones” of where it goes wrong. Our endgame is to Biblically parent and instruct our children in the way of the Lord, so that when they’re old, they will not depart from it (Proverbs 22:6).A special thank you to today’s sponsors:BetterHelp: Get 10% off your first month at https://BetterHelp.com/myhouseEarth Breeze: Get 40% off at https://EarthBreeze.com/myhouse

Thoughts & Prayers: Sabbath Habits

"The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath." - Jesus in Mark 2:27. Many Christians in the West have lost the Jewishness of our worldview due to being removed by time and physical proximity to the Holy Land. But what if we rediscovered the "why" behind some of the most ancient disciplines of our faith? How might that help us rekindle family time and healthy rhythms? You don't even need to make it a religious or spiritual experience to see the fruit that can be borne out of practicing healthy sabbath habits. We are cautious to not become legalistic or hyper-spiritualized in this discipline, but rather, see it as a way to reorder our priorities. So many of us put rhythms to our work, play, outings, etc., so why not have that same intentionality with our rest? Today, we share some practical things we do to make memories with our family during our Sabbath.

Witnessing to Unsaved Parents featuring Brooklin White

In a perfect world, there is no one who pours into you, cares for you, and invests in enriching your spiritual life more than your parents. We are even told in Deuteronomy 6 exactly how God desires for the family unit to interact together for the glory of God. But what happens when your parents fail in that? Or better yet, what do you do when your family doesn’t grow up knowing Jesus as Lord and Savior, and you are the first one drawn to God? How do you have those conversations with your family after they see a visible change in your life? Milena sits down with her good friend Brooklin to share some of her stories of how she has witnessed to her parents since becoming a follower of Jesus. Should You Stop Spending Time With God?

When you close your eyes and imagine what it looks like to spend time with the Lord, what comes to mind? Are you at church? In your living room reading the Bible? Walking in nature marveling at creation? Singing songs of praise? Thoughts & Prayers - Demystifying Spiritual Gifts

Today's episode is particularly exciting because we are introducing a new segment on the show called Thoughts & Prayers where we ponder audience-provided topics and hold hands in prayer before the Lord. These shorter-form episodes are inspired by emails, direct messages, and comments submitted by all you beautiful people tuning in. On occasion, when we aren't discussing various topics (like Spiritual Gifts) we will devote entire shows to praying specifically for your individual requests in succession. We will accomplish this while also being careful to not use last names or particular information that may give away the identities of those who are entrusting us to pray for them. If you have a "Thought" or "Prayer" you'd like to submit to us, email us at [email protected] or message us on Instagram at @asformeandmyhousepodcast The Lord bless you and keep you!

New Year Same You

Happy 2023 to the AFM+MH family! We missed you all so much and could hardly wait to be back with you. It is our hope that today's show serves as a refreshing encouragement and reminder that regardless of where you are on your New Year's resolution journey, you can find rest, peace, and assurance in Christ Jesus as your foundation for all things. While healthy lifestyle changes are good and noble pursuits, we must remind ourselves that our identity as followers of Jesus is found in knowing Him in relationship, and not in how many books we read or the calories we burn. God redeems us THEN makes us righteous, and then enables us to walk in the good works he has prepared for us. Maybe this is the year to actually stop striving for change by your own willpower and simply surrender to the Holy Spirit to work in and through you for His purposes. May He make that known to you this year.A big thank you to today's sponsors:BetterHelp - Get 10% off your first month at betterhelp.com/myhouseKiwiCo - Get 50% off your first month on any crate line at kiwico.com/asforme

And they were selling their possessions and belongings and distributing the proceeds to all, as any had need. You Are More Than Your Trials Featuring Ezekiel Chapman

Hello dear friends! Today we have a really special show because it features our good friend and brother in the Lord, Ezekiel Chapman, or “Zeke” for short. Zeke has been a family friend of ours for over nearly two decades and has quite a powerful testimony. He was on the show a few years back sharing about his struggles with suicidal thoughts and how Jesus met him where he was and not only saved his life, but his soul too. What We Wish We Knew Sooner: On Marriage

Hello friends! Thanks so much for being here! This episode is the beginning of a new series we are going to implement from time to time on the show called, “What We Wish We Knew Sooner.” The heart behind this segment is to offer encouragement and perspective to those who are perhaps one stage behind us in life and are looking for a more fresh perspective than someone, say, from your parents’ generation. We are in no way saying that it’s a bad thing to go to much older folks for perspective (on the contrary we suggest you DO!), but our motive for this comes from a place in our hearts to mentor those behind us however we can. How to Not Become Jaded

You don't have to live long to experience situations that can leave you hurt, suffering, and ultimately hard-hearted. In this episode, we look at some examples in Scripture of how certain characters handled adversity in a way that honored God when they had every reason to become jaded and bitter. Part of the human experience is going through trials, but thank God He provides us with the power to break free from cynicism and to not hold resentment in our hearts when we are continually wronged. Practicing Hospitality

Hey friends! It's crazy to think this is our 101st episode together!! Since we've hit this milestone, we thought it would be a good idea to re-center one of our As For Me and My House "House Rules" by sharing about ways we implement hospitality to those around us. We specifically titled this episode PRACTICING Hospitality, because it is something that takes time and effort. Even if God has gifted you with a heart to be hospitable, sometimes we get so lost in the presentation or appearance of hospitality that we lose sight of the reason we do it in the first place. Tune in to some of the Scriptural references and our two cents on how we can be people who generously serve and open our homes up to others for the glory of God.A big thank you to today's sponsors!SimpliSafe: Get a free indoor security camera plus 20% off with Interactive Monitoring at simplisafe.com/myhouseOuter: Get $300 off and free shipping at liveouter.com/myhouseBetter Help: Get 10% off your first month at betterhelp.com/myhouseVerse of the Day:"Do not forget to show hospitality to strangers, for by doing so, some have entertained angels without knowing." - Hebrews 13:2

Ways We Meet Each Other’s Needs

Hey, fam! Thank you so much for tuning in! We are honored you’re here, and pray this episode brings some encouragement to you as you navigate what it looks like to serve one another and meet each other’s needs in a relationship. For men, we tend to be more problem-solving-focused and seek to be “Mr. Fix-It” when our significant other wants to be heard and validated more often than not. And for women, we sometimes feel like our significant other doesn’t listen or take what we say to heart, leaving us frustrated and feeling misunderstood. Thankfully, God’s Word gives us principles to adhere to while we discover what it means to serve our spouses and meet their needs. Being Who Your Family Needs You to Be featuring Chad Masters

You asked, and we delivered. Y’all have been loving the Girl Talk segments so much, that you requested a spin-off to feature a man’s perspective on some of these topics of family and marriage as well. So Jordan sat down with one of his good friends, Chad Masters, to share a little perspective on what it means to be intentional in your family’s life as the man of the house. We couldn’t think of a better guest to have on to discuss being who God has called you to be! If you are a guy listening to this, first off—mad props to you for agreeing to watch with your wife/fiancée/girlfriend lol. We pray this episode encourages you to keep seeking the role God would have you play in your family’s lives. And if you are one of the ladies tuning in, we’d love your feedback as well on if we should do a part 2 and/or occasionally cover other topics from a guy’s perspective. Be sure to follow Chad and his wife, Tori on YouTube and Instagram, and tune into their daily devotional podcast, Mornings with the Masters where they share Biblical encouragement and wisdom to help you grow in your devotion to the Lord. Also, keep an eye out for their new show, That’s H.O.T. podcast, where Chad and Tori have Honest, Open, and Transparent conversations with other guests on where faith meets real life. Blessings to you, friends!

Girl Talk: Being Who Your Family Needs You to Be featuring Kirsten Watson

Hey fam! Today’s episode is such a special one! We were honored to have Kirsten Watson join Milena to talk all things family, motherhood, and sometimes needing to slow down to ensure Christ remains central in our lives. As a mom of seven kids, wife of a professional athlete and cohost of a popular podcast, Kirsten is often asked by other women, “How do you do it?” They see her with her hands full and wonder, What keeps her going—and smiling—with everything she’s juggling? Kirsten’s answer begins with a simple first step: take a breath. The second step is also simple: lean in and understand that the Word of God gives us the breath we need to handle every situation because when we inhale God’s Word, we exhale peace. Be on the lookout for Kirsten’s new book—Sis, Take a Breath: Encouragement for the Woman Who’s Trying to Live and Love Well (but Secretly Just Wants to Take a Nap)—available everywhere on May 3rd, 2022.Verse of the Day:“Her children rise up and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her” - Proverbs‬ ‭31:28‬

Replacing Worry with Peace

Did you know that there are 365 instances throughout Bible where we are told not to worry? That’s literally one for every day of the year! It’s as if God gave us daily reasons to trust in Him for our peace and and not in our circumstances. Join us as we unpack some practical application from Scripture about how we can experience “peace that surpasses all understanding.” Also, leave a prayer request in the comments regarding something you are worried/anxious about and we will be praying for you. You're Never Too Far Gone (Melanie's Testimony)

Have you ever thought that you're beyond redemption because of the things you've done? We have, and so has Melanie, our dear sister who joins us today on the podcast to share some of the most vulnerable parts of her life in an effort to obey God's prompting in her life and also as an encouragement to you that you're never beyond redemption. God didn't wait for us to clean ourselves up to save us. Romans 5:8 tells us that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. He couldn't love you more than he already does! If you've been running away from Him towards all the wrong things, call upon Him and He will rescue you. And if you already know the Lord and feel you were once closer to God then you are now, His arms are open and eagerly waiting for your return to Him. Tommy Nelson once said, "You are not as good a sinner as Christ is a savior," and if you need that truth in your life today, then stay tuned for today's episode, and please share it with someone who needs to be encouraged as well. Healthy Friendships, Loneliness, and Top Qualities to Look for in Friends

Thank you for joining us on this special episode, friends! We have been blessed to have built some great relationships with friends who love Jesus and spur us on to love and good works throughout the years. But that doesn’t mean we haven’t experienced seasons of loneliness and hurt from friendships that have come and gone too. Thankfully, we trust the Lord to bring the right people into our lives at the right season, and He is always faithful to do just that. If you are struggling to find the right circle of people to call friends, ask God to begin bringing them into your life and don’t settle. Quality relationships take work and time to build, but we asked you all for some top qualities you look for in friendships, and it was so encouraging to us as we read your responses, so we wanted to share some of them in this episode. How to Rest Well

Hey fam! Thank you for joining us on today’s episode! This topic of resting and allowing time for your body and mind to be refreshed is all too often overlooked in today’s society. With everything being driven by numbers and product output, it is important to remember that there are multiple ways to measure the performance and quality of something. Some of the best seasons of our lives have been the least “exciting,” in that we weren’t trying to grind and hustle so much that we lost the joy our efforts brought us. What does your current season of life look like as far as rest goes? Are you in a good rhythm of rest and labor, or could you (like us) take some steps to balance that better? We hope today’s discussion encourages you and ultimately guides you to find your rest in the Lord Jesus, because he calls us to come to him when we are weary and heavy burdened (Matt. 11:28-30).To find out more about how you can participate in this year’s Operation Christmas Child event, visit SamaritansPurse.org/occGet 50% off you first month plus FREE shipping on any crate line with code “asforme”at kiwico.comGet 40% off your entire home security system at simplisafe.com/myhouseGet 10% your first month of services at BetterHelp.com/myhouseFollow us on IG:@asformeandmyhousepodcast@milenaciciotti @jordanciciottiSubscribe to As For Me and My House Podcast and Milena’s Channel on YouTubeJoin our Facebook Group: As For Me and My House PodcastA loving environment to talk all things podcast, share prayer requests and praise reports! GIRL TALK: Being Set Apart & Single On A Secular Campus // Chats with my good friend Alia

This week’s podcast episode focuses on various practical ways to break out of a dry season spiritually. The important thing to remember as Christians is that we don’t have to rush God’s timing. Of course we want to feel the Lord’s presence in amazing ways all the time, but we also trust that there is purpose in the “valleys” and He will use it all for His glory and our good. If you’ve been wanting to rekindle the fire in your spirit and walk closer with the Lord, tune in to hear some resources and habits that have helped us tremendously.Follow us on IG:@asformeandmyhousepodcast@milenaciciotti @jordanciciottiSubscribe to As For Me and My House Podcast and Milena’s Channel on YouTubeJoin our Facebook Group: As For Me and My House PodcastA loving environment to talk all things podcast, share prayer requests and praise reports! Leading Your Children to Know Jesus

Greetings and God’s blessings on you, friends! We are super excited to share some thoughts about how we are intentionally raising our children to know the Lord. You may recall we did an episode about whether or not you should indoctrinate your children and this episode builds on that conversation. Once you decide how you and your spouse as a team are going to raise your children, it’s time to put together an intentional strategy to make that plan happen. This episode shares a little bit of our strategy and we hope it helps you as you consider these things in your own life. Marriage Boundaries

One of the biggest breakthroughs in our relationship as husband and wife has come from setting healthy boundaries in our marriage. When we experienced the reality of setting up a system to protect, prevent, and prosper our relationship, it had a ripple effect on our relationship with our children, family, and friends as well. Of course the ultimate expression of relationship for those of us who belong to the Lord is to be in close fellowship with Jesus by the power of the Holy Spirit. If this foundation is unstable, it makes for turbulence and discord in every other relationship. We want to share some lessons we’ve learned along the way in hopes of being a source of encouragement and admonition for those of us who seek to honor God in our relationships. Disciplining Children

Hey friends! Thank you for being here as we share our hearts on some rather important (and debated) philosophies when it comes to disciplining children. We are limited in our direct experience as parents in that our children are very little, but we do have perspective from our childhood that we want to offer as teaching points as well. Our goal is not to tell you what is right and what is wrong, nor how you ought to discipline your own children, but merely to have a discussion and provide our two cents. If we can give you any tools to add to your parenting toolbelt, then our goal will be reached. May God grant you wisdom, patience, and love as you navigate what it means to parent well.Compassion InternationalBe a part of releasing children from poverty in Jesus’ name at compassion.com/myhouse Follow us on IG:@asformeandmyhousepodcast@milenaciciotti @jordanciciottiSubscribe to As For Me and My House Podcast and Milena’s Channel on YouTubeJoin our Facebook Group: As For Me and My House PodcastA loving environment to talk all things podcast, share prayer requests and praise reports! Hey y'all!  Thanks for being here.  We had a blast with this episode, and as you can imagine, there's a ton we wanted to unpack as we share some of these things that are deeply important to us.  As a disclaimer, if there is something that we say we don't subscribe to, that doesn't mean we absolutely never do it, rather, we openly acknowledge it as wrong and (by God's grace) fight to rid it from our habitual nature.  In other words, we are not wanting to come off as hypocritical, and instead want to echo Paul's wording in Philippians 3:12 - "Not that I have already obtained this or am already perfect, but I press on to make it my own, because Christ Jesus has made me his own."  What we have found to be true in our lives is that when we make the things of God (as revealed to us in His Word) a habit, then we are actually liberated and not restricted by bring Him honor.Compassion InternationalBe a part of releasing children from poverty in Jesus’ name at compassion.com/myhouse Follow us on IG and share us on your IG stories for a chance to win coffee on us this week!@asformeandmyhousepodcast@milenaciciotti @jordanciciottiSubscribe to As For Me and My House Podcast and Milena’s Channel on YouTubeJoin our Facebook Group: As For Me and My House PodcastA loving environment to talk all things podcast, share prayer requests and praise reports! Society' Ideas on Masculinity

Hey everyone!  So glad you're here!!  On this episode, we wanted to take an honest look at some of the challenges, struggles, and ideologies that our culture is immersed in regarding what it means to be masculine.  In an age of questioning the past traditions in hopes of a better tomorrow, we who follow Jesus ought to be on the cutting edge of conversations that describe the roles, responsibilities, and philosophy of manliness.  In a world that has perverted and even manipulated what it means to be a man, husband, and father, it is our conviction to turn to the Scriptures as our one and only source of Truth in understanding manhood.  While the world forces husbands to be either dominating or pacifying in their marriage, the Bible gives a tertiary option to be a servant-leader.  While the world tells fathers to either straighten up their kids with harsh beatings or simply sit back and let your child parent YOU, the Word of God says to discipline in love, without provoking your children to anger (or trauma).  We only scratch the surface of the ways society has influenced manhood in this episode, but we hope it serves as a starting point for conversations in your own context.  As always, we are so grateful to God for your love and support!  It is mutual on our end, too.  For the glory of God alone! What Convicts Us

Hey friends!  This episode gets a little juicy as we open up our hearts--our souls--to you in attempt to express the things that convict us to our core.  It is important to understand where we are coming from when we speak of convictions.  We are Bible-believing followers of Jesus and we choose to trust Him instead of the world as our standard of truth.  That foundation is what we are building on and motivated by in our convictions.  The word "conviction" means more than just a feeling or an opinion.  It is a deep-seated passion that remains constant regardless of popular opinion or societal norms.  We pray this blesses you and encourages boldness in your faith.  Lord bless!Compassion InternationalBe a part of releasing children from poverty in Jesus’ name at compassion.com/myhouse *We are working on a HUGE initiative with Compassion in Tanzania to raise $1.1M to meet critical needs and ask that you would prayerfully consider donating to care for those in extreme poverty while also bringing the Gospel of Jesus Christ to them.  Check out the above link for more info!Follow us on IG and share us on your IG stories for a chance to win coffee on us this week!@asformeandmyhousepodcast@milenaciciotti @jordanciciottiSubscribe to As For Me and My House Podcast and Milena’s Channel on YouTubeJoin our Facebook Group: As For Me and My House PodcastA loving environment to talk all things podcast, share prayer requests and praise reports! Seeing Halloween Through a Biblical Filter

How should Bible-believing followers of Jesus respond to Halloween? Is it a harmless holiday for candy and costumes, or is there a deeper evil and spiritual darkness behind it? Join us and our mentor, Darry, as we discuss some of the origins and meaning behind Halloween and how the spiritual realm plays a role in this holiday. 60: Should You Indoctrinate Your Children?

Hey y'all!  On this episode, we share some thoughts on what it means to indoctrinate, teach, guide, and discipline your children.  Coming from the Judeo-Christian worldview, the Bible--God's Word--is our guide and ultimate source of absolute truth.  You may not agree with us, and that is okay--just know if you aren't teaching your child as they grow, someone or something WILL teach them.  Our prayer for ourselves and for you all listening is that God would shape and prepare us for the calling to guide and influence the next generation for His glory and purposes.  Lord bless you!Compassion InternationalBe a part of releasing children from poverty in Jesus’ name at compassion.com/myhouse  (https://www.compassion.com/sponsor_a_child/?referer=602217)*We are working on a HUGE initiative with Compassion in Tanzania to raise $1.1M to meet critical needs and ask that you would prayerfully consider donating to care for those in extreme poverty while also bringing the Gospel of Jesus Christ to them.  Check out the above link for more info!Follow us on IG and share us on your IG stories for a chance to win coffee on us this week!@asformeandmyhousepodcast (https://www.instagram.com/asformeandmyhousepodcast/?hl=en)@milenaciciotti  (https://www.instagram.com/milenaciciotti/?hl=en)@jordanciciotti (https://www.instagram.com/jordanciciotti/?hl=en)Subscribe to As For Me and My House Podcast (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCch2cmvxUAqDBslSeRcWPzw) and Milena’s Channel (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCGmDvEa2u0FO5NhH5x2FGZQ) on YouTube Join our Facebook Group: As For Me and My House Podcast (https://www.facebook.com/groups/asformeandmyhousepodcast/)  A loving environment to talk all things podcast, share prayer requests and praise reports! What does it mean to be in poverty?  What do you associate with "being poor"?  There is much Biblical wisdom that addresses not just our physical needs, but our relational and spiritual needs as well.  We can be lacking (impoverished) in many ways, but only Jesus can fulfill us in every way.  We are delighted you are tuning in, and welcome you to partner with us in our calling to bring fulfillment to people's poverty by being the hands and feet of Jesus to the world.Compassion InternationalBe a part of releasing children from poverty in Jesus’ name at compassion.com/myhouse  (https://www.compassion.com/sponsor_a_child/?referer=602217)We need your help to reach our goal of raising 1.1 million dollars for the country of Tanzania through Compassion to meet their critical needs due to the impact of covid-19.  With your help and the Lord's intervention, we can continue releasing children and their families from poverty in Jesus' name.Operation Underground RailroadWe joined the fight against child sex trafficking by supporting collaborative efforts of groups like O.U.R. 52: The Life-Altering Power of Sponsoring a Child: Okumu's Story

Hey AFM+MH Fam!  We had the honor of sitting down with Okumu and Kelsey, two key players in the fight against poverty through the ministry of Compassion International, and we were amazed to learn so much about the enduring work of Compassion through Okumu's story.Okumu grew up in eastern Uganda living in unthinkable poverty. Born in 1982, Okumu shares of a childhood spent traveling a painful distance each day in search of water—these same water sources often polluted and shared with livestock. Okumu tells of his earliest memories of going to school barefoot without a lunch, backpack or even a simple textbook in hand. But in 1991, a 9 year old Okumu would step into a Compassion Center for the first time having been sponsored now by a family halfway around the world. This would be the first time he’d sit in a desk, receive his first Bible, be given a special Christmas present and receive dozens of letters of encouragement from his sponsoring family. In just a few years, Okumu would give his life to Jesus. From a small act of simple compassion, Okumu has escaped the clutches of generational poverty, now grown and training pastors around the world for the work of ministry!Okumu’s story of growing up in extreme poverty may sound like an anomaly, but in fact nearly 1/2 of the world’s population (more than 3 billion people) live on less than $2.50 a day. As Covid-19 spreads into every country, those living in extreme poverty continue to be the most vulnerable. And so we’ve asked ourselves “how should we respond to extreme poverty as followers of Jesus?” Join us in this compelling interview as we learn together what small part we can play in making an immense and life-changing impact in the lives of so many across the world. For more information about Compassion or to sponsor a child, visit Compassion.com/myhouse. Compassion is a child-focused, church-centered organization committed to releasing children from poverty in Jesus name since 1958.  We receive no monetary benefit in this partnership.  It is reward enough to see so many lives changed through the power of the Gospel. Additionally, there are many opportunities to give one-time donations to help in other areas of Compassion’s work. Compassion’s survival fund (https://www.compassion.com/help-babies-in-poverty.htm?referer=602217) ensures pregnant mothers will receive the resources they need for a healthy pregnancy with assistance and care throughout the baby’s first year of life. Of course there are ways to support Compassion International beyond financial giving, as currently many sponsored children do not receive letters from their sponsors. This is where people like you can step in and write letters of love and encouragement for children who might not receive letters from their sponsors. For more information about writing letters to children go to https://blog.compassion.com/write-to-a-child/ or call 1-800-336-7676.Okumu is passionate about bringing the gospel to all people, especially those in Africa.  Check out his ministry webpage www.restoreafrica.net to learn more. For a limited time, go to literati.com/house for 25% off your first two orders!--- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/asformeandmyhousepodcast/support

45: What We Aspire to Teach Our Children: Managing Emotions | Being the Example | Self Esteem

We are big believers in being intentional in our parenting to the benefit of both children and parents.  In our conversations surrounding mental and emotional wellness, we decided to start off with talking about the next generation:  our children and youth.  Children that don’t know how to express or control their emotions become adults that don’t how to express or control their emotions.  It all starts now.  A formative appreciation for habits from the very beginning.  We're so excited you're joining us for this discussion and welcome your thoughts and comments as we seek more understanding on such a deep topic!Follow us on IG!@asformeandmyhousepodcast (https://www.instagram.com/asformeandmyhousepodcast/?hl=en)@milenaciciotti  (https://www.instagram.com/milenaciciotti/?hl=en)@jordanciciotti (https://www.instagram.com/jordanciciotti/?hl=en)Find all of our notes from this week’s episode in our IG stories! 41: Ending the Comparison Trap Part II: A Female Perspective on Shame

When it comes to the comparison trap, shame and envy are often working in cahoots with one another. In this episode, we’ll look specifically at comparison through the lense of shame. Shame is that feeling that washes over us, making us feel flawed, small and never good enough. The ladies tackle this episode with a much needed honesty surrounding their own struggle with shame within comparison and the dark side of social media. Often due to social media we are left with a lose-lose, we are either too much of something or not enough. Here’s a soundbite, “As women, our shame generally centers on our appearance, how people view us and this need to be perceived as ‘having it all together.’ And as if that wasn’t enough, women feel an added pressure to make it all appear effortless”Join us again as we mobilize to combat comparison together and overthrow lose-lose living.SponsorsHawthorne - Get 10% off your first purchase at Hawthorne.com (http://hawthorne.co/) with code "House"Four Sigmatic - Get 15% off your order at http://foursigmatic.com/HOUSEAlso!Follow us on IG!@asformeandmyhousepodcast (https://www.instagram.com/asformeandmyhousepodcast/?hl=en)@milenaciciotti  (https://www.instagram.com/milenaciciotti/?hl=en)@jordanciciotti (https://www.instagram.com/jordanciciotti/?hl=en)Find all of our notes from this week’s episode in our IG stories! 31: Practical Advice for Sharing Your Faith with Your Jewish Friends Featuring Rabbi Glenn

You heard how God transformed him to be a mighty witness for Jesus among Jewish people in the last episode, and now Glenn is back to give some very solid Biblical and experiential wisdom about how you (yes, YOU) can be a bold witness to Jews in your sphere of influence in particular, and to all people in general.  Glenn clarifies 10 myths that many Christians believe when it comes to witnessing to their Jewish friends:1.) Jewish people must know the Old Testament a lot better than I do.2.) Don’t most Jewish people believe in God (and Heaven/Hell/Sin)?3.) Aren’t Jewish people still waiting for the Messiah?4.) Aren’t Orthodox Jews harder to reach than more secular Jews?5.) I’m a Gentile, so I’m at a disadvantage trying to reach Jewish people.6.) With Jewish people shouldn’t you witness from the Old Testament?7.) I’m afraid if I say the wrong thing, I will offend my Jewish friend.8.) Before I tell him about Messiah, shouldn’t I gain the friendship of the Jewish person I want to evangelize?9.) My pastor says Jewish people already have a covenant and can get to Heaven without having to believe in Jesus.10.) My Jewish friend hates Jews for Jesus – should I avoid that ministry? It is encouraging to see the fulfillment of God's promises in Scripture come to pass right before our very eyes.  He promised he would keep a remnant of his people for himself that would be preserved throughout all time.  Messianic Jews like Glenn are living proof of that promise, and it is wonderful to see the ministry he is doing among Jews and Gentiles alike.Be sure to check out Lola, a female-founded company offering a full line of organic cotton, 100% natural, feminine hygiene products.  Plus, take advantage of their simple, customizable subscription service so you don't have to keep forcing your husband, fiancé, or boyfriend to go pick up a box for you at the store when you run out and that time of the month is back.  For 30% off your first month's subscription, visit mylola.com and enter "HOUSE" when you subscribe. Also, check out Puracy for all your home and baby care product needs!  They make natural, multi-surface cleaners, stain removers, dish soaps, laundry detergents, baby shampoos, body washes, conditioners, and more!  They also have over 20,000 five star reviews online, so you don't even have to take our word for it!  And on top of that, for every purchase, Puracy makes a donation to local children and families who are less fortunate!  It's a win-win for everyone!  With Christmas right around the corner, now is the perfect time to take advantage of this special offer of 20% off your first order, but only if you go to puracy.com/myhouseIf you have a special occasion coming up (or even just because!), our friends at the Bouqs Co have the perfect floral arrangements, plants, succulents, wreaths and gives for any occasion.  The quality of their farm-fresh, sustainably grown flowers stand alone compared to their competitors, and it shows!  They even have wedding and corporate packages that allow you to save up to 80% versus traditional florists!  All you have to do to get 25% off your first order is head to bouqs.com/house--- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/asformeandmyhousepodcast/support

30: Your Testimony is Powerful Featuring Rabbi Glenn

This week, we sat down with a dear friend of mine named Glenn Harris as he shared his testimony on coming to know Jesus after being raised in a secular Jewish family, and later dabbling in New Age and occult teachings until the Holy Spirit revealed the Truth of Jesus to him.  Glenn is now a Messianic Jew, or a Jew who believes Jesus is the Messiah, and serves as an Associate Rabbi at Congregation Shema Yisrael in Bloomfield, Michigan.  He lives out his testimony in fulfillment of Paul's words in Romans 1:16, "I am not ashamed of the Gospel of Jesus, for it is the power unto salvation; for the Jew first, and then the Gentile."Glenn's testimony is evidence that the Word of God is living and active and can cut to our very heart and soul to transform our lives (Hebrews 4:12).To find out more about Glenn's ministry, check out www.shema.com.Be sure to check out Beauty Counter and their newly launched "Countertime Collection" for all your skincare needs.  Head over to beauty counter.com to check out their special holiday offers just in time for Christmas (no coupon needed). Also, receive 20% off your first fully customized shampoo and conditioner set from Function of Beauty just for being our listener!  To redeem, go to functionofbeauty.com/HOUSE--- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/asformeandmyhousepodcast/support

Arguing and disagreeing are part of the human experience.  Whether you're single, dating, or married, we all have people in our lives with whom we have conflict at one time or another.  Thankfully, Scripture gives us practical insight for conflict resolution, and we can grow to love and understand each other better.  Jordan and Milena offer a few thoughts on how to successfully seek understanding among one another from their personal experience. 23: Questions to Ponder For Major Life Decisions

Its true what they say: You're either in the middle of a big decision, about to to make a bid decision, or just made a big decision. Whichever you fall under, we want to ask some questions that we think would be helpful to consider together as you move towards understanding God's will and your desire better. It's our hope and prayer you meet every challenging decision with Scripture to guide you along the journey of life. Hey y'all!  You are in for a treat on this episode.  We sat down with Jordan's cousin Steffen and his wife, Celeste to share some fun stories and dialogue on the culture today amongst young people and the next generation coming up behind Millennials.  Steffen has a decade of experience as a youth pastor in both South Florida and Washington D.C., and Celeste has been faithfully serving alongside him in ministry for years.  These two bring so much joy and nourishment to our lives, and we hope you are refreshed by their company on this episode!--- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/asformeandmyhousepodcast/support

19: Back From Our Sabbatical: What God Revealed to Us

We had an incredible getaway last week, and we are so grateful for all that God showed us along the journey.  If we can encourage you to do anything from this week's episode, it would be to retreat from the chaos and day to day stressors (just as Jesus did several times) and connect with God through the Holy Spirit and His Word.  In a world where we all run on empty so often, it is more important now than ever to hit the "pause" button and commune with the Lord in peace.  We pray for each of you listening to encounter the Lord in amazing ways as you seek to honor him with your time and habits.--- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/asformeandmyhousepodcast/support

18: Taking a Sabbatical

We all know vacations are essential to resting, recharging, and relaxing from the grind of work--but even vacationing can bring stress and anxiety with so many things to plan and places to go.  On this episode, we are talking about a trip we are taking as a family (dogs included!) around the beautiful state of Michigan.  Partially because we only get about 3 months of nice weather during the year, but mostly because we are taking a sabbatical (or spiritual retreat) to get away for a bit and hear from God on what his will is for us in the weeks and months ahead.  If you are contemplating some major life shifts--whether it be a job change, moving across the country, or stepping into a new role as a spouse or parent--we highly recommend retreating for at least a couple days to get away and clear your head for God to bring you truth from his word.  We will be sharing some of the insights we learn on next week's episode, so stay tuned!--- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/asformeandmyhousepodcast/support

17: Doing vs Being: The Story of Mary and Martha

In this episode, we focus on two tendencies we all have as people:  There are those who are "doers" (Martha) and those who are "be-ers" (Mary).  Think to yourself what you would do if Jesus told you he was coming over for dinner tonight.  What would be your first thought?  Would you scrub every inch of your house?  Put away the monster pile of laundry in your room?  Prepare the most scrumptious feast anyone has ever had?... Or would you simply leave all that on hold and just spend time with the Lord? Jesus makes it clear in Luke 10:38-42 which response brings him delight.  Mary chose to sit at the Lord's feet and spend quality time with him.  Martha was "distracted...anxious, and troubled about many things."  Serving absolutely has it's place in the life of the Christian, but if it's done with the wrong heart and motives, it is no good at all.  The simple act of being present in the moment and enjoying fellowship with people is what matters most.  Worry less about doing, and focus more on being.--- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/asformeandmyhousepodcast/support

16: Opening Up About Past Drug Use feat. Melanie

Hey guys!  We are SO excited to have Melanie join us on this episode to share a little about where we've been in our past and where God has brought us since.  Your past is not who you are--and if you are in Christ, you are completely forgiven for everything.  If you or someone you know has ever struggled to believe God can truly change a heart and make a new creation out of us, even in spite of all the wrong we've done, this episode is for you.--- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/asformeandmyhousepodcast/support

15: Taming The Tongue

If you're like us, you often regret a lot of the things you say.  Whether it be unkind or hurtful words, we all struggle to get control of our tongues.  The Apostle James gives us clarity and instruction on how we as Christians ought to submit to the Holy Spirit so that we are able to speak gently and lovingly to others.  Also, stay tuned as we announce some new things happening on this podcast in the future!  Prayers welcomed!--- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/asformeandmyhousepodcast/support

14: Being in a Slump

Guys.  This is probably the most transparent episode we've done because we are in the midst of going through a slump currently.  I'm sure you'd agree its far better to be open and honest about life when you go through certain seasons instead of putting on a mask pretending everything is okay, because the more we let our walls down, the more God can use our situation to be a testimony of his goodness.  James 5:16 tells us to confess our sins to one another and pray for each other so that we may be healed.  If you're in the midst of a valley/slump/rut in life, know that you are not alone--the Lord will never leave or forsake you (Hebrews 13:5).  Trust in him and seek him in the trials.  He will bring you peace in spite of the chaos.--- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/asformeandmyhousepodcast/support

13: Following Jesus in High School & College

Real Life versus Fiction"Nothing is so beautiful and wonderful, nothing is so continually fresh and surprising, so full of sweet and perpetual ecstacy, as the good.No desert is so dreary, monotonous, and boring as evil. This is the truth about authentic good and evil. With fictional good and evil it is the other way round. 12: Biblical Advice on Parenting

As new parents ourselves, we are constantly seeking wisdom and advice from those who have been discipling and parenting their children much longer than us. It just so happens that our church is in the middle of a series on relationships, and this past week was all about parents and children! We utilized our sermon notes from the message preached by Pastor Brad Powell, because we thought what he said was too good not to share. Whether you’re a new parent like us, been a parent for a long time, or are even in a position of authority and influence over younger people, this message is for you. We also encourage you to listen to Brad’s entire message because he does such a great job communicating the truth of the Bible as it applies to parenting. 11: A Discussion on Evolution and Creation

We asked and you answered... In this week’s episode, we take a look at some of the science and evidence supporting the case for Creation and the Genesis account. For the most part, society seems to accept the notion of macro-evolution because that is what the scientific community at large is promoting. Is there an agenda to all this? Is the evidence really there to support kinds changing into other kinds? Our youth today are naturally skeptical and tend to question everything. I mean, can you blame them? We live in a world of “fake news” and Face Tune; Photoshop and Instagram filters. It is GOOD to question what you’re taught and never just simply take someone’s word for it (Acts 17:11).Also, back by popular demand is our dear friend and mentor, Darry Nagel. Tune in as we take somewhat of a cursory tour of some of the questions evolution can not answer—such as, “How does something come from nothing?” and “How does life come from non-life (abiogenesis)?” These cannot be explained by natural means—but the Bible has provided answers to these questions and more (that are backed up and confirmed by science) all along.--- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/asformeandmyhousepodcast/support

10: Our First Date

***CRINGE WARNING*** Our first date story was nothing short of awkward with a little fun and silliness mixed in, so pretty much exactly what you'd expect.  Even though it's been nearly 7 years, we both remember the day like it was yesterday.  It's crazy how vivid memories can be when a significant life event happens.  If you're dating or actively seeking a potential mate, we hope this episode encourages you that there are still people out there who are committed to serving the Lord while in a dating relationship.  Don't settle or compromise your God-honoring convictions for any human relationship!  Examine the Faith, Family, and Physical Appearance (least important but still valid) of the other person and see how it aligns with what you seek in a God-fearing spouse.--- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/asformeandmyhousepodcast/support

9: How to Be a Bold Christian

If you're like every other follower of Jesus, you've felt unqualified to share the gospel with your friends, family, or even strangers at some point in your life.  We hope this episode serves to give you some insight and practical tools to equip you to be bold in sharing the truth of Jesus Christ.  Whether you are a new Christian or have been walking with Jesus for decades, the Bible calls us to preach the good news to all the world and to do so with boldness.  Your personality type and head-knowledge have nothing to do with being obedient to what God has called you to do.  Trust Him when he prompts you to be bold in your witness.--- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/asformeandmyhousepodcast/support

8: Avoiding The Trap Of Social Media

This week’s episode hits home with us for several reasons. Being that so much of our livelihood and work comes from social media, it is hard at times to know where that happy medium of healthy social media consumption lies. Perhaps you’ve felt the toxic effects of social media in your life—whether deliberately or subconsciously. Maybe you’ve seen the great potential and purposes it can serve as an encouragement in your life or others. Still, maybe you’ve experienced a combination of good and bad. Regardless of your interaction with social media, there is no doubt it has influenced each of us in one way or another. We hope you find our discussion on this episode sobering and thought-provoking as you figure out how to make the best use of your time with social media.--- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/asformeandmyhousepodcast/support

We had so much fun reading and answering your questions!  We plan on doing these sporadically from time-to-time, so let us know what you want us to answer next time.  This episode, we talk about a variety of things from awkward dating moments to how we make time for each other as we adjust to life as new parents.  Our goal with doing Q's and A's is to always be transparent and honest with you all, and make Jesus known through our lives.  Enjoy!--- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/asformeandmyhousepodcast/support

6: The Truth About Easter

This might come as a surprise to you, but Easter is actually not all about bunnies and chocolate. In reality, Easter is the celebration of the greatest event in the history of the world—Jesus’ resurrection. In this special edition episode, we are joined by our friend and mentor, Darry Nagel, who has taught us not only what the Bible says, but how to study it for ourselves. Darry shares the true story of Easter from a Biblical perspective, and as always, brings it full-circle back to the Gospel. This Easter, we pray you discover the true meaning of the holiday, and enter into relationship with the God who conquered death on the cross 2,000 years ago.--- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/asformeandmyhousepodcast/support

4: God's Will For You: Where Purpose and Passion Collide

We've all heard the cliche saying, "God has a wonderful plan for your life," but if we're honest, most of the day-to-day, mundane tasks of life don't seem all that "wonderful."  In this episode, it's our hope to effectively share what it means to truly understand God's will for each and every one of us, so that you can walk in the joy of the Lord regardless of what you do.  While society puts money, power, and fame on the highest pedestals of success, the Christian worldview seeks to make relationship with Christ foundational, "so that in everything he might be preeminent."--- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/asformeandmyhousepodcast/support

2: Pre-Marriage Expectations: Lessons We Learned

Tune is as we share some stories about our background and upbringing, and how those experiences affected what expectations we brought to our marriage.  We gained a wealth of insight from going through a pre-marriage class at our church a few months before we got married, and we strongly recommend anyone listening and soon to be married to do the same!  In particular, we get into the details about how we handle household roles and responsibilities, parenting, finances, personal time with each other, and time with the Lord.  By no means do we have everything figured out, but God is continuing to work on us each day.  Enjoy!
