Dali and Jackie, two highly opinionated latina childhood friends who have grown up to realize they have not grown up. Come listen every week to see how these two goal driven, determined and honest females discuss various topics nobody prepared them for going into adulthood such as; mental health, sex, marriage, divorce, kids, death and other subjects that assure us all that we are not alone.
EP 90: We're slowing it down and we're also upper middle class now.
Welcome back familia!!This week we discuss some changes that are being made in our lives and also on the show. We have a lot of new ideas brewing and we want to keep you guys in the loop as much as possible. We also discuss the new adult purchase Dali recently made that has all of us feeling like we've finally made it in life. It's funny how one basic Amazon buy as an adult can change our whole mood and outlook on life. It's the little things that mean the most sometimes. EP 89: Coparenting challenges.
Welcome back familia! This week we dive deep into the topic of coparenting. The struggles, the patience needed, the communication. There are so many different aspects that come into play when two people decide not to be together but still have to come together to help raise a child. Unfortunately, coparenting has a bad reputation (for good reason), but the older we get, the more we have to learn to grow and make unwanted situations work to better our kids future. EP 88: Parenting a parent, the power of repetition, and finding the time.
Welcome back familia! It's your two favorite girls, Dali and JQ. This week we dive deep into the topic of parenting, but not just any type of parenting. We discuss the pros and cons of reverse parenting. Reverse parenting occurs when the normal parent-child roles are reversed. the The parent looks to the child for nurture, protection and affirmation, and the child, either consciously or unconsciously, sacrifices his or her needs to provide for the needs of the parent.During our grown folk business, we discuss the importance of repetition. Repeating good habits and healthy mindsets. Also, we are currently taking any suggestions for any future guest appearances on the show. EP 87: "ARE WE OVERSHARING ON SOCIAL MEDIA? WHERE DO WE DRAW THE LINE?"
Welcome back familia to another episode! This week we dive deep into the conversation of social media and how easy it is to over share nowadays. It’s easy to find a community online and want to connect and share with others, but how much is too much? It can easily become difficult to find a balance between vulnerability and privacy, and a lot of us realize that after it’s too late. There is beauty in mystery but also in sharing. How can we find the balance between the two? For our grown folk business this week, Dali and JQ discuss The importance of April being Sexual Assault Awareness Month. If you or someone you know Is or has dealt with sexual assault, please know it is ok to ask for help. Nobody should have to deal with a bad situation on their own, no matter how grown we are. April is also National Poetry Month. We want to bring awareness to all of the talented writers out there as well. And we ask that you try digging deep and expressing yourself on paper. Poetry can be a beautiful form of therapy. Give it a try. EP 86: "IS CELIBACY THE NEW TREND?"
Welcome back AWAY family! This week we dive into the topic of celibacy. We've been hearing more and more of our single adult friends choosing to stay celibate and honestly, it doesn't seem like a bad idea. We are grown now, and sometimes we have to force ourselves to make grown decisions on and what kind of energy we allow into our lives. Celibacy can be a healthy way to determine that for us. Even though this seems like a very difficult lifestyle to lead, it can be very rewarding. For most people, it is an empowering experience and that is why it is slowly becoming a new trend in our society. More and more people are choosing to hold off on sex to focus on themselves more. Would you be able to do it? If you are someone who has practiced celibacy before, we'd love to hear about your experience in the comments below. Grown folk this week is a great time. JQ and Dali decided to go out before recording this episode so they start off the show with very hyped up attitudes, to say the least. EP 85: "HEALING CAN BE WEIRD. PARENTING IS HARD. AND LET'S BE REAL, WOULD YOU MARRY YOU?
Welcome back adult family!Thank you for joining us on another episode Are We Adulting Yet. This week we dive deep into marriage. However, this isn't your average marriage talk. Instead of discussing a relationship with another person, we decided to ask each other if we would marry ourselves. It's so easy to grow up and form relationships with others to see if they are marriage material. But do we ever ask ourselves if we would be a good person to marry? Do we believe we possess the qualities we wish to find in a husband or wife? Even if you are already married, this is a good question to continue to ask yourself to cultivate and keep healthy relationships growing. There is beauty in being able to reflect on your behaviors and habits as we grown. Is this something we should focus more on as we get older? Let us know in the comments below. For our grown folk segment, Dali discusses her healing journey and how messy it is becoming for her. Healing ourselves as we get older isn't always just bubble baths and face masks. It can become very messy and scary when we have to face our traumas, and Dali is experiencing this now more than ever. Jackie talks about her struggles with balancing her everyday life. Parenting is hard and it's a lot easier than one may think to lose yourself while trying to juggle so many tasks with children. It helps to talk about it. EP 84: "JACKIE & DALI DEBATE ON IF THE WORLD IS GETTING BETTER OR WORSE. ALSO, LOTS OF OTHER CONVOS FROM HOMELESSNESS, TO WAR, ALL THE WAY TO COFFEE"
Welcome back AWAY family! This week we dive deep into a few different conversations. The main topic though is if we believe the world is getting better or worse. Or could it just be that because we are getting older, the more life we are experiencing and that is making it seem as if our surroundings are worsening. Could the media play a role into our perspective of the way the world is? Throughout the episode, we also touch on deep interesting topics such as homelessness, drug addiction, war, racism, the environment, and coffee. Like we said, this week we're having multiple different conversations. When we sit. down to think and analyze the world to form an opinion on whether or not the world is getting better or worse, it's easy to get into so many aspects the world has to offer us. We feel like it's important to explore and discuss all of these aspects constantly. Is there a viewpoint you have on life that you believe is getting better or getting worse? Also, Dali has some exciting news she has decided to share with us! EP 83: "DOES APPEARANCE MATTER IN OUR ADULT LIFE? SHOULD WE STRIVE FOR GOOD LOOKS OR CONFIDENCE? WHY CAN'T REAL LIFE BE LIKE FESTIVAL LIFE?"
Welcome back fam! This week we dive deep into the topic of appearance and how important it is for us as adults to look good in our society. By now, it's pretty known that if you look good then you probably feel good (to an extent). However, it seems like the older we get the more we begin to, unknowingly, over obsess with our appearance. It becomes the forefront of our society and it's easy to get lost in trying to look good for other people. This is not to say that it's bad to want to look great. After all, studies have shown that the better you present yourself, the more likely you are to land better jobs, better looking partners, and better opportunities in life. But we all know appearance eventually fades, and the older we get we tend to look for deeper meaning within ourselves and others. So does appearance really matter? Or does our perception of appearance simply change over time? We also share our recent music festival experience and shed a little tear or two because real life is just not the same. Also, we are currently taking any suggestions for any future guest appearances on the show. EP 82: The stigma around not having kids, not wanting kids, and the pressures of being a good parent.
Welcome back fam! This week we dive deep into a topic that we're sure many of us have had to deal with. It seems like the older we get, the societal pressures of finding a mate, getting married, and having kids becomes greater and greater. Especially the having kids part. And if you're a women, the pressure is instantly doubled. The is instantly a stigma around adults who choose not to have kids. We are told we are allowed to make our own decisions when we become older, however, when it comes to our reproductive decisions our decisions are judged, warped and looked down upon at times. Have you ever felt the weight of everyone else's opinion on your life? If you have, it's totally normal. But that doesn't make it right. EP 81: Vulnerability with Men in our Society (Ft. Jose Quinones)
Welcome back fam! This week we dive deep with a very special guest on a topic that, we believe, is not talked about enough. We have Jose, host of the You Mean Now Podcast and our brother, join us to discuss the difficulties with men expressing their vulnerability in today's society. It seems like the older we get, the more closed off we become to our emotions. Why is it so difficult to become so exposed? Are women ready for men to be more vulnerable? Is society ready for it? It's always great to hear the perspective of others to gain more awareness and understanding. These are the type of conversations we want to continue having in our adult life to achieve growth. EP 80: Are adults addicted to sex?
Welcome back to an all new episode! This week we dive deep into why adults love porn, sex, and being pleasured. It comes to no surprise that the the older we get, the more we begin to realize the massive influence sex has on our culture. With the rise and growth of the Internet we've also experienced a significant rise in the porn and sex work industry. Why is it such a succesful technique to use to grab our attention? Sex sells and we all grow up and become consumers to it, whether we realize it or not. Also, we are currently taking any suggestions for any future guest appearances on the show. EP 79: Cheating, being cheated on, and open relationships.
Welcome back fam! This week we dive deep into a topic that a lot of us are familiar with. Cheating within a relationship. Whether you have cheated or have been cheated on, we all grow up and realize that infidelity is a lot more common than we thought it was when we were younger. There is an extremely high percentage of us that find ourselves in these types of situations and it's difficult to accept at times. As children we were all, in some way, served this fantasy that relationships and romance are like a Disney movie. We fall in love and live happily ever after. Unfortunately, that is not the way the real world works. Relationships are always going to get messy, so it's important that we know what we are and are not willing to accept from ourselves and others. We then go into the topic of open relationships. Did you know that millennials are ranked the highest in experimenting with open relationships? Maybe we're realizing there is more than just a monogamous type of relationship? Maybe our generation is accepting the idea that a relationship can look completely opposite from a Disney movie and still thrive? Or is the reality of how common cheating is finally setting in and we are coming to a compromise? Conversations like this are so important to us as we get older. We invest so much of our time into our personal relationships so it feels only right to explore the issues that may arise. And most importantly, learn to have the hard conversations and open mind. Also, we are currently taking any suggestions for any future guest appearances on the show. EP 78: The pros and cons from the millennials who grew up with technology.
Welcome back, fam! This week we're talking all about technology. As millennials, we have been fortunate enough to really grow with technology and the boom of the internet, but we also experienced life before all of that. Because of this, we are considered to be a rare breed of adults, but how do we continue to grow and keep up with the rapid, fast-paced expansion of technology? It feels like the older we get, the easier it is to not accept or want change, however, is that a good choice to make when it comes to something that is so heavily taking over our new way of living? We also take a little trip down memory lane and remember all of the "new" technology that was introduced to us in the 90's. EP 77: Let's channel our inner child. Homegirl needs some help!
We are back with an all new episode of Are We Adulting Yet! This week, we covered a topic that we're sure a lot of us adults face as we get older. Exploring our inner child is not only beneficial for the relationships we create with others, It's most beneficial for the relationship we have with ourselves. Our inner child is an expression of not just your child self, but your lived experience of all life stages. You may channel your inner child through play or by doing something you've always enjoyed doing. Like many of us though, that inner child may be wounded due to passed traumas or neglect. As we dive deeper into adulthood, we realize that a lot of our internal problems and struggles are because we are living with a wounded inner child. We may see that a lot of our fears, anxiety or doubt stems from this. And when we dig deep to understand this, we then allow space in our lives to reparent that inner child and create a healthier and happier life for ourselves. A part of adulting means we are now responsible for every aspect of our lives, including healing from our past. Tune in to hear what helps us and others during this healing journey. Welcome back everyone to another episode of Are We Adulting Yet! The show that discusses all of the adult obstacles, drama, and struggles we all face in our day to day lives. This week we start off with our Grown Folk Business. The segment where we vent about all of the adult tasks that have consumed our lives lately. We all need a moment to decompress and let it all out. We then came together to discuss the juicy story that we're sure has been flooding everybody's timeline. Drake and his hot sauce story is definitely getting people talking so you know we had to put our two cents in on the topic. Unfortunately, these types of incidences happen all of the time, and not just with celebrities. Statistics show that tricking your partner into getting pregnant is mostly common in normal everyday relationships and sexual encounters among both men and women. Why are so many of us ok with deceiving others in such a life changing way. Could it be because of money? Love? Our ego? And that includes being in charge of our traumas and issues that circle around our mothers and father. Remember, they're trying to figure this shit out too. Welcome back family and friends! It’s your two favorite girls bringing you another fresh episode of Are We Adulting Yet. This week we share some new and exciting news in our grown folk business. Welcome back fam! Your two favorite girls are back at it again to bring you an all new episode as we're here on our journey through adulthood. This week we talk about sleeping. Actually, we talk about what happens while we sleep. Humans have been trying to make sense of why we dream for as long as we've been around, and though we've gotten pretty close to understanding, there are still so many questions we all have about why we dream and what we dream about. Maybe we're not even meant to fully understand it all. But it sure is pretty dope to talk about. This week we talk about one of the most important things you can do as an adult. And just in time for one of the most important days of 2020. Yup, we’re talking about voting. We’ve realized a lot growing up and especially this year. And one of the main things is the importance of voting and how critical it is to know who is running your country. So we’ve decided to talk a bit on our perspective on politics. Adulting tip of the day: We don’t know if you will be listening to this before or after the election, but no matter what results we get the adulting tip will always stay the same...VOTE!!Question of the day: Are we voting yet?Wanna listen to us on YouTube? EP 47: Drugs R' Us!
Welcome back AWAY family! Your two favorite girls are back at it again with a brand new episode that leaves us all asking the same question. Are we Adulting yet?! We start the episode off right just like we always do with some grown folk business. We catch you guys up on all the adulting we’ve been up to and how hectic (or not hectic), our lives have been. Then we go right into discussion. This week we’re talking about big pharma and the massive effect it has on all of our lives. Pharmaceutical companies are banking off of us and at the expense of our health. Then we have the opioid crisis that has become the most dangerous thing for the human species. Addiction is real and just because a drug is considered “legal” and a doctor prescribes it to you doesn’t mean your life isn’t in danger. Adulting tip of the day: Medicine is important and it is definitely useful. But make sure you really know what it is you’re putting inside your body before you take something. Awareness is key. EP 46: teachers, abortions, and COVID life!
We’re back at it again fam! Another week and a brand new episode of Are We Adulting Yet! This week we brought back a very special guest and a long time friend. Madison is back in the studio with us and we bring a lot to the table. From teachers not getting paid enough, to abortions, and some talk about how much fun we used to have before all of this COVID hit our lives. But the main thing we chat about is how Coronavirus is STILL happening and how much it’s changed our Ives. 2020 has been the craziest adjustment we’ve had to normalize to, but having great friends and the AWAY family makes it so much easier to get through! Adulting tip of the day: Live your life and tell the people you love that you love the shit out of them. Be nice to strangers. And make sure to buy a vacuum when you move into a new apartment. EP 44: The Universe, the Priests, And wth is going on with the Boy Scouts?!
We’re back! Your two favorite girls have survived another week of adulting and oh what a week it’s been! We start this episode off right with some grown folk business, where JQ talks about her job hunting struggles and Dali talks about how the Universe is speaking to her through numbers and doughnuts. After all of that crazy talk, we dive right into our topic of the week. This topic is something that is hard to talk about but so important to be aware of. As we grow up we begin to realize that not a lot of people have good intentions. And for some of us, that realization begins young with the adults they’ve learned to look up to. We’re living in a time where so many adults are beginning to come out about the sexual assault they’ve dealt with as kids and this is just a tiny glimpse into that. We know this topic is heavy but we need to talk about it. We need to learn how to be adults that can teach kids that this stuff is in no way normal or ok. Adulting tip of the Day: Hope for the best and allow the Universe to bring you to what you need!Question of the day: Are we Sucios yet?!Wanna listen to us on YouTube? EP 43: Fire and ICE!
Welcome back AWAY family! Your two favorite girls are back at it again with another episode that leaves us all asking the same question. Are we Adulting yet? As always, we start off with our episode right with some grown folk business. We catch the fam up on all of the adult things they’ve been up to. Then they get right to business. This week they dive into a very serious issue America is facing at the moment and not just for adults. Kids are being affected by this as well. Dali and JQ want to understand the choices adults make and especially the choices the adults in charge make, simply because these choices can really determine the outcome of our lives. As you all may already know, one of the biggest choices we are dealing with right now is immigration and the ICE detention centers immigrants are being held in. This episode allowed us to really dig deep into the problem and try to understand and we still don’t fully understand. But trust us, we definitely still have our opinions on the issue.Adulting tip of the day: Try to put yourself in somebody else’s shoes. EP 42: Are We Coping Yet?!
Hello again fam! It's a brand new week which means you're two favorite girls are back again asking the most important question we find ourselves all asking. Are we adulting yet?? As always we start off the show right with some Grown Folk Business and this week the girls catch up on some adulting they've been trying to accomplish. Then they share the answers to a question Dali asked some of the AWAY family members, which just so happens to be related to our topic of discussion today. Coping mechanisms. We all have them. But why is it important to understand the way you cope? Most likely there are a lot more of us that have developed unhealthy coping mechanisms than we think. Like maybe having a whole bottle of wine every night because work is annoying the crap out of you is probably not the best way to cope. Even though a bottle of wine does sound great. OH YEAH! And what's a fans only page?!?!Adulting Tip of the Day: It's helpful to learn about the things that cause you stress and the traumas you have so you can understand more about the way you cope. EP 41: Normalizing failure, accepting criticism & asking for help!
Welcome back AWAY family! Your two favorite girls are at it again this week to leave us asking one important question....are we adulting yet?! This episode we're talking about how normal it is to fail. How failure is the only way to get ahead and why it should be normalized in our adult lives. Along with failure comes criticism which is always so hard to take, and sometimes even harder to give. Then there's asking for help. And that can be extremely difficult when you feel like you're an "adult" who should have their shit together already. These things are hard simply because we make it that way. So we want to help change the stigma and normalize these behaviors. Adulthood is a struggle so let's try to make this kind of stuff a bit easier. And we just can't believe we've been here with you all for 41 weeks already! This podcast has changed our lives and we couldn't be more grateful. EP 39: Are we scared to grow up?!
We're back at it again AWAY fam! And this week we're talking about the fear of getting older. We know we know, we ALL have to do it. But why do we have to grow up into this "adult" role of living. Wouldn't it be great to to just be forever young?! In this episode we talk about the growing pains we all feel as we transition from being a kid to a grownup. And ways to make the process a little easier. Grown Folk Business: The girls talk about some difficult adulting they've had to deal with lately. And why they believe they're struggling so much. EP 38: Incarceration Nation!
Hey fam! We're back! Thanks for tuning into another episode that asks us all the same confusing question. Are we adulting yet?! This week Dali and JQ dive into a topic that they feel all adults should be having. Growing up means learning from your mistakes and to keep being better than we were before. But for some of us, our mistakes stay with us for the rest of our lives. The prison system is a place that is definitely needed, but it is also a place with many flaws. And people are dramatically negatively impacted by these flaws. Becoming more aware of the problems that these institutions face will hopefully spark change. And talking about the issues is always a good first step to getting there. Wanna listen to us on YouTube? We're back!! Dali and JQ are at it again and this week they are talking about friendships. But not just any friendships. They want to know if it's possible to have friendships with our exes. Is it easy to just forgive and still be cool? Or should our romantic relationships be left in the past once they no longer serve a purpose for us. JQ and Dali seem to have a difference of opinions about this topic, so the conversation definitely gets interesting. But we want to hear from you. EP 36: Grown and Confident!
We're back once again fam! And this week your two favorite adults are here to speak up about a secret life hack we can all use as we get older. Confidence is the one thing us "grown ups" can use to get through anything life throws at us. The more confident we are in ourselves, the easier it is to believe that we can handle anything. So why is it so difficult to become so confident in ourselves? Of course like with anything else, this is something we must all practice. But practicing things like this together can definitely make it more fun and simpler to achieve. Wanna listen to us on YouTube? An issue many of us have never heard of, but have all probably experienced. They discuss the importance of becoming aware of imposter syndrome, what it is and how to tell if you are or ever have experienced it. We're back AWAY family! After that they go into their grown folk business and discuss the engagement party that Daniel Cameron, Kentucky's attorney general, hosted even though the cops who killed Breonna Taylor still roam free. And after that is all said and done, they dive right into their topic of the week, which is about the importance of different relationships we encounter as we get older. Welcome back AWAY family! We wanted to dedicated more than just one episode in light of the recent events that took place to spark the protests and the fight to end police brutality. Especially because this is a time where we are continually learning something new everyday. Bringing awareness to the issues that come to light as we enter adulthood is our mission for this show. And as two latina women, it is important for us to make sure we are fully aware of the systemic racism that is constantly occurring around us. As we become more and more aware of the Black Lives Matter movement, we're learning a lot! This topic can go on forever. And it should. EP 32: Flirting with dominance, flirting with life and how to be seductive!
You’re two favorite girls are back this week to discuss the art of flirting. But not just flirting. Flirting with dominance. Actually, how to do everything with dominance. This week we talk about ways we can take common flirting tactics and turn them into powerful habits we can practice in our everyday lives. Wouldn't it be great to be able to finesse every situation that comes your way with seduction and confidence? We think so too. And we're hoping we'll only get better at it with age!Grown Folk Business:Dali asked a few of her Instagram friends what kind of flirting qualities they think they possess. Come to find out, there a few people that don’t believe they are good flirts. Or maybe too good of flirts? Adulting tip of the day:We have two tips for you this week! 1. Flirting is definitely a thrill. But if we're flirting just for fun, let’s make sure we’re being clear about our intentions. The ball is always in your court. 2. Flirt with life and watch the magic happen! Are We ___ Yet?The big question this week is are we dominant yet? EP 31: Black Lives Matter!
We’re back!! We want to start this new week off with a topic that has had us all talking lately. The killing of George Floyd was the tip of the iceberg for many people worldwide that have been fighting and feeling the effects of police brutality and systemic racism. The Black Lives Matter Movement has opened our eyes to a lot that has been going on around us. And though we will never know exactly how black people have and continue to be mistreated, we know the world can be unfair. And we have to come together to create a better tomorrow. This episode is not only to inform, but to help us understand a little more too. In times like these, knowledge is power. So let’s continue to educate ourselves and have uncomfortable but necessary conversations! We are in this together! If you are interested in finding out more about the movement visit:https://blacklivesmatter.com/Grown Folk Business:Dali discusses the pickle she got herself into when she applied for a job position as a correctional officer before the George Floyd incident happened. And now, after the protests have started and her passion for the movement has grown, she gets called in for an interview. Let's hear how she's feeling about it now.Adulting tip of the Day:We are living in a time right now where some people may disagree with some things you believe in. Instead of going off and speaking from a place of anger (which is what all of us want to do, i'm sure.), let's try to hear them out and respond from a place of love and respect. We understand this may be hard as hell for us, but hate and animosity isn't going to change the world. Are We ___ Yet?!This week the big question we're asking is are we aware yet? Are we educating ourselves and listening enough to allow us into more of a deeper understanding? Ways you can help:If your'e not much of a protestor but you still want to support the cause. This weeks episode is surrounded around the biggest change of all. Yup, we're talking about death. Now, we know the idea of death can immediately instill fear in some of us. Fear of the unknown is real. But lets face it, death is a change we all have to go through and experience no matter what. So why not talk about it and turn it into something positive? Turn it into a constant mindset we have so we can live more in the moment. To help us achieve this, we go into different aspects of death. We discuss our traditional ways and opinions on how we prepare for death. We look up a few ways other cultures deal with death. The ideas we have on what happens after pass. And we even share some stories from people who have technically died for a quick period of time and then came back to life. What they saw and how they felt. It gets super interesting! We also talk about the theory that thinking about death at least 5 times a day promotes happiness, according to Bhutan culture. And if you feel like contemplating this thought will help you live a more exciting life, the app Dali shared is called WeCroak. Check it out! And remember to live like you're dying! (Cause you are). Also, we know we promised you a 5 min wine down this week and we're so sorry we couldn't give you one. But blame COVID-19 not us! Corona doesn't want us to be great! Oh hey! New relationships!
Dali and JQ are back at it again with a new episode to help us all adult a little better. Season 3 has been dedicated change and different events that tend to take place in our lives that force a change to happen. This weeks episode is targeted around the adjustments that occur when we start new romantic relationships. We talk about the pros and cons, the honeymoon phase, the after honeymoon phase, and so much more that comes with building a new life with a new romantic partner. I think we even constructed a new honeymoon phase within the same relationship! And as always we go into our segments and answer a few questions our listeners had. Whether the idea of having a new romantic partner ignites a thrill or a concern (or maybe both!) in you, creating a bond with someone new is always a major change we have to overcome no matter how many times we've gone through it. It's part of growing up, right? Also, we weren't able to give y'all a 5 min wine down this week thanks to COVID-19. But tune in next week because we're definitely coming back with one. Dating culture and all that comes with it!
We're back fam! And this week the topic is all about the big D! Yup, you got it right, DATING! Thanks to the help of some of our Instagram friends, we're attempting to dig a little deep into the pros and cons of the dating culture and why most of us are just straight up over it. We make sure to touch base on online dating, serial dating, ghosting, catcalling, soulmates, and how dating can mean something to one person and another to someone else. After researching all of this, it's clear to see why dating can get tiring and discouraging after a few failed attempts. But something we really want to point out is how much fun this experience can be. There's a certain thrill that comes with dating and it's important to keep that in mind. Meeting new people and gaining new perspectives through these interactions will ultimately help us understand who we are and what we want out of any relationship. The more we talked about this, the more we came to an ultimate conclusion on our opinion for dating. Date yourself first. Take yourself out, dress up, enjoy your own company. Pretty much, fall in love with yourself so you can become aware of what you deserve. Also, we weren't able to give y'all a 5 min wine down this week thanks to COVID-19. But we do talk about how JQ is going to be the Are We Adulting Yet guinea pig for dating. Since she's officially single, we are going to put her on a few dating sites and see what happens. And once all of this is over, we're going SPEED DATING! So stay tuned to hear how it all goes! We're super excited to share it with you. Oh hey! Changes we face after a divorce or breakup!
We're back! If you don't know by now, we're dedicating season 3 on big changes we most likely have to face as adults. As we get older it feels like things in our life tend to change drastically and most of the time we are not as prepared as we think we are. This week the big change we want to focus on is the adjustment after a break up or divorce. Because of the coronavirus, we're seeing a rise in divorce rates. It's difficult when a separation happens and your reality gets shaken up to the point where nothing feels normal anymore. Creating a new healthy norm for yourself is a crucial next step for growth but why is it so hard to get there? Why don't we realize the drastic changes going into a relationship, but after a breakup we see and feel it all?!Communication is said to be the main reason for a separation, but is it really just communication? Could it also be a lack of respect? Or a lack of understanding? There are so many reasons why a relationship could shatter but instead of looking at the negatives, we should start taking these things that happen to us and find ways to grow from them. Reflect on any divorce or breakup you've been through and see where you both went wrong, so you can recognize the habits you don't want to bring with you in the future. Life can get messy, but let's not let these situations make us resentful or bitter, let's use our experiences as an aid in becoming our true selves. And make sure to tune in after the show for our 5 min wine down to hear how the coronavirus is taking over our lives! We're super excited to share it with the fam!!Oh hey! Money Changes!
Welcome back fam! We want to use this season to talk about different major changes we have or possibly could face as we get older and more settled into adulthood. Right now the world is facing one of the biggest changes yet. The pandemic that Coronavirus has started is a lot to take in right now. And if that isn't crazy enough, it's also causing other major changes as well. The biggest change right now, and I guess a change we are always going to face, are money changes. What happens when our job security is no longer as secure as we thought? And why is it so important to secure your finances and have that "rainy day fund" all the grownups keep talking about? We also answer some questions our guests had for us regarding the future of unemployment and what we think is to come for our economy. It seems like everything is so up in the air right now and we're all worried about what's to come. But in these times of uncertainty, one should stay constant. Set yourself up for success no matter what situation you're in. And we know we didn't give you a 5 minute wine down this week, but we'll be back at it next week so stay tuned! Oh hey! CHANGE!
It is officially season 3 guys! And this season we want to focus on the most constant thing in this world. Change is always going to happen. And the older we get, we tend to become more and more uncomfortable with it. Why is change so scary for us? Why do we try to avoid it like the plague? When we should really be embracing it for what it is. Right now we are living through a time of extreme change. The coranavirus has come and completely flipped our lives upside down. And the fear of what's to come after it's done its job and disappears is even scarier. Change is inevitable. And it's important to learn the best way to deal with changes, especially these kind of changes, because the reality is that it's going to keep happening weather we like it or not. Now more than ever is a time to focus on that. Which is why we want to dedicate season 3 solely to changes us adults have to face, and ways we can accept them for what they are and still have control over our lives. We also touch base on how much the pandemic has been affecting us and the world. This is something we are also going to keep updating the fam with during this season. Remember guys, it has to get worse before it gets better. So lets all pour ourselves a glass of wine, press play on the show and social distance the right way. We're glad to be here with you all. And make sure to tune in after the show for our 5 min wine down to hear how the coronavirus is taking over our lives! We're super excited to share it with the fam!!Oh hey! Minimalism!
Welcome back fam!! We're back, and this week we're talking about minimalism. This concept that more and more people have been adapting to recently where one works to get rid of the things they don't need so the can live with less, and in return, become happier. We learned that this practice doesn't necessarily mean throwing out everything possible, but rather making room for more of what matters. But why is it so difficult for some people to part with their items? Holding onto memories plays a big part in this. We tend to hold value with a lot of our things whether we use them or not. But essentially what this is doing is blocking out space to make new memories. This minimalistic idea has also been proven to help with depression and other mental illnesses. It's true when you declutter your life, you also declutter your mind. And that is probably why so many of us our hopping onto this bandwagon. If you're someone who feels like maybe you have too many things for no reason (like we do), then this is the perfect time to grab some trash bags, pour some wine, and part with all of those things that no longer serve a purpose for you. And we're here to help you get through it. So tune in! And make sure to tune in after the show for our 5 min wine down to hear how the coronavirus is taking over our lives! And if you're new to the show, welcome! This week we're diving into a topic that we feel is something we've all had to deal with one way or another, especially with todays technology on such a rise. Hacking is something we don't really talk about. It's just kind of a thing that happens all of the time and we're all just forced to deal with it, cause how do you track a hacker?? We've both had our fair share of information being hacked into, ESPECIALLY JQ, and it's only going to continue. Hangin W/Negativity
Welcome back fam! Your two favorite girls are here again with another episode to help us all how to adult a little more...hopefully. This week we’re diving into our vibes. How hanging out with negativity can really take a toll on our lives and on our outlook on life. And as we grow up we can either get sucked in with that kind of crowd, or we just start to realize we don’t want to live like that. We get it, it’s impossible to be happy and positive all of the time, but practicing the art of being optimistic really can change your outlook and your mood overall. And surrounding yourself around those kind of vibes will help tremendously. Adulting can be hard, that’s why we want to create a feel good tribe to make it easier and more fun of course. Sorry we couldn’t give you a 5 minute wine down this week. But Dali has a music festival to go too so just make sure to tune in to next weeks episode so you can hear all about it!Oh hey! Boundaries!!
You're two favorite adults are back at it again with another episode And this week we're talking about boundaries. If you've heard any of our prior episodes, you'll know that we love to talk about this. So it was only right that we make it a task of the week. Whether you're in a relationship or single as a pringle, this is something you can always benefit from. Boundaries help us determine how we want people to treat us. And how we should treat others. And this is something that we learn how to do with time and through experiences. It can be explained, but nobody can really teach you what your boundaries are, you kind of have to teach yourself, right? One thing we know for sure is the boundaries we've set for ourselves and why they are so important. Join us as we try, once again, how to figure this shit out!And make sure to tune in after the show for our 5 min wine down to hear about all of the exciting things your two favorite girls have coming up! So make sure to relax, pour yourself a drank & tune in.Sex is something we all do right? So we might as well be open and talk about it. It feels like the older we get the more we realize how sacred and important that exchange of energy can be. And you start to understand a bit why most adults tell you to wait to lose your virginity. At least that’s how we feel. Don’t get us wrong, we love to do the good deed! And life is all about exploring new things. But what we’ve learned is to be mindful and confident of who you are as an individual. Because letting other people’s energy in can In turn mess with yours. Your body is a temple. We also want to share a few STD statistics with you guys because we want y’all to keep your temples clean too! But we don’t want to make this episode just about the statistics and the STD’s, so listen in for some juicy stories and opinions about the good good. Are we ready for marriage?!
We're back family! Thank you for joining us yet again on another episode of Are We Adulting Yet! And if you're new to the show, welcome to the show! Pour yourselves a nice big glass of wine and tune in.This week you're two favorite girls talk about the big M word....MARRIAGE! Are we ready for it? Do we believe in it? Why do we get divorced? What does marriage really mean? These are questions we find ourselves asking a lot, especially as we get older and start to create serious relationships for ourselves. But no matter what, the most important marriage you should have is the one with yourself. Which brings us to our adulting 101 tip of the week: to make sure you still keep some of your independence in any relationship you find yourself in. They say marriage is when two become one, but we disagree. Marriage should be two wholes coming together in partnership. Of course our opinions about this topic may be different from others, but talking about this really did help us grasp an understanding on what we want. And if you're single, in a relationship, engaged or married, we hope this helped you too. If it did, we hope you join us in the task of the week to improve our adulthood, and that is to take a step back to observe and think about what really goes into a marriage. Even if you're already married, it's a good reminder. Also, a big shout out to all of the couples and weddings Dali will be attending soon! We're so happy for all of you!Make sure to tune in after the show for our 5 min wine down to hear how our first official live show went! We're super excited to share it with the fam!!Oh hey! Can we afford to live in 2020?!
We're back!!! Welcome to season two guys! We are beyond excited to be back here again with the fam! If you're new to the show, welcome and thank you for joining us. We're starting off this new season with a very interesting episode that left us asking one necessary question. Can we afford to live in 2020?We quickly come to realize that it's pretty pricey to live. We decided to look up the cost of living in Florida (which is where we live), and try to compare it to other places. Some states were higher and some were lower, but one thing that was the same was the fact that the minimum wage was always a lot lower than the average cost of living. Which is crazy! That's why we want the first official task of the week for this new season is to really budget and learn what the cost of living is in your city or maybe a city you're interested in moving to. Analyze that and really try to figure out if you can afford to live in this day and time. We know it's not easy, trust us...WE KNOW! But maybe this knowledge will inspire us to invest in ourselves and in our future a bit more. Thanks again for joining your crazy sisters in trying to figure this shit out! New Year Same Shit!
Welcome back everyone!! It’s the last Thursday of 2019, which means we are at the LAST episode of the year!! Which also means we are at the end of season 1 of Are We Adulting Yet!! What a journey it has been. And yet, it still feels like we just started this yesterday. If you’re new to the show, thank you for joining us! We’re glad to have you as part of our adult family! And if you’re not new to this, then you know the drill. Welcome back!As the year comes to an end, we want to talk a little bit about what this past year has brought us and some resolutions and goals we are setting for ourselves in 2020.For example, DaliConPique makes it a point to not drink any alcohol for the month of January. A nice cleanse after the holidays is a goal she sets for herself every year. But what makes a goal different from a resolution? A resolution is defined as a firm decision to do or not do something. Whereas a goal is the object of a person’s ambition or effort. It always seems like the end of the year brings this “new year new me” mentality and we’re filled with resolutions we want to accomplish and then they just start to fizzle out. We decided to share some sticky situation statistics with you from Forbes.com about how many people actually follow through with their new years resolutions (it’s not cute). This year lets set goals for ourselves! Goals that’ll keep us motivated all year long! And that will help us to keep growing and evolving into happier, more successful adults. We share some of our goals for ourselves and for the show. How we want to keep growing and staying consistent with the things we want to achieve. Consistency is key! Can you tell we’re really into our self care too? Something else we’re trying to bring with us too. We’d love to hear some of your goals as well! So feel free to share them with us no matter what time of the year it is! TASK OF THE WEEK: Look at the past year, see what we want to take with us in the future, and figure out what we should leave in the past & in the trash!Oh, if you were interested in getting some dope ass nails and you’re in the Tampa Bay area, here is the instagram link to the nail lady we told you about!! She’s decently priced and amazing at what she does! @nailsbyrubyy_Cheers to season 1 fam!! See you all in season 2. Stay Tuned!! And let us know if you have any suggestions about what you’d like to hear next. Or if you feel like you’d be a good guest on the show. We’ll try to squeeze you into the closet with us. Oh hey! And don't forget to LIKE, COMMENT, and SUBSCRIBE to join our Adult Family!Follow us on Instagram and Twitter @areweadultingyetpodcast and use the hashtag #TASKAWAY to let us know what you think. Adult Christmas List!
Hey everyone!! It’s finally Thursday! Which means JQ & DaliConPique are back at it again with another great episode of Are We Adulting Yet!! If you’re a returning listener, you know the routine, make yourselves right at home, we’re happy to have you back. If you’re new to the show, thanks for listening, feel free to pour yourselves a glass of wine and join the adult family we’ve created here. Are you guys ready for Christmas? With the holidays approaching, we wanted to talk this week about the different things we want others to give us as adults. Of course there are always some materialistic things we wouldn’t mind receiving. Presents are always great no matter what age. And we definitely voice our materialisric wants. For example, we’ll always be good with wine! But let’s be real, as we get older we do start to view the holidays in a different way. It starts to become more about the memories you create and the traditions pass along and less about the gifts you get and give. And when you think about it, it kind of has been more about the memories all along. Looking back, we remember the feeling of the holidays more than anything else. Getting older can be great simply because of the different things you come to realize and be grateful for. Another thing we come to realize as adults is that we need to start making the hard decisions in life, nobody can make them for us. DaliConPique is currently realizing that judging by her sticky situation. She has a big decision to make and no one can make it for her but herself. Even though all she wants is for Santa to tell her what to do!We want to give you guys a good christmas tip too to help you guys be great! Our adulting 101 this episode is a little tip for us too to be honest. We attempt to try and explain the perfect way to wrap the perfect present. Not going to lie, it was hard trying to explain that! So we’re going to leave this link here to the video if you rather watch it get done. We won’t be offended, don’t worry. https://www.businessinsider.com.au/best-way-to-wrap-a-present-2014-12As we wrap everything up, we also want to remind everyone to give back and remember that not everyone has the means to celebrate the way others can. This is a time for giving, so stop being childish & give back to some strangers too. You never know what others are going through. Be kind to everyone. If you’re new to this, we like to assign the fam with a task of the week. Something we can focus on for the following week and try to achieve. Something that will help us all adult just a little bit better. So here it is…Task of the week: Think back on the holidays you’ve celebrated in the past and what made them so special. Hospitality Ever After!
Hey familia!!! Guess who's back?!?!?! That's right, JQ & DaliConPique are back at it once again to give you another dope ass episode to make us ask the ultimate question...are we adulting yet?! If you're a returning listener, thanks for coming back and hearing all of our crazy talk. If your'e new to the show, WELCOME! We hope you like it here. If you do, feel free to join the adult family we've created. Everyone is welcome. Even if you don't feel like much of an adult most of the time don't worry, we don't either. This week we came together to chat about how our Thanksgivings went. While Dali had her first thanksgiving off in over 2 years, JQ had to work and help people enjoy the holiday. Which brought us into our topic of discussion. Because we work as servers, we know all of the ups and downs that come with hospitality. From meeting and engaging with amazing people from all over to having to working holidays and sometimes being so overwhelmed that you need to go to the bathroom for two minutes just to cry, these jobs are not for the weak. There is a lot that service industry workers have to deal with and we felt like it would be cool to shed some light on it all. Since we ourselves are servers, we bring you some of our personal experiences too. And tips on how to tip properly. Because trust us, THAT'S IMPORTANT in adulthood!!! Task of the week: Take care of the people taking care of you! Leave them a little extra & show a little more love. Be kind. Thanks for tuning in guys!! BTW, did you hear Jillie the family dog in the background? She wanted to remind you guys to always tip as well. Oh hey! Different Adulting!
Welcome back our fellow adults!! If you're new to our show, thank you for joining us. And if you're not, thank you for coming back! This week we decided to dive right into our sticky situation. We discuss the drama that two celebrity adults are currently going through. This quickly makes us realize how grateful we are for never being put in any problems like theirs. But it also makes us aware of how different everyones life and problems really are. And especially how different OUR lives are compared to each others. So we thought it would be cool to talk about how much we differ as adults. JQ's adulting is completely opposite from Dali"s adulting. We have very different lifestyles, and that's the beauty of our friendship. And becoming humble about the fact that all of us grown ups have completely distinct lives and we all go down different paths is essential for every successful adult. We're all trying to grow up successfully, whether it's by going to college full-time or working 3 jobs to earn enough money. So let's make the task of the week a real chore and work hard to take advantage of all of the hours in our day so we can become the happy, fruitful adults we all wish to become. No matter what kind of adult that is. Thank you again for tuning in!Oh hey! Letters to our Ex part 2!
We’re back!!! It’s part two of our letters to our exes and if you’ve made it this far, thank you for tuning in to all of our crazy stories we want to share with you! Especially these stories. We sat down with our wine and really explained all of the things these people put us through and we came to realize one very important thing. It's easy to look back and be upset about how these men treated us, but it takes a lot of growing up and maturing to realize that what we really should be doing is saying thank you to them. Thank you for all of the lessons you've taught us and showing us what a relationship should and shouldn't look like. And thank you for allowing us into your lives even though we may have been the problem sometimes too. Did DaliConPique and JQ really grow up and do the adult thing? Did they really forgive and forget. Maybe they've forgave but they definitely didn't forget!! We really enjoyed recording this episode for you guys and we really hope you did too! If you want to join in on all of this fun, feel free to email us so we can have you on the show! Oh hey! Letters to our Ex part 1.
Hey guys! Welcome back to another episode of Are We Adulting Yet! And if you're new to the show, welcome to the family! So we got a lot of positive feedback from our toxic relationship episode that we released a while back. And because of that, we wanted to come back and bring you all something similar but with a twist. So this week we're bringing you our in depth stories from our past relationships. And we discuss the lessons they've taught us. And we want to verbally say thank you to all of those exes that molded us into the women we are today. So if you haven't figured it out yet, our task of the week is to sit down and write a letter to all of your exes. Get everything you want to say to them out and then just throw that shit away. Or maybe grab a close friend and a glass of wine and let all of the shit out. That's what we did and let me tell you, it took WAY longer than 30 minutes. That's why this week is just part 1 of a two part episode. So you can only imagine how juicy it gets! So join in and let us know what you think. Or if you have something you want to chit chat over a glass of wine with, feel free to hit us up so we can have you on the show! Thanks again for tuning in, friends! Oh hey! Vision Boards!
Welcome back familia to another episode of Are We Adulting Yet!! This week the girls come together and catch up a little bit about how our week of adulthood went. We explain what happened on halloween and our perspective on the idea of dressing up and being someone you’re not. And then we go right into what’s really important. On this episode, we decided to discuss the benefits of creating a vision board. I know, this kind of sounds lame. But let’s be real, as we get older, it’s very easy to lose focus on our goals and dreams. And making a vision board is definitely a good way to get back in touch with all of that. We get caught up in this idea that we have to have it all, but we don’t realize the obstacles it takes to get there. We felt that the best way to do that was to sit back and really think about what it is that we want for ourselves. So we want the task of the week to be to relax and envision all of the things you want for yourself. Manifest all of that into your life, and come to terms with the fact that in order to get to where you want to be, it’s important to embrace the journey to getting there. Because you deserve it! We all do!And in case you heard, we apologize for the way the sound is in this episode. We're still learning so please be patient with us. Or shit, hit us up and teach us a thing or two.Oh hey! Welcome back our fellow grown ups to another fabulous episode of Are We Adulting Yet! Have any of you guys ever been in a relationship that was just straight up unhealthy for your wellbeing?? Or maybe you've come to realize that you may have been the harmful one?? It kind of feels like the older we get, the more we begin to understand the toxic relationships we've gotten ourselves involved in. JQ and Dali Con Pique have most definitely been in their fair share of toxic situations and they want to go in with you all about a few of their experiences. Along with that, the chicas also share a few tips and warning signs to look out for, just in case you find yourself in any type of unstable situation. We're only getting older, let's not bring these childish attitudes on our journey of growth y'all. Therefore, the task of the week is to try become more aware of what triggers you when it comes to the relationships you have with others. And to SET BOUNDARIES for yourself! Boundaries are your friend!! Put yourself first fam!! We love you!! Oh hey! I'm not crazy, you're crazy!
Welcome back beautiful family to another episode of Are We Adulting Yet! And Happy Halloween!! This week your favorite Puerto Ricans come together to talk about something that should be on everybody's mind. Mental health. And the stigmas that come with seeming "crazy". We know that, unfortunately, many people try to deny or keep their mental issues a secret because they don't want people to view them a certain way. But just like you exercise your muscles to stay strong, we all need to exercise our brain muscle as well. We want to normalize these issues and make it ok to seek help. In order to establish a safe place for this, we also have to be reminded to be patient and understanding with others. We want our adult family to come together and break all of these stereotypes that come with mental health and make it ok to not be ok sometimes. Therefore, we are going to make the task of the week something simple and easy to remember so we can remember it anytime. Let's be kind and take care of our minds! And if you feel like things are getting too much to handle, don't be scared to get help! Here is the national suicide prevention hotline for anyone that needs it. Call 1-800-273-8255. We love you!Dali Con Pique also shares a sticky situation with you that she's been holding in especially for this episode. Let us know what you think about it and if she was messed up for what she did! lol. Oh hey! Our Culture
Welcome back family to another episode of Are We Adulting Yet! Sit back and grab yourself some café con leche because this week JQ and Dali Con Pique want to tell you a little more about who we are and where we come from. Culture is something we've always held dear to our hearts. From being little kids in a folklórico dance group and going to festivals, to visiting the island and finally understanding why our people wave their flag wherever they go; being Puerto Rican is a whole vibe and we LOVE it! We truly believe that growing up and learning about where you came from is extremely beneficial for the journey of self discovery. With that being said, we want you all to go back in time for the task of the week and try to learn about where you came from. We'd LOVE to hear about it! Comment where you're from or your flag down below to rep where you're from proudly!Oh hey! Opinionated or Judgmental?!
We're back at it again! Another week trying to figure out if we are adulting yet. This week your favorite duo comes together to discuss the similarities and differences between being judgmental and opinionated. By now, it's pretty obvious that Dali Con Pique & JQ are strongly opinionated. And we want our tribe to be the same way! Creating ideas and having a mind of your own is extremely beneficial in the adult world. And we are all entitled to our own opinions, but when do our point of views cross a line and become harsh judgments towards others? And why do we feel the need to judge people in the first place? Living in this day and age, it's just as easy to critique what everyone else is doing as it is to get offended by what others are saying about you. We want the task if the week to be something we can master and take with us wherever our life leads. Lets focus on becoming more aware when our opinions are starting to be a little more on the judgy side. We're all trying to figure this life out. Lets be patient with our fellow adults. Also, what do you think of JQ's new alter ego name?! Yay or Nay? Let us know! Oh hey! Pussy Power!
This week, we chit chat about the importance us women hold. We want to unleash all of that raw feminine energy and strength us chicas possess. So we are starting off with this episode, hopefully the first of many, to talk about what "pussy power" means to us. With social media being at an all time high, women have had even more of a platform to speak about their views on the topic and situations within their lives. This has been major because we now, more than ever, have a way to support each other! Having a cooch doesn't make you anything less, if anything it makes you more! We hold a lot of power within us and we're living in a day and age where all of that is finally being embraced, so it's time we hop on the bandwagon and encourage you all to start welcoming your capabilities as well! Yup, the task of the week is to dig deep and discover that fresh femininity that makes you the queen you are. And if you're not a woman, we encourage you to think of the ladies in your life and take a moment to tell them how much you appreciate them. Trust us, they'll love it! Women can legit be superhero's! Embrace the cooch and respect the cooch!Follow us on Instagram and Twitter @areweadultingyetpodcast and use the hashtag #TASKAWAY to let us know what you think. In competition with who?!
Do you guys ever feel like growing up is a race and we're all competing to get to this ultimate level of adulthood that doesn't even exist?! Whether we're in an office or playing a sport, competition is always a natural instinct we learn at an early age, and it can be a hard habit to fall out of when it starts interfering with your everyday life. This week Dali Con Pique and JQ bring their opinions to the table on why we all feel like we need to compare our lives to one another, and ways we can turn all of that around and put all of that energy into ourselves instead. Life can be a competition, but it doesn't have to be a race against other people. So tune in and join us while we attempt to change the act of competing with yourself into the most significant task yet! Oh and btw, we apologize for the minor technical difficulties you hear during this episode. We're still trying to figure this shit out. DM us if you have any helpful tips. Put some RESPEK on my name!
On this weeks episode your favorite BFF's meet up and talk about being grateful and having respect for others in all aspects of life. Join us as we try to conquer a task that is important and beneficial to all of us "adults". How do we gain respect? How do we keep respect? How do we recognize and eliminate the people who have no regard to our lives? JQ and Dali Con Pique share some of their stories and experiences so you can see what R.E.S.P.E.C.T means to them (R.I.P Aretha). Hopefully they can lend you some knowledge to help you understand and learn your limitations when it comes to appreciation and consideration for yourself and others around you.Follow us on Instagram and Twitter @areweadultingyetpodcast and use the hashtag #TASKAWAY to let us know what you think. Adulting VS. Us
This weeks episode is about what adulting means to us and how we were completely wrong as kids! We talk about how our lives as adults changed as we grew. We give examples from our own lives to express how nobody really knows what adulting means, including us. We may think we know the meaning but life throws us curveballs and teaches us something different everyday. Adult wisely guys!
