Is it possible to eat the most nutritious food in the world and still not be healthy? It’s not just food itself, it’s the state of our bodies. If our bodies aren’t able to receive, food is no longer medicine and we aren’t able to heal. Listen to today’s episode with Kerry Umphrey to see what you can do to make sure your body is in the proper state to fully receive nutrients. Your body and mind have the power to heal, all you have to do is give it what it requires. With her degree in Psychology and Developmental Training, Kerry Umphrey has been working with people for over 30 years beginning with children and teens in Play Therapy and later Business & Life Coaching for Women of all ages - all the while battling severe health challenges for which Traditional Medicine offered little help. Currently, as an Independent Health Care Practitioner, she is a Motivational Wellness Speaker, Life Coach, and National Board Certified Health & Wellness Coach with specialized functional medicine training.  She specializes in Digestive Wellness, Motherhood Wellness, and Childhood Wellness. A few years ago, she went from 95lbs and bedridden to rock climbing with her son. Kerry hopes that everyone remembers that whether you are coping with change or choosing to make a change, you are brave for continuing to try. 17. Food Is Medicine-Creating More Ease In The Kitchen With Susie Miles

Before you dive into this episode, I just want to warn you, that you may become hungry while listening to this episode with our guest, Susie Miles. Since food is medicine, I asked Susie to come on the show to give us ideas and pointers for navigating the kitchen. We have so much stress in our lives, adding one more thing, like cooking to our to-do list can increase our stress levels and that is the last thing we need because stress is what helped us get sick in the first place. The intention of this episode is to alleviate this stress and give you ideas to make your experience in the kitchen less overwhelming and so delicious! If you are new at cooking, we highly recommend starting with simple meals until you get the hang of it. Susie Miles lives in Northern Virginia with her husband & two children. She is the host of the 'Cooking and Convos’ podcast. Susie has also written a children’s book (published in 2021) ‘My Friend, the Light’. The book is available online at Amazon, Walmart, and Barnes and Noble. She’s in the process of writing her 2nd book in the ‘My Friend’ series. Susie has been so gracious to offer her kitchen tool list and her recipe for turkey sausage pasta with peppers & onions to us. **Note: If you are on an anti-inflammatory diet or meatless diet, you will need to find alternatives for certain ingredients in Susie’s recipe. For example, use gluten-free pasta or spaghetti squash as an alternative to regular pasta. When it comes to eating for enjoyment and to nourish your body, it is all about getting creative and finding alternative ingredients that support your mind, body, & soul. 14. Unscripted Inspired Action

Do you feel like life is a constant struggle for you? Do you find yourself putting yourself last? Do you push through your pain and fatigue? Or do you get creative and find ways to give yourself what you need & also take care of your responsibilities and stay true to your promises? For this week‘s episode, this is exactly what I had to do. I had to get creative and allow myself the grace to show up as my authentic self in the moment. I’m on a healing journey just like all of you. I want to be an example for you all, to show you what it means to fully take care of yourself & to love yourself so that you can heal. In this episode, I get honest with you & model for you the real process that is needed when it comes to healing. We all tend to make things harder than what it has to be. This habit of ours leads to unnecessary stress that can lead to chronic illness. How about we break this bad habit that has gotten us sick in the first place and do the opposite? Let’s make things as easy as possible by allowing things to be as they should (this means surrendering, trusting & believing in yourself & that you will always be taken care of, & receiving flow & ease into your life) & allow your inner guidance to lead you. Your inner guidance will never steer you in the wrong direction even if it doesn't seem like it at the moment. There will be many times during the healing process when you need to listen to your body and slow down. It’s important to do this. This is what I needed to do this week. This whole healing journey is about learning who you are & what you need, so you can properly support yourself to get back to homeostasis where the healing happens. It’s about filling up your cup so you can fully show up in this world as your best self where everyone receives the best parts of you. There will always be responsibilities for you to take care of. It's about prioritizing your health as your first responsibility. When you attend to your first responsibility of getting better, all your other responsibilities fall into place much more easily. 11. Feeling Empowered in Your Body With Dr. Sara Vogel

Learning to feel safe in your body through sexuality, trauma, & motherhood. In today’s episode, I have a deep and vulnerable conversation with Dr. Sara Vogel. I’d like to warn you in advance, the topics we talk about and some of the language in this episode may not be suitable for children. These topics may be hard to listen to because they often are not discussed every day, because we like to hide them away in the darkest corners of our minds, because they make us feel shameful. But the opposite is what should actually be done, due to the fact that we experience them every day and holding onto the feelings that accompany these experiences are negatively affecting our mental and physical health. Studies and data show trauma can trigger autoimmune diseases. Fully coming into ourselves, embodying and loving who we are, including our sexuality is an area we must address if we are to heal completely and become vibrant. Dr. Sara Vogel is a dynamic, trauma-informed educator, who is focused on creating a world where women understand their potential, value, power, and worth. She spent the past five years working with survivors of sexual harassment, sexual violence, relationship violence, and stalking.  Dr. Vogel is now democratizing her education and research, by bringing her teaching outside of the university walls and into the world. She is the host of Ladybits and Leadership, a fun, sassy, and female-powered podcast that focuses on helping women unlearn shame and find power in their bodies, sexuality, sensuality, and motherhood. She also coaches clients one-on-one to help them have and build lives filled with power, pleasure, and joy, and loves hosting educational presentations on finding joy, the importance of the female orgasm, and women finding their value, worth, and power. 9. How to Heal Through Peace, Spirituality, & Self-Love With Christina Vine

Is your ego addicted to choosing suffering over joy? Could this be one of the things blocking you from true healing? Listen to this episode with guest, Christina Vine to see if this is true for you and how you can start to overcome this blockage. We discuss Christina’s healing journey that led to her spiritual awakening. Her deep, trusting spiritual connection has created a sense of peace, trust, and safety within her body. She has learned to surrender her fears and irrational stories, created by her ego, to her higher power so she can come back into alignment with herself. Feeling safe and at peace is required for healing. It shifts your autonomic nervous system from the sympathetic state, the fight or flight/survival mode to the parasympathetic/rest and digest state where your body can repair itself. In the rest and digest state, Your body can fully relax and focus its energy away from looking for danger and preparing yourself to fight off an attacker, to focusing your energy on healing. There may be some spiritual topics we discuss in this episode that may challenge your beliefs and trigger some people. Christina and I ask you to keep an open mind and take what resonates with you and leave what doesn’t. Make sure you subscribe to this podcast so you never miss an episode. 6. The Body Heals Itself When You Give It What It Needs With Jessica Carter

You have the power to make a difference in your health. It’s about not giving up on yourself and finding ways to support your body in healing itself. In this episode, Jessica Carter shares her own autoimmune journey with us. She and I have a conversation about how she never gave up on herself by constantly searching for what her body needed in order for her body to start healing. This included becoming a scientist of her own body. Jessica is an army veteran. She and her husband have been to all 50 states and 50 counties. She’s in the top 1% at her company, dōTERRA. She taught elementary music for 13 years. She now teaches about the life-changing benefits of essential oils, mindfulness, and yoga. She is a 500-hr yoga teacher. She published 2 Amazon number one best-selling books on her trademarked system ōmmYōga® which combine essential oils, meditation, mantras, and yoga to work through difficult emotions so they aren’t stored in the body. She’s a mindfulness and personal development coach. Her passion is guiding women to better health, to their strengths, and how to find the steps into their calling. 5. How Your Sexuality Can Assist Your Healing with Krista Biglin

If you want to explore a different side of healing, tap into your sexual, pleasurable side. In the spirit of Valentine's Day, I invited Krista Biglin on the show to explore sex, sexuality, human connection, trauma, and healing with us. Krista Biglin is a Registered Nurse, a certified Sex, Love, and Relationship Coach, a mother, a wife, and a lover of all dogs. She is the host of Searching for Self Podcast. Krista began her own journey to find herself after feeling lost, unfulfilled, and unhappy with her own life. She now encourages women to go within to seek answers, to be still and listen, to love themselves, live authentically, and learn to listen to their inner voice. You may be wondering how these topics pertain to autoimmune healing. But you see, we are complex creatures, and every part of our lives, every part that makes us human, affects our health. These topics can be triggering or uncomfortable because society has deemed them shameful, especially for women. When we feel shame and unsafe to fully express ourselves, including our sexuality, we start to abandon ourselves. Each time we abandon ourselves, a piece of us dies. Each time we deny ourselves pleasure, we suffer. This creates dis-ease within the body. When it comes to healing, we have to heal and love every piece of ourselves. Listen to find out more! Make sure you subscribe to this podcast so you never miss an episode. Don’t forget to leave a rating and review for the show!
