About Regret the Hour
Regret the Hour is an all-original alternative rock band from Nyack, NY, formed by brothers Nate and Ben McCarthy, who began writing songs together in grade school. Eventually joined by drummer Anders Fleming and bassist Jesse Yanko, the band broke into the NYC music scene early in their career, where they frequented venues like Arlene’s Grocery, the Bowery Electric, and Sullivan Hall, and shared the stage with acts such as The Vanguard, and Dave Mason. The band’s first, full-length album, entitled 'Disappearances', was released in May of 2011; essentially a collection of various demos recorded throughout the previous year. Despite its mediocre quality, the album earned surprising critical acclaim. “Singer Nate McCarthy’s unique vocals act as the perfect glue that hold together all the whimsical melodic phrasing and brilliant guitar harmonies,” Surface Noise reviewer Matt Degroat writes. “With chiming, churning melodies reminiscent of U2, the brainy edginess of Radiohead, and the infectious hummability of Kings of Leon, the band’s music is smart yet accessible.” Over the next year, Regret the Hour released two EPS (2011’s 'Another Lonely Year', and 2012’s 'The Living Remember'). In the summer of 2012, they began work on their first real studio effort at The Factory in Nyack, with producer/engineer Marek Stycos. The tracking for the band’s much-anticipated debut record (entitled 'Better Days') was finished in September of 2012. Just two months later, during the final stages of the mixing process, bass player Jesse Yanko died after a long, and hard-fought battle with cancer. The album is expected to be released in the spring of 2013.
